Union Cane's Prediction Cup - The Final Result - Winner : alma
First topic message reminder :
I'm toying with the idea of running a knockout cup competition alongside the new Premiership / Championship Prediction Leagues, this is just a test event to iron out any potential problems with the stadia and transport network et cetera.
The idea is to use Wednesday Night Fights for the cup competition, this will mean a limited choice and a lot of unheard of fighters, so it might fall flat on its face, but if it doesn't work I'll know not to bother with it when the next season kicks off.
So, I need 16 volunteers for the test event, once we have the 16 I will do the draw and then put the fights up for you to predict.

The Final
We are going on a five day trip around the world for The Final, visiting all four corners of the globe.
The fights are as follows :
A - Sunday 4th September - Tanzania
1. Bakari Mohamed v. Ramadhani Shauri (8) - Ramadhani Shauri W PTS

Injury and illness decimated the line up (I should think), and only 3 fights survived, one of which was drawn. Alma scores an impressive 8 points, having predicted both remaining fights would end in decisions, whilst sodhat scores a solitary 1 point for predicting that Shauri would beat Mohamed. That's quite a lead after the first card, has alma got this in the bag already?

If I get confirmation that the fight hasn't happened (ie it disappears off Boxrec) then scores will be as they are now.

Union, you really have gone to town on the final. Lovely stuff, I must say. Congratulations to you. It has kept my interest throughout, despite being eliminated in the opening round. Actually, that last sentance is a lie, but I do admire both your perseverance and tenacity in the face of Coxy's goading. Keep fighting the good fight, big man.
Question for you, do you actually have a job or are you the boss as your workrate on this is tireless.

I do have a job, which pays well but unfortunately doesn't fill my time very well, I'm too damn efficient see.
Luckily my monitor faces away from my colleagues so nobody suspects a thing.

Does anyone have facebook? Does it let you contact people? I have found this guy on there, he is the boss of Big Right Promotions (his nickname when he was fighting was 'Big Right', hence the name), the promoter behind Sunday's card in Tanzania.
If someone could contact him to find out the results that would be great.
Here's the thing : https://www.facebook.com/people/Ibrahim-Kamwe/100002317246454

Would point out that it appears the Herman Richard v. Sadat Miyeyusho fight had a change of opponent for Miyeyusho -- some guy called Manjori?

Scores updated in a, well, shambolic really, fashion.

Thanks bhb, I appreciate the appreciation.
Still no word on the Duran fight, I will give it to the end of play today and then declare it void if nothing comes through.

Has the final been resolved yet after what seems like weeks after the fights happened?!

I expect many, like you, lost interest when the number 1 seed was surprisingly knocked out.

In honesty, I think I'm already beaten. My confidence is shot and the crowd aren't behind me...
Plus round one was a bit of a mare for me.

You only got the numer 1 seeding due to your eagerness to join in...

I think we both know that's a lie.
Are we going to have another one next season?

Maybe if only the top 8/16 or so of the league qualify for the cup this seeding lark will have some meaning (sorry Sean)...?

Possiblly, I'm still undecided. There's quite a lot of work goes into it, and as has been pointed out it is effectively a guessing competition as the caliber and celebrity status of midweek fighters is so low. Add to that the fact that the Africans are so poor at reporting their results to BoxRec, and that people who are knocked out early lose interest and only come back to have a pop, and I am left wondering whether it is worth it. And I'd have to get another trophy made, paid for out of my own pocket.

Still nothing on the Baez / Ramon encounter, so that fight is now void.
However, there is a delay getting Wednesday's results from Japan, hopefully they will be in soon otherwise this could descend into farce.

I'm not sure the fans will enjoy another 60 week season of endless waiting for some random 4 rounder in Bashishitu to come in.

The good thing about the competition is that everyone takes it in good spirits and doesn't have a tantrum if they get embarrasingly destroyed in the first round.

Still no news from Tokyo, this is a crushingly disappointing way to end this competition.
