North Weald Open Alternative budget
North Weald Open alternate
First topic message reminder :
Ok... So the 36 holer at North Weald has now been cancelled (which is a bit of a pain but such is life).
There have been suggestions that perhaps we should get together around the northern M25 area for a game anyway as most of us have already taken the day off and for those travelling accomodation will already have been booked.
So. First up a budget. For those of you coming along select the most appropriate budget for the day. We'll work to the majority I think. In addition drop a comment on the thread to let us know who is intending to be around. Then once we have a rough idea of people and the amount being spent we can look at appropriate tracks.
I've allowed 7 days for voting as we only have three weeks to get this arranged. So lets do this rapidly guys. Also... The funds I am suggesting is for 18 holes rather than a day.

I have to say you are putting a lot of faith in me... not sure they do reduced green fees. After all it's not a members owned track so the chances are slim! That said it's not very expensive anyway...
I shall pose the £5 question to Mr Ringer and let you know his response.
Mods. I am not to blame for any subsequent obscenities.. I am merely reproducing the message I receive back for the knowledge of Mr Shanker.

Have we decided on the tee-off time? If we can at least establish that, then I will know whether to travel up overnight or on the morning - I would be open to either, but need to know asap [NSTanticipatingmorearsingaroundontheinternet]. What with all these bookings and cancelations I am activehotels favourite customer at the moment [NOT]

This guy is rather weird?!? Can honestly say that I've not really encountered such a pointless existence - I don't see the kick out of pointless statements. Surely after one or two the novelty wears off?

11 was the suggestion. And it seems north weald is the venue. I'll get exact times after my round this saturday. If that suits people of course.

I was unaware it was on the list. I know you say that you were enrolled on the original open, as you say you are enrolled on the Midlands open.
However, once that open was cancelled, this became an invitation only game of golf, attended by people who have already met up and played before.
You, we do not know.

I've heard quite a few good things about Old Fold Manor, green fee for 18 holes midweek is £35. Is this somewhere we should be considering??

Re: North Weald Open alternate
The only thing with OFM is that visitors can only book 24 hours in advance. Which might make it a little difficult with arrangements.
That said I would happily play the place.
Baboo... Do me a favour. Stop suggesting I would have welcomed you. I wouldn't.

Re: North Weald Open alternate
Just looked up OFM - it looks a really interesting and challenging course.
I see your game here......you know full well that the greens will scare the living beejaysus out of me.....and how right you are.
But, in for a penny etc. etc.
As before, I have played so few courses in the area and can reach most with relative ease, that I will play anywhere.
I'm just a bit of a golfing tart really.

Re: North Weald Open alternate
Shanker if it helps the greens at Old Fold are nowhere near as slopey or firm as those at North Weald... so although they are quick they aren't anywhere near as difficult to putt on as those at my track.
Particularly since they have been cut right down this week. I had a 6 footer for birdie on the front of the 14th on Sunday that I hit as softly as you can imagine. It was a level putt with a left to right on it.... the ball turned 90 degrees an inch in front of the hole as it ran out of pace... then gathered speed and I holed a 5 footer for par back up the hill.
There are some putts out there at the moment that are dangerous. I saw one guy hit a downhill putt from 3 feet more than 10 feet past after lipping out. Dangerous!

Those greens should be slowed down if guys are lopping out and the ball traveling 10 feet fast. They sound like they are unplayable

Nope. They're fine. Get on the wrong side of the hole, or over a ridge and you deserve to three putt. He was three feet above the hole. Hit it firm on the wrong line and paid the price.

You have persuaded me with your silver tongued eloquence.
Frankly, for a decent bacon butty, I will forgive any number of slippery putts. I'd better put my break reading head in the golf bag.

Cool, heard a few good reports about OFM so suits me.
So we have a venue, all we need now is a time.....
10:30 for 11am? Or is that a bit early for those travelling on the day?

Excellent, what about your uncle?
11.00 start sounds good, although I will probably get there 9.30/10.00. I need more time to eat my bacon butty, otherwise I will be wearing a ketchup stripe for the rest of the day.
I think the time will be ok for NST, what about you and your mate SJ?

I imagine he'll be in favour of it. His sort of course being the straight hitting irritating git that he is.
It's also the RINGERs birthday so although he'll be playing chances are there will be a rapid exit as he's having a family meal out that evening.

He'd better not win the pot then!! I expect he'll be able to stay for a swift 1 or 2 afterwards though, unless the rounds are stupidly slow.
