So Edinburgh have sold their stadium naming rights to DAM Health, whoever they are.
That's a terrible name for a health company never mind a stadium!

So mosh has shaved his mullet and Kinghorn is now a fly half. Lots has been happening behind the scenes with Edinburgh over the summer!

It does seem like Kinghorn is being seriously considered at 10 now. VDW is on the bench. I'm not convinced!

Edinburgh all at see for the first 20 mins then an a quick tap from his own line by Vellacott has galvanised them. He is really quick!
Good pressure leads to a try from Kinghorn under the posts. This is shaping up to be a good game as well!

Scarlets under the cosh now and Edinburgh score again, Vellacott the architect again. He looks like he will be a very good signing and will be interesting Toonie as well.

Vellacott and ADHD Kid look like they were separated at birth. Both must have papered their living rooms with asbo's. I like watching them.
Interesting choice of PA music after that try.....Gaiety Parissien!!

I always liked Vellacott as a player and had hoped he might come to Glasgow a few years back. His time at Wasps was disappointing for him and he slipped from view but it is worth remembering that he lost a whole season to an ACL injury, which he picked up before he had played a game for them.
On today's showing so far he has lost none of his pace and looks like a hungry young man looking to make up for lost time!

Poor game maangement from Edinburgh in the last 6 mins, when they had the opportunity to pin them down in the corner, but you have to say it was a good win against a very good Scarlets side. If Edinburgh are going to play like that, it can only be good for Scottish rugby!

An enjoyable game to watch. Blair has clearly taken the shackles off and in Ben Vellacott we have a proper 9 who plays what's in front of him. Wonderful to see Graham finally coming off his wing to get involved as well. The line on the second try taking the ball off Ritchie is exactly how Graham should be used.
Still, we shipped some poor scores today and the scrum was lacklustre. Crosbie didn't have a great game and again I want more from Gilchrist.
Happy with a BP win though. Very handy Scarlets side.

Well I've just had the misfortune of having to watch that on URC TV, another subscription to pay for but if that's the quality of the streams I'll be asking for a refund! The functionally of the stream was abysmal and it buffered every 30s. I gave up later in the 2nd half after it kept crashing.
Anyway, really important win for Edinburgh and a sign of things to come in terms of playing style under Blair. Vellacot was electric and I really hope the players learn to read him as if he'd had proper support some of these breaks would have led to tries.
We were certainly very loose in the first half which is no surprise with Blair at 10 and Graham and Vellacot on the pitch. Kinghorn is fine at 10 if that's how you want to play but I can see us getting torn apart by other teams if we carry on like that.
Also worth saying Kinghorn's tackling technique is dreadful - he literally stands upright when tackling! Teams will notice that and will put some big carriers down his channel, and he'll come off 2nd best.
Was great to see Darcy back to his best - hopefully he can get a run of games and put himself back in Scotland contention.
Final word on the new stadium - was great to hear some actual atmosphere at an Edinburgh game!

Two very good results in different ways.
Delighted for Edinburgh to get the win and to get it in style.
Taking two points from the Kingspan is not something that many teams will do this season and given the number of debutants I am secretly very pleased with that as a first hit out for Glasgow.

Just caught up with the Edinburgh game, very pleased with that we had ample opportunities to throw that game away in the last 10 minutes and managed to hold them out. How nice to see us playing actual attacking rugby at our new home. Plenty to work on, someone needs to sit Bill Mata down and remind him how to enter a ruck legally, but that is an excellent start. Well done boys!

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
It is great to see how many SQ players are getting regular gametime in the English Premiership. I think for most games, there is at least 1 or 2 in the 23. Off the top of my head this weekend included:
Glos: Davidson, Hastings
Wuss: Owlett
Newcastle: Graham
Wasps: Hislop
Quins: Steele, H Jones
Leicester: Scott
LI: Rowe, Dell
Exeter: Hidalgo-Clyne
Bath: Rae
The great thing on that list is to see how many there are whilst missing a bunch who will be in the Scotland squads moving forward like J Gray, Hogg, Sutherland, DVDM and Skinner.

Vellacott having a big impact again, another lightning try from the sniping at the base of the ruck. Some seriously sloppy play from both teams in parts though so far

Rory Lawson has just commented that the Benetton hooker was determined to score "despite three men firing their meat into him"
A Colemanballs moment of the highest order.
I can't wait to hear what he says when the Luvvies meet the Michelles and Kok gets involved..

A very Edinburgh finish, as we shoot ourselves in the foot repeatedly until Benetton get in position for a superb DG by their young replacement fly half. Fair play to them, what a finish that was. Work still to do in Edinburgh, that game should’ve been wrapped up

Drop goal in the last second, what a choker.
Still, it was a cracking match and Benetton must be one of the most improved sides in the league.
If Glasgow win with a BP today then both of us will have 7 points in our conference. tasty.

Urgh that is so frustrating. That game should have been long dead, never mind coughing up possession almost at full-time whistle.
It's great that we've remembered how to attack but our game management is absolutely all over the place. Vellacot is an incredible attacking talent but it's like his presence makes everyone else get carried away.
I did like Lang at 12 though and hopefully he can be more of a controlling presence once he gets up to speed.
7 points from 2 games is by no mean a disaster but we should have won that!

You would think that Blair is the kind of guy to sit for hours with the AV guys to work out where they lost that. What a bummer although by all accounts a great game.
Delighted with the Glasgow result - just need to try and find some highlights now.

I can just see Mike Blair in an episode of Black Mirror. To get secret footage of Leinster's Special Sauce, he would have to accept an embedded chip in his neck which gradually made him more Irish as the show progressed. At the end he would be sitting in a Murrayfield pub with a full ginger beard and a pig under one arm, crying.

Just watched the Edinburgh game from last weekend.
Fair play to Benetton for the nerveless 40m drop goal from the 19 year old, but how did he ever get the chance to go for it. Edinburgh should have closed that game out from where the were, but so many mistakes.
Won't have been a great debrief on monday for those players

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
The Glasgow blogger Ontopofthemoon has produced his latest 'depth chart' for Glasgow...I like the way Wilson has gone about his business re-molding the squad.
We are still perhaps light in the backrow, with only six full time players, to deal with injuries an internationals. Assuming we will lose at least two during the international period (I know there is no direct conflict now, but assuming rest weeks etc) that feels a bit sparse, but Gregor Brown showed up well last year in his brief appearances and Rhys Tait has been getting rave reviews at Super 6 level. There is also a big drop off from Cummings and Gray, but again lots of exciting talent coming through in the boiler room in Samuel and Williamson.

Agreed EST.
Batman-Demo-Darge
Or
Miller-Fagerson-Mullet
Not too shabby. BigBad and Brown as back up. We probably need at least one more experienced back up; is that why DW has been playing locks at 6?
The injury to Kiran McDonald means Bain-Bean is our back up boiler room. Considering how well Gray- Cummings have started the season that's a big drop off.
Still the early signs are that we're going to play fast, exciting antiCockers rugby.

Oh well. Cummings is out for two months with a hand injury.
Rate Tangive, who broke his jaw in a pre season match, is apparently off to Fiji Drua. He never really got a decent run of games without injury. It's a shame we never got to see how good he might have been.

Damn, and just after you were saying how well the Cummings/Gray combo was going - that's a big blow for Scotland with the AI's round the corner.

We’ve been completely out of ideas in the second half, at one point resorting to the cockers playbook of box kicking everything away. Stormers defence has been very effective, but we’ve really lacked ideas

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
Yeah I agree Llama, Stormers played some good attacking rugby at times but were pretty loose as well. Edinburgh may well have lost if they hadn't had such a fast start because they lacked a way to win it and seemed to rely on bashing it up the ground a bit too much via the forwards. Bit of a mad ending, glad VDW saw reason and booted to touch. All in all, loads to work on in a positive way I would say. Having Immelman at 15 makes such a difference for Edinburgh, he seems very reliable. Great signing.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
Interesting, see there are a few things that I don’t have a lot of confidence in with him at the moment. Kicking penalties for touch his range was pretty terrible today and robbed us of a few chances to put real pressure on in the second half. Also his kick chase, to me he’s pretty headless chicken and manages to not really get himself in a position to challenge for the ball. I’ve been trying to find the match stats to see if I’m off on this, but I have a feeling his error count is quite high.
I may well be wrong, I’ll keep a close eye on him in the next few games and see if he changes my mind!
