Why do they keep throwing long - keep it short and secure the ball

Fiji's line-out letting them down; the breakdown work saving them.

Who's calling the Fiji lineout? It's struggling and they keep going long. Silly.

A better and less bigoted explanation would be that a generation of very experienced commentators have retired or been shuffled out of the way, and the ones who’ve come in are still learning the ropes. The male newbies have as many weaknesses as the female ones.
But they learn and get better - to give one example, Ugo Monye was pretty ropey in his first few seasons but has become a much better pundit over time

Fiji tiring badly but just about hanging on. It would be nice if they could get another pen to make the game safe and deny Aus the BP

On replay it was over the line on the first bounce, just outside the 22. But the initial angle made it look like it was in

Excellent win for Fiji.
I’m still not confident of Wales beating Aus because of history. If we don’t beat Aus in their current form, and with their injuries, then we are just utter Poopie.

Well done, Fiji.
Immense work at the breakdown, strong defence and solid goalkicking. They tired towards the end, but still closed it out. Full credit for not fading after getting mugged v Wales.
But Australia get a losing BP and that could be vital in the final calculations. As could Fiji's two BPs in the loss v Wales, or Wales' late try v Portugal yesterday.
If Wales beat Australia, it's all very simple. But if Australia win we'll need the calculators.

That young 9 was quality on the first half. Set them up for the win. If he and Muntz can stay fit and available that will give Fiji a really good 9/10 combination for the next world cup cycle.
Another Fiji game another enthralling one. Great entertainment.

Surely Wales are the ones at the disadvantage given Fiji got two BPs? Georgia should still have a say in this group too.Duty281 wrote:Well done, Fiji.

If Wales lose to Australia, and Georgia and Portugal all lose their remaining games v Fiji/Aus/Wales, then Wales could end up with 14-17 points depending on BPs; Australia could end up with 14-16 points depending on BPs; Fiji could end up with 14-16 points depending on BPs.
It's all very tight. If Georgia could throw an upset in that would of course drastically alter the equation. And if Wales beat Australia then it should be a simple Wales 1st/Fiji 2nd.

It says on Wikipedia 'Points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question' comes before points difference, so I think if the three teams all ended up on 16 points then they'd cross out the results v Georgia and Portugal and just analyse the points from the Wales v Fiji/Fiji v Aus/Wales v Aus games, which currently reads:
Fiji 6 points (2 v Wales and 4 v Aus)
Wales 5 points (5 v Fiji and ? v Aus)
Australia 1 point (1 v Fiji and ? v Wales).
It would be quite difficult, but possible, for them to all end up on six points, after which it would go to points difference (in all pool matches).

Re: Rugby World Cup - other team/games and general chat
Actually not that difficult then as it would just have to be a win for Oz with a TBP and a TBP or LBP for Wales?

Re: Rugby World Cup - other team/games and general chat
True, but I think the game might be a bit tighter than Australia running in four tries, and Wales still keeping within 7 or scoring four of their own!
So overall:
Australia beat Wales with a TBP and Wales get either a LBP or a TBP of their own AND Fiji get a TBP win over Georgia AND Australia get a TBP win over Portugal AND Wales get a TBP win over Georgia AND Fiji get a TBP win over Portugal.
That would equal all three teams level on 16 points, level on the H2H, and it would come down to points difference in all games. Fiji currently have the worst points difference, but they've got their toughest games out of the way.

Bemusing why Joseph plays two Fijian journeymen on the wings instead of the young talented Japanese wingers in the top league. The quicker Joseph leaves Japan the better.

BamBam is still here! Posting his usually bile the other day. Got his post taken down I think. Mr Double Standards personified.
I like all those other names though, many of whom came across (like me) from the original BBC 606. Good memories!

Yeah, I came over from 606 too. From memory my username there was Johnno4PM. I was young. He hadn't become an unqualified coach yet, let alone his god awful punditry. I was a second row and supported Leicester. I feel it was justified at the time. Less so now.
I started posting there intermittently when Scrum V was the rugby forum. Then they moved everything onto 606 but I seem to remember that the Welsh forum stayed on Scrum V for a time as BBC Cymru kept it? Or maybe I hallucinated that.
The mothership of all trolls 'Triangulation' popped up on 606 near the time it shut. I believe he briefly tried to bring his talents here and the mods stamped on it beautifully quickly.
I made an account here the night that 606 was closing out of memory. I didn't post that regularly for a while though. Then got addicted to the cricket boards first and slid back over the rugby side latterly.
Every now and again a poster who's disappeared will pop into my head and I'll hope they just got sick of discussing sport rather than actually got sick. It's one of those odd things about a forum such as this that many of us have made 10,000+ posts and spent lord knows how many hours chatting with one another but if the worst were to happen we'd likely be none the wiser.

Yeah, if I tried that with my loved ones I'd die 4 times in the first month due to things like, "being hit by a blimp". Or they'd log on and write an impassioned defence of Clive Woodward being on TV. Frak, they're great. The pricks.

Feisty game this. Italy down to 13 and all level on the scores.
Gardener seems reluctant to make decisions, and his communication with the TMO isn't great (they don't seem to like each other).
