606 Cool Wall
First topic message reminder :
Could be a good idea to create a 606 cool wall, with links to photo's of some must have, wish list, exotic great looking equipment. It may be kit that you've got or something you wished you had, or even something new to market that makes you drool.
http://www.golfstix.net/KZGForgedBladePutters.htm
This is my flat stick and the best putter I've ever used for feel and looks. The photo doesn't do it justice and i don't think they're producing this any more. Mine is a Ltd edition prototype.
At the end of the day it should be a consensus of opinion of what stays and goes from the cool wall

Your KZG is fine but for cool I'd have to go with a Geo Low 600 Bristol Wizard:
http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/165572-george-low-bristol-wizard-600/
For irons, would have to be something from Mr. Miura:
http://www.miuragolf.com/series57_blade.asp
Or maybe some '99 Hogan Apex blades.
Or a Joe Powell 'Firing Pin' persimmon driver.

Navy, looks great and along with LJ's Little Ben all very similar, but classic. Nothing like a piece of metal thats been milled and shaped into something special, almost mouth watering. I put those Muira's up on Friday

These won't be cool for anyone but me, but these were the first set of clubs I ever owned... aged 8, and went from a 23 handicap to 6 with them before upgrading.

Would anyone be interested in a 606 trek to south uist, I cant find anyone interested that i know. Hopefully there is another golf nut on here that would be up for it.

by the looks of where it is I think it's flight up there. Train to the coast. Fishing trawler to a major port and then a rowing boat with some old one eyed popeye looking mofo to get to the course.

Not that difficult really, you just pop the car on a ferry at oban and then get of on south uist. For me it is about a 3 hour drive to oban from edinburgh.
Check out the ferry service.

Do the pictures of Askernish not excite you?

It looks a decent enough place Mac... And I would play it if I was up there. But it is a hell of a trek from london. I imagine it takes three weeks for the first class post to get delivered during the winter!

Re: 606 Cool Wall
Mac thats a 6.5 hour drive to Oban and then another 5 hours on a ferry and god knows how long to get back to Oban as it goes around the houses.
A good night out in Oban followed by a cruise and a nice hotel? followed by a couple of days golf and then worry about the return trip. I'm game but is it really feasible. According to my route planner I could drive over the bridge into Sky and get a ferry from there 15 hours ffs, I could have played Pebble

According to Google it would take me 12 odd hours plus 120 quid in fuel.
Not sure if that includes a nap on the ferry though

Its tempting Mac, but its 3 days camel ride, but I'm not ruling it out as it looks to be a unique 'proper' links course. Somewhere just a little different where even Jas hasn't played

Re: 606 Cool Wall
I have had a look at the timetable and it looks like you would have to leave oban on a tuesday and return on a saturday.
I guess for me it is better as I could leave around 8am and be in Uist by around 7pm. I dont class that is a terrible journey considering the views from the ferry, of course while sipping a local whisky.

Like I say.. If I was up there it might be worth a look... but not as a specific thing. Far too removed from normal civilisation to go play it on a whim.

No. They're very cool to me . Excellent irons; used some very similar when I was younger. Wilson massively under-rated for me. Not trendy (cool?) enough for the 'kids'.

Re: 606 Cool Wall
I'm thinking the easiest solution is for me to fly from Manchester to Benbecula via Glasgow. Seems to be plenty of flights in and out of South Uist, and without transfer times its only 2.5 hours. Obviously get shafted for sports baggage, but could be much cheaper than driving and greener :606laugh: I have a 5ltr V8 Supercharged car that's a bit thirsty. Without doing too much digging as we don't know dates, it seems to be less than £300. £30 day tickets for the course, a few quid in the hotel and few meals and drinks seems ok. Flying is many days quicker
I'm seriously thinking about this still

Re: 606 Cool Wall
do it properly. i've had the following idea for years combining whisky and golf for something like a 3 week tour -
start in ayrshire; ferry to arran (arran distilery and 6 courses), ferry to mull of kintyre, drive down to campbelltown for machrihanish and springbank; drive back up the mull and over to islay for a whisky fest and golf on machrie. then either back to the mainland and drive to oban or take the ferry via colonsay, i think, to oban (distillery).
ferry to Mull for tobermory distillery and golf course; then ferry out to uist for askernish. drive up and get the ferry to skye for talisker distillery. back to mainland and drive over to brora, dornoch etc etc, glenmorangie distillery and one i can't remember the name of but is fab.
then the moray firth for all the courses and speyside malts you can wave a stick at. back down the a9, stopping to play at boat of garten in the mountains.
that should do...

i have to agree those type of clubs really appeal to me. You are lucky to have had such good first clubs. i had to make do with howsen. very uncool indeed.
I really like the way golf clubs used to look, nice simple designs that just look so good behind the ball. No idea why clubs have plastic bits hanging of them all over the place today.

Not sure anyone will agree, but these are cool irons in my mind, only reason I replaced them was because the grooves wore out!

I Love the more traditional looking Mizuno irons. Ones that somehow look like a traditional japanese samurai.

Yes, most modern clubs look awful... especially TM.
Having blades as a first set of clubs probably wouldn't be the way most people would go, but it certainly drilled in to me the importance of ball striking from a very early age.

A small fortune, but would be well worth it. It's great having stuff that no-one else has!
The Miura's have been going ok. Not really played that much in the last few months (I hate playing in cold weather), but when I have played, I have struck the ball really nicely.
I've just treated myself to a new putter, and I am currently in the market for a new driver... Really liking the look of the new Callaway RAZR Hawk Tour.

Re: 606 Cool Wall
That Wilson putter is lovely. I have almost always used blade putters of that design.
Started with an Auchterlonie [from their shop in St Andrews] when I was a kid, then a Lynx [which did not have the flange at the back admittedly], a McGregor [a Jack Nicklaus model], had a hickory shafted Gem [which was more decorative than used], a Letters Golden Goose [with the flange but more towards a centre shaft] and now have a Slotline [which has been in my bag longer than I can remember]. The Slotline looks almost identical to the Wilson but with a more obvious Milled face and a mark on the top to line up.
Any other style of putter I look at just does not look right to me.
Must be my traditionalist streak.................

That is my napa yes..
You can't really see the beauty of the thing in a pic... It's a lovely lightish bronze colour... and looks so so stunning when it's freshly oiled. It feels like putting with a piece of butter as well. Such a soft impact with the ball.
The beach looks good... but not as good as that little piece of putting craftmanship.

Cheers for the pics LJ. It does look special. Would love to have a go of one but you never see them in the shops. Is it a full or half shaft offset? One pic it looks like a half and another the full shaft. I dont like too much of an offset - the Yes! Sophia has hardly any. Jim Furyk had one for his win at The Tour Championship but I see he's ditched her already - the tramp!

I'd say half shaft at most Lairdy...
And you won't see one in the shops ever. I understand he only makes these as a special thing now... or possibly to tour order. Rarer than rocking horse Poopie as they say.

I want this on the wall.
http://images.esellerpro.com/2312/I/734/6/FT-3Tour9.5sole.JPG
This isn't based on looks but just on performance. It has a stonking hot club face. One of the hottest. One that Mr McDowell seems reluctant to move on from and it's pretty much been the only driver that ice cool Swede Henrik Stenson has used regularly in the past few years.
Yes it has an aquired sound off the club face, which I now love, and can be more difficult to control than more modern versions, but now that mostly everyone has moved on it's kinda like when the BMW M3 became cool again after all the footballers stopped using them.... no?
