Hey Tooze!
Who do you think will leave Norwich in the Summer??
I say:
Leon Barnett,
Elliott Ward,
Steve Morison,
Simon Lappin,
and unfortunately Aaron Wilbraham
Who else do you think?

Canary Chatter Article
By Oliver Inwards
5 players who could leave Carrow Road in the summer.
With our first season back in the Premier League rapidly coming to a close, I am turning my attentions to the summer transfer window. Who will be leaving Norfolk this summer?
1. Leon Barnett – Estimated fee (£250,000) – Destination (lower championship club)
Who would have thought at the start of the season that this man would fall so quickly from grace. He was our regular starting centre back alongside Russell Martin for a good three months and he did a very solid job. But with the returns of Elliott Ward, Daniel Ayala and Zak Whitbread along with the January signing of Ryan Bennett, Barnett has fallen to reserve team football. I was very surprised he didn’t go out on loan to Peterborough as part of the Ryan Bennett deal. I think he is nailed on to leave Carrow Road in the summer with a host of championship teams waiting sign him up.
2. Simon Lappin – Estimated fee (£50,000) – Destination (Mid table SPL side)
Simon Lappin used to be one of my favourite players when we were in League 1. But that was League 1 where the standard is much lower than the Premier League and unfortunately it is time for Lappin to leave. He has become surplus to requirements and despite his wonderful left foot, he just doesn’t have to pace to cut if at the top level. He will return home to Scotland where he will find a decent SPL side to play for.
3. Chris Martin – Estimated fee (£500,000) – Destination (Championship – probably Crystal Palace)
One of our own Chris Martin had his opportunity at the start of the season but failed to strike any fear into Premier League defences, so he was quickly shipped out on loan to Crystal Palace. Some people might want him to stay as he is still relatively young but in my eyes he will never be good enough for the Premier League. He would command quite a nice transfer fee as he is a proven goal scorer at League 1 and Championship level but for me he will never be good enough for Norwich. Seeming as he is doing well on loan at Crystal Palace this season I think this will be the destination for him.
4. Elliott Ward – Estimated fee (Free transfer) – Destination (High table Championship side)
Now this is an interesting case as I do like Elliott Ward but I think he will leave. Rumours going around say that his contract is up in the summer. This presents an interesting case to Paul Lambert as Ward can be a very good performer but then he does look very shaky at different points. I would let Ward leave when his contract is up because I think we have more able centre backs at the club. Zak Whitbread, Daniel Ayala, Ryan Bennett and Russell Martin are in my eyes better centre backs than Ward. Maybe Lambert will keep him for squad depth but I would let him leave and if needs be bring someone in on loan to add depth. He would garner interest from several top Championship clubs.
5. James Vaughan – Estimated fee (£1 million) – Destination (Mid Table Championship side)
Now this may be a bit of a controversial choice. Vaughan is a player who has a good amount of talent and has the potential to play at the highest level. But he is just constantly injured. He has made just three appearances all season. I know we bought him in for a fair chunk of money but even at that time I was sceptical about his injury problems. Unfortunately as much as I want him to succeed at Norwich City, I don’t think he is able to stay fit enough for long enough. Therefore I would move him on in the summer and there would be a host of Championship sides willing to take the risk on his injury troubles.
These are the players that I would move on in the summer as we look to build our squad towards, hopefully, another successful season in the Premier League.

Olly - I agree with all your comments about Vaughan apart from the final part of your last sentence.ollyrules wrote:

Very few Championship sides - if any - are awash with cash. Due to his injury record, signing him will be seen as a financial risk and I don't think many clubs will be willing or able to afford it.
Like you, I had doubts when Norwich signed him. Sorry for all that it doesn't seem to have worked out.

Well I just thought that he had a good year with Crystal Palace the season before we signed him and that might be enough for someone to take a risk on him.

Can't see us letting him go without giving him a chance at Prem level. Don't think he's up to it personally.

Re: Norwich City News Thread
Tooze here is my latest article if you wanna read
Do NCFC need to sign a quality holding midfielder to protect defence?
Despite our excellent season back in the Premier League, one thing has been a constant worry. Conceding goals. We have conceded the most goals outside of the bottom three this season which is not a good stat to have against our name. I know our style of play means other teams are going to get opportunites as we push forward ourselves but maybe a little tightening up is needed for next season. Now one position that can help stop the flow of goals is the holding midfield position. Lets assess who we have to play there at the moment.
Firstly we have David Fox who usually plays in the base of the diamond meaning he takes up that holding midfield position. Now Fox is not a player in my eyes who is able to break up the oppositions attacks constantly enough. However Fox adds a different dimension to the position with his wide array of passing which gets Norwich flowing.
Next we have Bradley Johnson. Johnson is more of a central midfielder, but can play more of a holding role. Johnson is more of a hard tackler than Fox but Johnson’s passing abilities are a level below Fox’s. Johnson is definitely more effective as part of a midfield two than in the diamond.
The final candidate would be Jonny Howson but he has shown himself to be a very effective player when he is pushed forward so he wouldn’t be an option.
The holding midfield role is crucial in terms of breaking up play. The great teams of yester year all had an enforcer. Makelele, Keane, Viera are all examples of this. To tighten up our defence a holding midfielder is needed. Ideally we would have a holding midfielder who has the passing abilities of Fox and the tackling abilities of Johnson. However there are very few players who have the combination of this who are available within our price range. Maybe a loan signing could do the job, someone like Emmanuel Frimpong or Oriol Romeu, who don’t get regular games at the top clubs but could do a very good job for us.
I would say that Norwich do need a quality holding midfielder to protect the defence next season but finding one that can do the job in our diamond of passing as well as breaking up the play could be a much harder task.

News from Press conference
PL: Zak Whitbread still struggling with calf injury, but James Vaughan is in the squad.
PL: Even if it wasn't for financial benefits of finishing higher I'd want to end as high in the table as we can. Sure rivals feel the same
PL: Blackburn gave us a really good game at our place and we are ready for another one there on Saturday.

Re: Norwich City News Thread
Norwich are absolutely dominaitng Arsenal, they have had 2 penalty calls denied, both stonewall. I hope FA looks in to this. Arsenal deserve to be 3 or 4 behind at this point but scandalous refs making the game more even.

Re: Norwich City News Thread
Any other news on friendlies, Tooze? The club are keeping it all very much under wraps this season!
Shame, really. I was hoping to get along for my first pre-season tour this year, but it's evidently not to be.

grant holt @holty30
People can't comment on transfer request at this time. For all asking I will still be at @adamdrury78 testimonial on Tuesday #getitsoldout

Great night last night at jay-z concert with the lads and lasses.
Nice to see Holty tweeting again, and for me it is just that he wants more money out of the club. That is it. Doesn't seem as if there is a rift in the camp
