The Best Films Ever!
Seeing as we have over-rated films, how about some of your all time favourites...
Layer Cake - Brilliant film, proper gangster flick, Gambon, Meaney, Craig all play their parts brilliantly.
Love, Honour & Obey - Another classic, such a great brit cast and some great performances from Jonny Lee Miller, Ray Winstone, Sadie Frost and Rhys Ifans.

For me...
Pulp Fiction. Tarantino’s finest hour. Wonderfully interweaving characters with great dialogue between characters.
Fight Club. Brad Pitt being the coolest split personality ever seen. 1st rule of Fight Club? Watch Fight Club.
Trainspotting. In an age of wishy washy British romcoms there was this wonderfully dark tale of drug-abuse, child neglect, underage sex and Aids in Glasgow.
Honourable mentions:
Empire Strikes back, Airplane, Shawn of the Dead, Napoleon Dynamite, Anchorman, Dogma, Diehard, Dodgeball, Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, 28 Days later, Lost Boys, American Psycho, Children of Men, Goonies, Aliens, Breakfast Club, Nightmare before Christmas, Gremlins, Life of Brian, Ghostbusters, True Romance, One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest, Ferris Buellers Day Off, the Great Escape, the Shining, BladeRunner, Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Pulp Fiction - Nothing will ever come close to matching this film. Samuel L, Travolta, Thurman, Willis. Could it get any better?

True Romance - Walken, Hopper, Christian Slater, Brad Pitt, Samuel L Jackson, Gary Oldman, Patricia Arquette, Chris Penn, Tom Sizemore to name but a few.
Its written by Tarrantino so has brilliant dialogue but isnt irected by him, which is why it is better

Young Frankenstein Gene Wilder,Marty Feldman and the cameo by Gene Hackman
Blazing Saddles
Ice Age
Aliens
Con Air
Casino Royale & Quantum of Solace I think Daniel Craig is possibly the best Bond yet
The Birdcage just for how they dressed Gene Hackman up at the end of the film
Anger Management Jack Nicholson was very good

Have to agree with you KB, Layer Cake is one of my favourite films.
Along with:
The Shawshank Redemption
Snatch
Lucky Number Slevin
Scarface.
Lastly another one of my favourites is The Dark Knight, mainly due to Heath Ledgers brilliant portrayal of The Joker, absolute class!
Anyone got any thoughts on any of the above?

Those "B" Westerns!
Virtually anything Audie Murphy did.
There's no dead time or boring pontificating, or long, long camera shots.
"B" films are the very distillation of the essential elements.
I've been watching films for over 50 years and just cannot stomach any more
those long, boring, psuedo films.
Some honourable exceptions of course-e.g. "Once Upon a Time in Amerix=ca".

I so agree on the Matrix (assuming you're NOT talking about the third film). It was totally awesome and still ranks as my favourite film.
Another I really enjoyed is The Incredibles.

Absolutely not! that was 1 too many! Same with Jurassic Park. Why do they always do that? Make too many films of a franchise?

Re: The Best Films Ever!
It’s the same as why do they make remakes of old films/tv shows?
Because it’s a safe bet and film studios don’t like taking risks.
A remake of say ‘Star Wars’ would sell by the bucket load even if it would be tosh.
Yet a new space opera film would be a gamble, it could be a smash, it could flop even if it is really good.

Re: The Best Films Ever!
For example, Serenity is one of the best Sci Fi films of the last 10 years but was a flop.
Whereas Indy IV is one of the worst films (ever) and was a hit.
no justice.

Re: The Best Films Ever!
my favourites:
The Matrix Trilogy (yes trilogy although obviously the first was the best for being so groundbreaking both stylistically and in its plot - I truly believe The Matrix is one of the greatest films to have ever changed cinema)
Batman Begins and the Dark Knight - the two greatest comic book films ever made, especially the Dark Knight with a flawless representation of the Joker.
Blade Runner - ground breaking, intriguing, visually stunning and a very artistic film

There's quite a lot to mention here so I'll only mention a few
Road to Perdition
Looking for Eric
Starship Troopers
The Departed
From Dusk Till Dawn
Slumdog Millionaire
Con Air
The Beach
The Untouchables
I'm a fan of Studio Ghibli's work too, but not in pretentious anime geek fashion.

Depends entirely on my mood.
If I'm in a "Switch off my brain and laugh" mood then it has to be: -
Dodgeball
Anchorman
The Hangover
Kick-Ass
If I'm in an action kinda mood: -
SWAT
Shooter
Bad Boys (1 or 2)
Man On Fire
Fight Club
The Bourne Trilogy
