SURREY HAVE NAMED A SQUAD OF 15 FOR THE LONDON DERBY TRIP TO LORD’S TO FACE MIDDLESEX IN OUR OPENING FIXTURE IN THIS YEAR’S VITALITY BLAST.
England internationals Sam Curran, Tom Curran & Jason Roy are all named in a Surrey squad for the first time this season  Very Happy after serving their periods of isolation following an early return from the IPL.
Gareth Batty is expected to captain the side while pathway graduate Ben Geddes would make his senior debut for the Club should he be selected.
Rory Burns & Ollie Pope are unavailable as they prepare for the second Test with New Zealand, starting at Edgbaston on Thursday. Ben Foakes continues his recovery from the hamstring injury that ruled him out of that series. Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad
Jade Dernbach  Headscratch and Liam Plunkett are both continuing on their back to bowling programmes while Reece Topley is out for up to six weeks due to a side strain.
There is no place in the squad for Gus Atkinson, Conor McKerr, Mark Stoneman or Amir Virdi
FULL SQUAD:
Gareth Batty (c)
Hashim Amla
Jordan Clark
Rikki Clarke
Sam Curran
Tom Curran
Matt Dunn
Laurie Evans
Ben Geddes
Will Jacks
Daniel Moriarty
Jamie Overton
Ryan Patel
Jason Roy
Jamie Smith
Don't understand the Dernbach situation he was fine on Monday to bowl four overs and end up as our best bowler Headscratch
Dunn, Geddes, Patel and maybe Clarke to carry the drinks.
Fingers crossed Amla doesn't slow down the run rate   SURREY VS MIDDLESEX / SOMERSET/ GLAMORGAN/ SUSSEX/ HAMPSHIRE T20 VITALITY BLAST 1f443
Over to you chaps  thumbsup

Cheers, JimBob.

I reckon you're spot on with the four to miss out.

Please, please, please can we start this campaign with a win instead of having to play catch up later on as we've often had to do in recent times.

Btw, heard that Atkinson - who did well in some t20 games last season - has a back injury and is probably out for the season. That would explain why he hasn't been playing for a while although the Club have said zilch.

Squad injury update
someone at the club must have read your message Guildford Wink
Nico Reifer is unavailable due to hand injury sustained recently while playing Second XI cricket earlier this month.
James Taylor is unavailable due to a side strain sustained while playing Second XI cricket in May and, latterly, a viral illness.
Nick Kimber is continuing to recover from a recent viral illness.
Gus Atkinson is continuing to recover from a recent knee injury and, latterly, a viral illness

Dunn has produced some good performances for the seconds in t20s this season and so I can understand the desire to get him in the team. However, I didn't see it as very likely and certainly not for a batsman.

I understand Amla is fit and his absence is nothing to do with injury. It's a bold decision for sure. However, I can understand him being left out. Although still a classy batsman, he's not a big hitter, is slow between the wickets and poor in the field. If he was going to be axed though, I would have expected Geddes or Patel to come in.

Dunn must be something like a specialist fielder in this side. Would have rathered Clarke or Amla instead, seems more likely they'd prove useful.

My Amla theory still stands that he is a liability on mega roads - which is what this looks like so far. Obviously not as plugged into Surrey as all on here, but I like leaving him out!

Blake Cullen adding a few points to Jason Roy's match rating, as he can't have been as bad as Cullen ended up! Tough night for the debutant.

Reminds me (albeit not as bad) as when we played a t20 and one of our U15s had figures of 0-0-2-0 - and couldn’t bowl anymore, two waist high full tosses and whipped out the attack!

A good win obviously last night but I'm still not convinced the balance was right. I would bring in Geddes for Dunn.

Somerset will be a tougher outfit than Middlesex for sure.

The batting lineup, whilst we may think it is one bat short, isn't half powerful when they come off! Total destruction tonight

Yep, no arguments there, Olly.

On fire tonight. Totally comprehensive win.

So good to have 2 wins out of 2. Normally at this stage we're playing catch up!

Batty not bowling his full 4 overs always baffles me - he’s one of our best t20 bowlers, him and Moriarty bowling 8 overs is our main bowling weapon. Bowl your full allotment Gareth!!

Olly - good memory there!

Can't remember what I've organised for myself on Friday night, can remember the favourite county cricketers of posters on an internet forum from years ago. The brain works in weird ways Smile

For sure. Much to her disgust, I can still tell Mrs Bat the England and Rest of the World sides from the series here in 1970 but not where I put the car keys half an hour ago. Can normally just about remember where the car is though! Wink

Another good win, slow bowling really is our strength, we need to recognise that! Outrageous knock from Roy, good from Evans, and well marshaled by Smith at the end

Very much as Goochie says. From early on in our innings, it always seemed that Glamorgan needed to take at least one more wicket and bowl a dry over to get back in it. Fairly comfortable in the end.

I agree with Goochie and Olly that slow bowling is the way for us to go (usually at least anyway) and that Batty should have bowled his full allocation. I do feel he mixes up the bowling a bit too much. Whilst keeping the batsmen wondering is understandable, there's also benefit in letting a bowler keep his rhythm and hopefully exploit things when he's on top.

Just to add - Smith kept well, nothing flashy but consistently reliable. Also, for such a big guy, Overton is surprisingly nimble and pulled off some fine boundary stops.

Ollie Pope will not be available to play cricket until the 24th of June having had contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19. He will now have to self-isolate until that time. picard

Did you get along last night, JimBob?

Only 5 overs but still some good entertainment. The Mills over consisted of a dropped catch, 3 sixes and 2 fours all struck by Jacks together with a couple of wides.

However, even topping that, was the catch and celebration of 16 year old Archie Lenham (great name) to dismiss Roy. Superb take running backwards at speed. I don't think it's on the Surrey site but it is on the Sussex site and rightly bigged up there. I can't attach from here but well worth a look.

Was there Guildford that catch was right in front of me I was willing for him to drop it Laugh
Such a shame these last two games have been ruined, and now sadly we lose the England trio Sad

Yeah, but 8 points out of 10 is much better than where we usually are. Also, maybe a chance to see your boy Geddes. Wink
