Billy Vunipola arrested
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2024/04/29/billy-vunipola-arrested-after-incident-in-spanish-bar/
Billy Vunipola, the Saracens and England rugby player, has been arrested after an alleged violent incident at a bar in Majorca.
According to reports, the 31-year-old had to be tasered twice by police who attended a bar called Epic, in the town of Palma, at 4.30am on Sunday.
The first shot with the taser apparently had little affect on the No 8, who was alleged to have removed his shirt and been threatening staff and drinkers with bottles and chairs.
Vunipola, who weighs 20 stone, is said to have challenged officers before they managed to handcuff him. He was escorted to a nearby hospital where, according to reports, he had to be sedated and strapped to his bed.
He was kept under guard until he appeared in court on Sunday wearing a blue T shirt and beige shorts. He has been released on bail pending an investigation.
Police have not yet commented on the arrest.

I didn't know he had an alcohol problem in the past. Hope no one was hurt and he receives whatever help he seems to need.

He didn't drink at all when he was younger and only picked up a taste early in his England career.

Re: Billy Vunipola arrested
BV puts out his own statement, apologising and saying it was a misunderstanding and saying no violence was actually involved.
It must have been some misunderstanding for him to end up getting tasered twice!

Let's be honest who amongst us hasn't been involved in a slight miscommunication that's led to a gentle tazzing from time to time?
But have to say I have never been sedated at hospital due to a misunderstanding

Having to be tazered twice!
Reminds me of the scene in Blazing Saddles;
" Sherrif! Mongo's terrorising the saloon. "
( sherrif begins to buckle on his holster)
" I wouldn't do that, sherriff"
""Why not?"
"If you shoot him you'll just make him angry."

The Spanish police misunderstood that he didn't want to be arrested.

Anyone else find it interesting that Saracens gave a big old thumbs up to his statement which basically says 'no biggie'.
I thought clubs these days expect their players to uphold a certain conduct in public? Looks like he's saying he didn't do a damn thing wrong and Saracens agree.
And here we are worrying that he's got alcohol issues. Some under carpet sweeping going on here?

I am not sure it is really Sarries issue now as it sounds very much like he is leaving at the end of the season in any case. He may get a token slap on the wrist from them, but it likely won't amount to much.
Probably of greater interest is how his prospective French employers view things. They may be slightly spoked at what they could be getting in to.

Spanish police saying the first taser wasn't actually activated...
There does seem to be differing versions of the incident even from people there...

Telegraph says Montpellier will go ahead with the Billy Vunipola signing.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2024/04/30/montpellier-billy-vunipola-go-ahead-signing-despite-arrest/
Billy Vunipola’s move to Montpellier next season has not been jeopardised by his arrest in a Spanish bar during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Vunipola, who was tasered and detained in a Majorcan establishment called Epic, is due to join the French club at the end of this season, ending an 11-year association with Saracens and his England career in the process.
Telegraph Sport understands that the No 8’s move to Montpellier is still on the cards despite Sunday’s incident. “All is well,” said a source close to the French club, which is owned by billionaire Mohed Altrad. “No one in France is talking about it.”
At the end of last season, Montpellier cancelled the transfer of Luke Cowan-Dickie after the England hooker was allegedly put into a drunk tank while on a visit to the French city. Mohamed Haouas, the France prop who was sent off against Scotland in the 2020 and 2023 Six Nations, will be a team-mate of Vunipola’s next season despite having been found guilty of domestic abuse and fighting in a bakery last year.
Whether Vunipola faces further disciplinary action from either Saracens or the Rugby Football Union remains to be seen, although clearly any sanction could lead to another assessment in the Montpellier boardroom. On Monday, the 31-year-old’s club released a statement saying they would “deal with” the incident.
“Saracens is aware of an incident involving Billy Vunipola in Majorca,” it read. “We will of course deal with this incident internally, and will not make any further comment until then.”
