Steven Gerrard
Is this arrogant?
"It's a really positive signing. Let's hope he is the next Steven Gerrard,"
Steven Gerrard on the signing of Jordan Henderson.
He appears to be talking in 3rd person.
And suggesting that he is brilliant. (Which he is... don't get me wrong...)
"Good football clubs replace their best players. Liverpool need a new Gerrard and need a new Jamie Carragher."
Hmm.

I saw that and thought the same thing. I think it's possible that he wasn't the one speaking and it was his agent or representative or something, or that he's just thick.

Possibly but I hear there are one or two on the moon that can play.

Re: Steven Gerrard
I can't believe Gerrard said that, he's never came across as big headed before. If he did say it maybe it was a bit tongue in cheek. Maybe it was Rooney doing an impression of Gerrard.Electric Demon wrote:Is this arrogant?

Re: Steven Gerrard
We are missing one important factor here: The initial question posed to Gerrard.
Could it not be that the interviewer asked something like "what do you make of the Henderson signing Stevie? Could he be the next Gerrard?"
To which Gerrard replies "It's a really positive signing. Let's hope he IS the next Steven Gerrard"

That's exactly what happened.

Re: Steven Gerrard
I find him quite overrated as well. Too many 'Hollywood' passes and more often than not they don't come off. Can see why people like him though, he has that passionate attitude and grabs a fair few goals.

Re: Steven Gerrard
He has not being playing to his best for a while now. He will get a good rest over the summer and he has had a groin op so imo he will be like a new player for Liverpool next season.

Re: Steven Gerrard
Maybe some things he tries don't come off but he has to be one of the most passionate motivational players in the Premiership over the past 5-10 years and unlike some players he cares about the club he plays for.Churchill wrote:I find him quite overrated as well. If you think he is overrated who would you prefer playing central midfield.

Re: Steven Gerrard
The problem with Gerrard is that for the past decade he has had to more or less carry the team alone hence his occasional slumps in form.
To say he is overrated is slightly harsh given the number of games in which he has taken the bull by the horns. The 05 Champions League Final and The 06 F.A Cup Final spring to mind although these examples were 5+ years ago.
I doubt we will see the same Gerrard of a few years ago due to him now being the wrong side of 30 but he can still be a big influence for the club.

Re: Steven Gerrard
He might have been referring to the fact he has stayed loyal to Liverpool and not moved on - and hoping that Henderson does the same.
I can't really call it arrogance, it isn't like he said he was better than Zidane, Pele and Maradona all rolled into one.
He is pretty handy too...

Re: Steven Gerrard
any of you liverpool fans worried about becoming a long ball team next season? your still missing a ball player like alonso in the middle and now being linked with adam another player like gerrard who will look to get it up to carrol. one problem with signing alot of british talent is they just arent technically as good as some of the foreigners. other thna suarez i think your missing really technically good players

Re: Steven Gerrard
I don't think Liverpool will play long ball football, and I think it's a disservice to Gerrard to say he just wants to get it up to Carroll.
I always make the distinction between long ball and long pass. Gerrard has a very accurate pass over long distances and while I think Liverpool may play direct and fast paced football, I don't think we'll see them lump it up the pitch.

Re: Steven Gerrard
