Rohit talking before final.
3.mesages that I read from his speech.
1..setting up pre-emptive defense not to be judged harshly if he loses
2. Axar will play
3. Cryptic on Pant vs Dk
Interpret as you want to

Jordan fills me with dread. Expect 3 decent overs, then the one that disappears for 25. There's a reason such an experienced player isn't a first team pick

If Jordan does come in for Wood and lengthen the batting even further, England have to use it. They have to have the awkward conversation with their bowlers that they think they’ll concede a lot so they have aim for the moon with the batting! Which they haven’t shown the intent to so far this comp.

It's not shaping up well for England.
"Buttler has played here six times – two Tests, two one-day internationals and twice in the Big Bash League – and lost on every occasion."
"Buttler has faced 32 deliveries from Kumar in T20 internationals, scored 30 runs, got out five times and has an average of six; England’s innings will almost certainly start with Buttler facing Kumar."

I’m massively pro Buttler opening, but if there ever was a situation where you’d consider shifting him down it would be against Bhuvi when you likely have two genuine openers (Salt and Hales) who are better vs pace and Buttler could temporarily help solve England’s middle over woes vs spin this tournament.

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
oh dear ! All this bad news around fitness of key players and an Adelaide hoodoo has me nearly ready to give up on this one in advance
Not quite , though. Wood if he is out will be a huge blow - and I am not convinced Jordan would be the best replacement (though I am sure the selectors will ignore my opinion), think I'd prefer Willey (to bowl heavily in the opening PP and leave the last four to Woakes Stokes and Curran). Salt for Malan might be OK as long as they leave Stokes at three and either have Salt open (Buttler to four) or bat Salt somewhere in the middle in a flexible 4-7. None of this ideal , of course , but needs must sometimes...
India apparently want to go with Karthik and Axar...I am not sure that is their best but they seem to have got a lot right so far in this WC.
Does all this make India massive favourites ? Maybe ; but England may feel getting Kohli and Yadav out cheaply (not that easy !) could limit their scoring potential ; while their own batting strength is a little more evenly spread - certainly they have more "useful late order biffers". In truth I reckon England's batting has generally well under-achieved in this WC , so today would be a nice time for that to be remedied.
Not game to make a prediction anyway after getting yesterday so completely wrong. But I do hope for a better contest. For all we have to praise Pakistan for their win , I thought that apart from their excellent seam bowling at both ends , there was very little to get excited about in the match. NZ had a 'mare : "ordinary" batting , very poor bowling and uncharacteristically bad fielding. After some fine group matches , was a pretty disappointing semi final.
Side note : whoever wins tonight may well end up sharing the trophy with Pakistan judging by the Melbourne forecast for Sunday/Monday

Like many, Jordan does not inspire a whole pile of confidence in me. His glory days are in the past. I too would have gone with Willey to swing it around corners in the power play.
I would also agree with Salt opening with Hales and dropping Buttler down the order to 3 or even four depending on whether England are chasing or setting.

For India, Axar playing is surprising but nowhere near as surprising if Pant were to be left out for DK.

Buttler wins the toss and sends India into bat. Not sure I would have done that but it is what it is.

Actually, on paper these two are very evenly balanced with the exception that England have a longer batting tail.

They just don't listen to us , Eirebilly
Interesting choice at the toss , eh ? England haven't been too confident chasing so far...Buttler must think batting will get easier later in the evening. Hope he's right.

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
I think Buttler just feels confident that England can chase down any target with this batting line up. I can understand that in fairness.
I have a feeling that anything over 180 might be a bridge too far though. Would hope to restrict India to around 160.

I can see the logic in chasing. We saw yesterday batting first didn't go well, considering NZ ended up four down they got the pacing wrong. If the opposition make 180 or 200 then fair enough, you weren't good enough

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
England have gone back to old faithful - i.e. chasing. No faith in defending a target with the increasingly makeshift bowling line-up, so let's chase one instead and cede a minor advantage from the off. Fair enough I guess. Then swing with the batting going down to 11, pretty much.
India have seen sense with their selection and included Pant.
England need to get this PowerPlay right. Fielding inside the circle against Sri Lanka was far too passive, gifting too many singles. Can't be the same here. Aggression and intensity needed. Hope they've got the bowling order sorted as well.

Ravi Bopara on Ben Stokes - I don't want him in the top six.
Sod off, Ravi. I didn't want you in the top eleven, but I didn't say anything. Well...maybe I did.

Excellent point on the passive fielding Duty. It was poor in fairness and gifted Sri Lanka plenty of momentum.
I do not like Stokes bowling first...

But Woakes is a good new ball bowler Good start for England

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
The two ‘easiest’ overs to bowl in T20s are the first and seventh. So I see the logic in trying to get an over of Stokes out of the way.
Good nut from Woakes. Let’s try and get Sky in early.

Excellent over from Curran, only soft hands from Kholi preventing another wick for England.

Well can see why they chose to bowl now...looks to be a bit there for the pace men ; and they'll be expecting it to be a bit easier to bat on lately.
Great first over from Curran. But Kohli is up and away early...they will need to get him.

Surprised to see Rashid in the PowerPlay! Didn't do much damage, thanks to a fine stop from Curran. Excellent fielding from England during the PowerPlay, but India have a good platform after 6.

Calling that "even" after the PP. A couple of half chances . Run rate not crazy yet.
Lot depends on these middle overs ...Livingstone , if he can do well , might be a bonus. Going to miss Wood roundabout now though...

Yes. Teams often tend to be just a little "careful" against him these days...look to go hard at the other end. And that can hurt England because they miss his wickets...
Jordan up now. Think he has to perform or big trouble for England.

Not a great knock from Rohit - 27 off 28. But a good confidence builder for Jordan. Not you feel like the game really starts.

Good boost for Jordan. Sticky innings from Rohit - a few boundaries, but quite a few dots as well. Not a bad wicket for India to lose, in all honesty, now Yadav can come to the crease. Big partnership this.

Now England really do need to get one of these two out very soonish. These two can take games away from the opposition especially with this many overs to go.

10 overs gone, 2 wickets, India kept to a slow run rate and 4 overs of spin used. Not a bad start at all for England.

SKY will want to do his thing and then get this game wrapped up early. I believe he is off to cure global poverty and broker peace in Ukraine between now and his match winning century in the final.

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
62/2 at halfway, in the balance, or maybe England just ahead.
It's a slow pitch, England's bowling has been mostly accurate and the fielding sharp, so there's been a fair few dots and India haven't yet got going. The slowness means England can't expect to blast away and be 60/0 off 6 when they bat, so I hope they're cognisant of that.
Need to keep India to below 150.

He may have started off the tournament a bit dodgy, but Rashid has been superb the last few games - excellent spell tonight.
77-3 off 12 with Kohli and Hardik at the crease - least we shouldn't be looking at a 180-200 type score. Another couple of wickets now would be lovely
