Escape from Alcatraz - Occum's razor is being blunted ??

Did Mallory reach Everest before he died coming down ??.....Did Armstrong take one small step in a garage in Kentucky ???.....Did the most famous escape in American history end off the perishing waters of San Francisco bay ????......Occum's razor says no to the first two and yes for the last one...

But Occum's razor isn't always right......Just the oddsmakers preferred option...

The Escape in 1962 (Clint Eastwood made a good film on it) featured two brothers Clarence and John Anglin and the ringleader a petty criminal who amazingly had a very high IQ in Frank Morris.....

The Escape as you probably know....They made Papermache heads so they wouldn't be discovered until morning roll call and then crawled through vents in their cell....pulled themselves up pipes to the prison roof and then slid down a smoke stack to the awaiting bay.....Convention suggests the freezing waters made mincemeat of their attempt to reach the nearby Angel Island while riding a raft made up off 50 raincoats and they drowned in the choppy sea...

Officially....No signs were seen at Angel Island and some of Clarence Anglin's belongings were washed up out to sea........Further evidence to prove the drowning theory were that these career criminals were never caught again (they weren't great criminals) and their confidantes in the prison said they were going to steal a car when they made it to the Island and no cars were officially reported missing that night..The water temperature that night was particularly cold and the water currents were strong and the waves hazardous as they tended to be in the early hours..Scientists suggested they couldn't have made the mile and a half trip....No one could..........

RIP Frank Morris and the Anglin boys..


But maybe not so quick.....The story has it that the boys entered the water in the early hours when the water was at its worst....Tests conducted later suggested the bay got particularly bad around midnight and that it could be managed before that time.....A Guard whose testimony was dismissed claimed he heard noises on the roof at 10pm.....Not long after lights out.....With that timescale the escapees probably hit the water around 10-30-11pm......

FBI files released years later state that a raft was found on Angel Island and a blue chevrolet was actually reported missing at 1.30am in the morning close to the Island....

Ten years after the escape a drug smuggler who was in Brazil who knew the Anglin brothers took a picture of two middle aged men who renowned forensic scientologists after studying the picture said were almost certainly the brothers after studying their facial characteristics.....

When Mrs Anglin (Mommy) died witnesses said two tall figures dressed as Women but looking more like Men came to the funeral....No one recognised the two figures who looked out of place !!!

Is this to be believed ???

Probably the last way anyone has of knowing the truth......Was a letter the authorities received in 2018 from a person claiming to be John Anglin.....He stated that Morris had died in 2011....His brother had died in 2013 and he was seriously ill and would tell his story of the escape if he only received a year in prison and got medical assistance.....Various details of the "Barely survived" escape were detailed..

The Authorities destroyed the letter.....

What to believe ??.......They probably died in the bay I guess.........and then they probably didn't i guess....

Me I prefer the latter story....but alas like Mallory on Everest we will never know.....For sure.
