Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
First topic message reminder :
Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather Is Coming To Primetime
WBC Welterweight Title
When: 17th September Live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas
What: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Victor Ortiz
Where: All on Primetime: Sky channel 480, Virgin Media ‘On Demand’ and online at Primetime Website
Primetime’s Summer of Championship boxing continues this September with the world’s biggest boxing name headlining an action packed card of title fights from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Following on from the dramatic unification fight between Amir Khan and Zab Judah, Primetime returns to Las Vegas for the most anticipated fight card of the year!
Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather has long been regarded as the pound for pound greatest fighter in the world today. With 10 world titles to his name in 5 weight divisions, including the lineal championship in both the Lightweight and Welterweight divisions, his no.1 pound for pound status has only been challenged by his recent inactivity in the ring.
Mayweather turned professional at 19 following a controversial semi final defeat in the Atlanta Olympics and has fought 41 times in the professional ranks, winning all 41 bouts with 25 wins coming by way of KO. His record includes a string of famous names such as Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez and ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosely.
After Amir Khan’s decisive victory over Zab Judah, shown exclusively on Primetime, Golden Boy Promotions have publicly stated their desire to have their British charge face Mayweather Jr in a marquee event late in 2012. Mayweather has long pronounced his affection for British boxing fans and has stated his desire to fight in the famous Wembley stadium for his British fans in what would likely be a record breaking British boxing event. Before that he first has to shake off the ring rust and get past a dangerous ‘Vicious’ Victor Ortiz.
‘Vicious’ Victor Ortiz poses a big threat to Mayweather’s unbeaten record, in previous fights Mayweather has struggled to work out strong south paws and was troubled by De La Hoya’s strong left hand. Coupled with a 16 month layoff Ortiz has a golden opportunity to end Mayweather’s unbeaten streak and claim a famous victory.
Ortiz is coming off a dramatic victory to claim the WBC Welterweight title from the previously undefeated Andre Berto in a bout that is already a fight of the year contender. Ortiz has a crowd pleasing, aggressive South Paw style and has the distinction of having sent every opponent he has faced to the canvas at some point in his fights.
Despite being right handed, Ortiz fights in a south paw stance giving him genuine knock out power in both hands that has lead him to titles in both the Light Welterweight and Welterweight divisions. He also brings a 10 year age advantage to the ring against ‘Money’ Mayweather as he looks to firmly establish himself in the pound for pound rankings.
This mouth watering main event is backed up by an unrivalled undercard featuring another 2 World title fights. Mexican sensation Saul Alvarez will be defending his WBC Light Middleweight title against Alfonso Gomez live from the Staples Centre in Los Angeles and Erik Morales aims to add another world title to his record of 7 titles in 5 weight classes by capturing the vacant WBC Light Welterweight title against Lucas Matthyse. Also fighting on the Pay Per View are unbeaten Light Welterweight Jessie Vargas and Josesito Lopez making this the boxing event of the year!
British fighter Anthony Crolla will be fighting the Mexican Pipino Cuevas Jr in a contest to be shown Free To View on Primetime in the lead in to the Pay Per View broadcast.
Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather vs ‘Vicious’ Victor Ortiz promises to be the best value Pay Per View event of the year and you can catch all the action exclusively on Primetime!
You can order the card for only £14.95 by calling 08712004444*, visiting Primetime Website or Virgin Media customers can purchase using the ‘On Demand’ menu. Customers on Sky must register the first time they use Primetime and once registered can purchase using the ‘box office’ menu.

Sorry Jeff but that is absolute tripe. There is one thread, and Primetime are obviously going to want to advertise the fight. D4 changed all sorts of subjects to involve Manny/Floyd. If you consider that spamming, then you are sadly misinformed.

I thought spamming was slapping someone hard on the forehead when they weren't expecting it?

Where is my ad for the sexy Russian brides? My current wife is somewhat orally challenged and I am on the lookout for a new one to keep in my basement. I promise to by her a nice collar and chain with a matching food bowl.

Mate has a russian piece he found on the interweb. Massive milkers, filthy as muck and actually quite a nice bird. I'll have to ask him how much she cost.

It's also three weeks away from the fight, lets see if we only get one thread and all the claims made remain even handed and accurate, if so I stand corrected and will apologise unreservedly.

Jeff, hyping a fight is not new to Primetime, Sky do it ALL THE TIME. Haye vs Harrison, anyone? A lot of people fell for it, and will continue to do so, therefore hype is essential in selling a fight.
Like I said yesterday, before you're willing to slag them off for advertising here and hyping the fight up, maybe you should wait to and see that this isn't as one sided a thing as many of you think.

Sky don't do it on here though.

Re: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
Fists Sky don't do it on here though with such pearls of wisdom as the fact that someone on the payroll for the company believes it will be a good fight as was the case in the run up to the Khan fight, as if anyone was expecting someone in that position was ever likely to come out and say the fight will stink the place out.
I bought the Khan fight and in all probability will buy this one, but my decision will be based on whether I am busy that night and what I think of the match up, the utterly predictable views of Jim Razzmatazz will have no impact on my decision to purchase, and no amount of free T shirts will change that.

Fair enough. Can you now answer my question about a possible link up with Red Hot 50+? You could, for example, offer a similar competiton to Primetime where the best report won a T-Shirt (even if the entry was submitted after the closing time). In this case though the winner gets a date with Eileen, Margaret or Barbara (or if it's really good all 3!)?

Re: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
What is your point? This is a boxing forum, where boxing fans can be found (though you wouldn't think it judging by the garbage most of you serve up these days), and as such seems like a rather good place to advertise.
Primetime haven't been over the top with their advertising here, there is one thread, and as such I fail to see what problem it causes to you.
I bet if Sky gave you the chance to watch one of their PPV's for free you wouldn't mind, would you?

Not at all, Tino, very factually correct actually. A quick browse of the 'deleted' archives are more than enough to prove that.
Re: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
I think the gripe people have with the primetime thread/s is that it really is just a bit of free advertising. As someone's already mentioned on prior occasions; there was no primetime presence after the Khan fight. No feedback thread, just a conspicuous absence until the next fight which needed publicizing. Engaging with the fans means before AND after the event.

Union, I just want to see a boxing forum that talks about boxing. There are so few boxing articles created these days that are worth bothering with, because invariably they always descend into off topic nonsense. A lot of the work put in behind the scenes by the mods and admins is to attract new members to this forum, and do you really think anyone will want to join if that kind of thing is all they see?
Re: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
This is our forum, without us members it would be nothing, if we want to occasionally talk garbage then that is our perogative.

Well talk it in the off topic section then, and leave this area to people that know something about boxing. That'd be the best solution.

The thing to remember though is that the 'off-topic nonsense' is what builds the sense of a community. If this place was just a Q&A forum it'd be boring and desolate.

Yes it does, I agree with you, but why does it have to be done on every single topic - quite often ruining very good ones. All things are needed in moderation, Balti, but as it stands it is about 90/10 split between nonsense and boxing talk, the balance could do with being redressed somewhat.

Have you been watching SkyNews and the Libyan uprisals and fancy a bit of the same on 606?
Don't blame you..... Has got all a bit boring around here where the merest mention of arris's has been met with the iron fist up said arris.
Anyway, where does it say Primetime is going to give me a free PPV login (via PM i'd modestly assume) to stream it online?!

The one problem this site has had since I joined is certain posters can get away with saying things other posters won't get away with. A bit of a BBC606 old pals act in certain cases.

Re: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
You clearly do know a fair bit about boxing Union, as do many others on here, and as such wouldn't you, as an individual, like to engage in slightly more serious boxing talk than there currently is?
Banter/having a laugh is great, and I find most of it hilarious, but that shouldn't be at the expense of boxing debate, it should accompany it. I just feel that the balance between the two is horribly out of late.

See I disagree there, Scott. Sometimes that is the case but often it happens whilst there is still life in the thread and then a few individuals take it and run with it, therefore spoiling the opportunity for anyone else that wanted to contribute toward the OP.
Re: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
Thread is locked for 5 minutes whilst I type up a response when it will be reopened.
Re: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
This thread has descended into farce. Thats the first thing I want to say.
Now for some random thoughts on the whole situation on here.
I completely agree. Both Fists and Windy have done their best to get you all to comply with the site rules. They have leant over backwards to stop people getting bans on here, against the better judgment of the other admins. And what thanks have they got for their efforts to help you?
I will tell you - threads that descend into bickering, abuse and just general nonsense.
Incorrect. This forum is maintained by the admin and moderation team for the benefit of the members. They make the rules and give you all a place to chat about things within site rules. It is not "our"[members] forum.
It is completely your prerogative to vote with your feet. And if you dont like this cold hard fact, then I suggest that you do indeed vote with your feet.
The mod/admin teams are working tirelessly to make this a sport forum in the main. Many good posters have left due to the crap that happens on here. We have been turned down by respected sports reporters due to the nonsense that has appeared on some threads (much to Windy and Fists disappointment).
And dont try and convince yourself that you are engaging in banter. Its far from that. Last night someone quite rightly took offence at the Paraolympic article and was met with abuse from a member who was laughing at the subject.
We have received numerous PM's from members who have left due to the childishness on this section.
Other sections are busier than here due to a mutual respect for new and current members. And the "banter" on there is pleasant and lighthearted.
The last 2 events put on by PT, free streams were given away. WE also have numerous free streams to give away for this fight. And to be quite honest, this amazes me that they are giving us them.
A few home truths now. For all the complaining about stream quality, not one person streamed the fight through our affiliate programme. However, you all seem to be experts in the quality of the broadcast or lack of).
Now granted some of you will have paid through your tv box (thanks by the way for ignoring our requests to pay through the website), however, when questioned the next day, quite a few of you embarrassed yourselves by claiming you ordered through the site.
The reality is that since the Froch fights, the quality has improved immensely. The free streams we gave away for the Alex Reid fight were complimented for their quality of stream.
However, its far more easy to complain about something you have ILLEGALLY streamed.
Unfortunately, some of you are unable to read. On numerous times, it was stated that Primetime was on holiday.
All in all, I am disgusted with the way that some of you have treated not only your admin/ moderation team, who dont get paid to do this and who dont get any thanks for bending over backwards to save your skins but also the guests/ partners we have invited on to these boards. If some of you actually paid to see the fights and didnt stream them, then maybe we wouldnt need to be putting in adverts.
There is nothing wrong with objecting to paying to a PPV. Hell, I wouldnt pay for half of the stuff that is on PPV these days but the personal insults and lies that have been told on here are disgraceful.
Both Windy, Fists and Primetime deserve better than the abuse they get.
If any of you have problems, you can contact me via PM.
I now have to go and talk to Primetime about the free streams they have offered and whether we are going to give them out to, quite frankly, an undeserving audience.
Now for some random thoughts on the whole situation on here.
1. The one problem this site has had since I joined is certain posters can get away with saying things other posters won't get away with. A bit of a BBC606 old pals act in certain cases.
2.
This is our forum, without us members it would be nothing, if we want to occasionally talk garbage then that is our perogative.

3.I bet if Sky gave you the chance to watch one of their PPV's for free you wouldn't mind, would you?
Where has Primetime said they'd give away free PPVs for everyone?

4. I think the gripe people have with the primetime thread/s is that it really is just a bit of free advertising. As someone's already mentioned on prior occasions; there was no primetime presence after the Khan fight. No feedback thread, just a conspicuous absence until the next fight which needed publicizing. Engaging with the fans means before AND after the event

Can you not read? Primetime was on holiday almost immediately after the Khan fight for two weeks, I think the moment had passed by the time he returned.

A poor time to go on holiday considering how much they hyped the fight on here. Would they not be able to get someone to answer a few questions after the fight? After all our £15 goes toward his wages.

Primetime is a company, not a person. Why not have another member of the company engage with the fans after the fight. He/she/it spammed the boards for weeks with repetitive guff before the fight only to disappear once it had happened. No doubt the board will be subjected to the same hyperbole (unrivalled undercard etc....) for the next few weeks only for him to disappear in a way Hudini would be proud of.
Some members of the admin team would do well to calm their attitudes down.

Genuine question Hobo, would doing so have improved the quality of the picture if so will bear that in mind for the future if not I fail to see how the two points are related.

That's simply not true though. He posted MMA stuff throughout the following week. Enough time to write a thread.
Your attitdue is pretty confrontational at the moment Fists. Sorry to say that, but it is true.

Of course it didnt. Why would they give a superior quality product to the minority.... Although with the way the show is presented I would not be too surprised if this kind of logic was used.

I never streamed it I watched it on TV and found the picture quality pretty poor compared to the standard definition Sky Sports channels. Also for £15 would a HD broadcast be to much to ask for?

Seeing as I obviously can read I somewhat resent the insinuation made by your fellow admin to the contrary. Primetime is not on holiday now, as evinced by his latest thread. Interaction with a demographic works best when it's reciprocal. Why is one of the admin allowed to repeatedly make snide, immature comments of a derogatory nature, about the people who use this site? People have been banned for far less, and I find it insulting.

Likewise Kev I watched it on TV but thought when they referred to the stream they were referring to the picture quality through TV, given most of us have TVs nowadays and some form of satellite/cable TV would assume the number watching through the computer is relatively small

The point I was making Rowley, is that although it was asked on numerous occasions to do it through the site, not one person did.
I therefore can conclude that either you have all taken your usual stance of rebelling against anything which is asked of you or no one actually paid legally for the fight.
As I said, I asked the next day, and I had several admissions of paying through the link.
There is a core membership on here that is similar to the actions during the recent riots. What started off as a genuine gripe has been hijacked by people who just want to cause trouble for the sake of it.
If any of you were genuinely interested in growing this forum and helping, you would have ordered through the link. The fact that not one person did speaks volumes.
I actually cant wait for your next comment aimed at me LJ. Please make it soon, as I want to go for lunch

People will do things they would not ordinarily do when they know they can get away with it. Same applies hear I think.
