Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
First topic message reminder :
Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather Is Coming To Primetime
WBC Welterweight Title
When: 17th September Live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas
What: Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Victor Ortiz
Where: All on Primetime: Sky channel 480, Virgin Media ‘On Demand’ and online at Primetime Website
Primetime’s Summer of Championship boxing continues this September with the world’s biggest boxing name headlining an action packed card of title fights from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Following on from the dramatic unification fight between Amir Khan and Zab Judah, Primetime returns to Las Vegas for the most anticipated fight card of the year!
Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather has long been regarded as the pound for pound greatest fighter in the world today. With 10 world titles to his name in 5 weight divisions, including the lineal championship in both the Lightweight and Welterweight divisions, his no.1 pound for pound status has only been challenged by his recent inactivity in the ring.
Mayweather turned professional at 19 following a controversial semi final defeat in the Atlanta Olympics and has fought 41 times in the professional ranks, winning all 41 bouts with 25 wins coming by way of KO. His record includes a string of famous names such as Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez and ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosely.
After Amir Khan’s decisive victory over Zab Judah, shown exclusively on Primetime, Golden Boy Promotions have publicly stated their desire to have their British charge face Mayweather Jr in a marquee event late in 2012. Mayweather has long pronounced his affection for British boxing fans and has stated his desire to fight in the famous Wembley stadium for his British fans in what would likely be a record breaking British boxing event. Before that he first has to shake off the ring rust and get past a dangerous ‘Vicious’ Victor Ortiz.
‘Vicious’ Victor Ortiz poses a big threat to Mayweather’s unbeaten record, in previous fights Mayweather has struggled to work out strong south paws and was troubled by De La Hoya’s strong left hand. Coupled with a 16 month layoff Ortiz has a golden opportunity to end Mayweather’s unbeaten streak and claim a famous victory.
Ortiz is coming off a dramatic victory to claim the WBC Welterweight title from the previously undefeated Andre Berto in a bout that is already a fight of the year contender. Ortiz has a crowd pleasing, aggressive South Paw style and has the distinction of having sent every opponent he has faced to the canvas at some point in his fights.
Despite being right handed, Ortiz fights in a south paw stance giving him genuine knock out power in both hands that has lead him to titles in both the Light Welterweight and Welterweight divisions. He also brings a 10 year age advantage to the ring against ‘Money’ Mayweather as he looks to firmly establish himself in the pound for pound rankings.
This mouth watering main event is backed up by an unrivalled undercard featuring another 2 World title fights. Mexican sensation Saul Alvarez will be defending his WBC Light Middleweight title against Alfonso Gomez live from the Staples Centre in Los Angeles and Erik Morales aims to add another world title to his record of 7 titles in 5 weight classes by capturing the vacant WBC Light Welterweight title against Lucas Matthyse. Also fighting on the Pay Per View are unbeaten Light Welterweight Jessie Vargas and Josesito Lopez making this the boxing event of the year!
British fighter Anthony Crolla will be fighting the Mexican Pipino Cuevas Jr in a contest to be shown Free To View on Primetime in the lead in to the Pay Per View broadcast.
Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather vs ‘Vicious’ Victor Ortiz promises to be the best value Pay Per View event of the year and you can catch all the action exclusively on Primetime!
You can order the card for only £14.95 by calling 08712004444*, visiting Primetime Website or Virgin Media customers can purchase using the ‘On Demand’ menu. Customers on Sky must register the first time they use Primetime and once registered can purchase using the ‘box office’ menu.

That's simply not true though. He posted MMA stuff throughout the following week. Enough time to write a thread.
Your attitdue is pretty confrontational at the moment Fists. Sorry to say that, but it is true.
Yes it is confrontational Tino, and for very good reason. I, along with the likes of Windy and Hobo, spend a hell of a lot of my spare time chasing up potential ways of improving this forum, and likewise a lot of time in trying to attract new members through various means.
I have been told by several guests to this forum that they find it a great place to talk boxing, and a welcome break from the garbage that they find on forums such as Eastside. Do you think that they would make the same comment had they visited in the last couple of weeks? Not a chance. It is the brattish behaviour of many on here that gets up my nose, and given that I give my time for free, I'd at the very least expect the co-operation of members in making the forum a better place.

I therefore can conclude that either you have all taken your usual stance of rebelling against anything which is asked of you or no one actually paid legally for the fight.
As I said, I asked the next day, and I had several admissions of paying through the link.
There is a core membership on here that is similar to the actions during the recent riots. What started off as a genuine gripe has been hijacked by people who just want to cause trouble for the sake of it.
If any of you were genuinely interested in growing this forum and helping, you would have ordered through the link. The fact that not one person did speaks volumes. Some members of the admin team would do well to calm their attitudes down.
I actually cant wait for your next comment aimed at me LJ. Please make it soon, as I want to go for lunch

As another member of the moderation team has suggested, if you don't like it you can walk with your feet. Surely the same applies here, Fists?

I never used the link as I was already a primetime customer and have been since they first broadcast boxing and have ordered every event they have broadcast.
Insinuating that guys like us would illegally stream a fight is slander and highly offensive.

Well I can only comment for myself but I paid for it perfectly legally but did it through the TV and said so at the time, have to say as well I will do exactly the same for this fight, my reasons are simple, firstly its extremely easy and secondly from what I can gather the reason you want people to do so through the link is to measure the effectiveness of Primetime's threads on here, may be the wrong attitude but the former is far more important to me than the latter as I genuinely could not care less if Primetime chooses to promote his fights through here as nothing he says will influence my decision to buy or not, which will be made through my schedule and analysis of whether the fight justifies it. If this puts my chances of securing a free t shirt at risk that is just a gauntlet I am willing to run.

Another one who cant read.
By buying through the link, we receive a very small percentage. This goes towards the ad removal.
Nothing to do with the effectiveness of the campaign.

Fine, Fists, but it works both ways. With all due respect, you haven't addressed my issue regarding no follow up thread. He was clearly active on the site for the entire week following the fight. Why not engage with us then? Respect is a two way thing.
For the record, I doubt anyone has a problem with either you, Windy or Hobo (well, maybe Jack does) and most of us are grateful for the work put in, but we have genuine issues regarding the poster in question. You seem like an intelligent chap and I imagine you can see the point I am making. In any walk of life, I would take issue with a salesman selling me something and then offering no feedback afterwards if they had offered to engage with me.

The people in primetimes commercial department would be looking at it though to see if it was a worthwhile avenue to promote fights through or not because whoever is putting articles on the site will be getting payed so they would need to know if it's worthwhile. So technically they would use it to judge the effectiveness of the campaign. Maybe not on a one fight basis but maybe over 2 or 3 events.

If Primetime (the company) were to advertise on here, that would contribute to the upkeep and maintenance of this site. It wouldn't remove the advertisements, but it would be infinitely more work-friendly than Russian brides. Why there is a constant need for underhand insults backed by the thinly-veiled threat of banishment is beyond me.

Guys, more so Hobo - How much does the hosting cost? And what kind of package are you on? Because 123 and many others will give you unlimited web space for around £4-6 per month or so. I should know as i have to upload humungous (technical term) sites every week.
And i don't see why we're not selling ad space to Primetime? I mean we could go the whole hog and approach them so they cover all hosting/domain name costs etc for the year and it's branded as "606v2 sponsored by Primetime"?!
And apologies for missing the "Alex Reid free PPV" offer - i don't go onto forums where the main discussion is about grown men rolling around in speedos generally dry humping the brown stuff out of each other.

Nice, however if you want to question other folks education you may want to proof read, it's can't not cant. I did not hurl any insults and would not do so but am more than happy to be as petty as anyone else if that is how things are going to be.

Re: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
quick question.
If you were primetime and you saw the following three threads, would you sponsor it:
1. Who would win in a fight between a one armed man and a one legged man
2.a g@y fergal sharkey tribute act thread
3. Numerous threads where primetime are being insulted.
Second question, do you think that labelling participants of mma is within site rules. Any further comments of a homophobic nature will be met with sanctions.

Re: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
You guys moan about Primetime spamming the boards yet in the same respect then moan because they didn't put up an article afterwards and now say why don't they advertise on the banner.
Seriously guys, I pay for this forum, when the Beeb annouced it was shutting I took it upon myself to get off my ass and try and keep everyone together, did any of you? I asked people who were knowledgable and respected in their sports to moderate and become admins, we go out of our way to do modding often at the berefit of being able to actually join in on debates we wanted, contact people that may be of interest to you, companies that might have deals for you, yet what do we get back?
Sometimes you really make me wonder why I bothered making this place.

Was that directed at me? It's a common boxing fans perception that we don't particularly get grown men rolling around in tights appealing, and yes it does look like a dodgy sex act.

No idea. Have you been plotting a rebellion behind the admins' backs?

Kev, how do you expect an answer if he isn't online, or hasn't seen your question yet?

Re: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather is coming to Primetime!
Coxy, appreciate your comment regarding hosting of the site.
In that it is down to my error unfortunately. I'd had dealings with forumotion over the years on smaller forums so when I paid for the site ad removal it was what I expected, when it came to renew it though due to the size of the site now its ballooned.
We could look at moving it elsewhere but then we have to look at how do we get x number of people to move and how do we move the content. Any assistance on that would be appreciated!

I take your point with regard to the feedback, I didn't realise Primetime was active that week, and the idea of a feedback thread is something that I will discuss with Primetime. I think it is a good idea, and I'm sure they'll be happy to do that. So on that note, I'll keep you posted.[/quote]
I think that is a fair response and hopefully will be enough to stop the aggro coming from certain members of the forum. I personally don't have an issue with Primetime announcing/advertising/whatever their cards on here. It is still my choice to purchase said card to watch. If I allow myself to get hyped into paying for a blatently disappointing night of fighting (and I have done by my own admission) then more fool me - go away and learn from it.
If Primetime is willing to set up a feedback thread then great - just hope that posters have the sense to not turn it into a slagging match.
Can't help but feel that people are just arguing for arguings sake. It's a shame - there rae people on here with amazing boxing knowledge. I don't know a fraction of what some of you do, and enjoy just reading some of the threads to get my knowledge up. Let's not turn what is a great site into another crap filled forum.

Paralympic boxing is a new low for this site.
Really? What about other paralympic sports though? Are they banned too?

I never knew he wasn't on-line I thought he may just be sitting back reading the posts and laughing. Their is only me asking any sort of primetime related question so I thought I would give it another go. It's a fair question and as a big fan of the lower weight divisions is something I would like to know.

Jack, thank you very much, finally a sense filled post, and you have hit the nail on the head. If you don't like it, don't comment on it, or at least have the decency to do so in a respectful manner.

Boxing is a combat sport that people with disabilities aren't allowed to complete in for medical reasons. They would need to be physically fine so their problem would be a type of mental disorder which you can't let guys get in the ring with.

Hopefully Primetime will get back to you when he sees it, Kev, because there is certainly a hole in the market with regard to the lower weight classes, and as such we miss out on some cracking fights.

Hazard a guess, there's probably one database and one settings.php file which contains the connection data (username, host, password etc) to the database. Would be a case of simply lifting everything from the server and exporting the database to your local machine, and then re-uploading to a new host and then uploading the database and changing the database url in the settings.php file.

But the whole point of the paralymics is inclusion. If someone lost their leg but is otherwise 100% healthy, I don't see the problem. There's been a guy with no arms or legs who had a go at MMA.

Not sure if that was aimed at me or not, but I wouldn't call my polite and genuine requests, "aggro". For the record, I am happy with Fists response, and agree it was fair.
I completely disagree that people are arguing for the sake of it. Some maybe are, but many posters have raised genuine issues. Can't speak for anyone else, but I have four kids at home and really can't be bothered to argue on here for the sake of it. Have enough of that when I get in.
Now, where the hell has my PM function gone?
I demand an answer. Now. You wouldn't want to see me angry. I would make Coxy look like David Furnish.

Let me look into it, Tino, and I'll also get back to you once I've had a chat with Primetime regarding feedback.

We miss out on a lot of cracking fights over here especially in the lower weight classes. I understand their is something special about a big heavyweight fight for some but we haven't had a good one in a long time. I would love to see more of the smaller guys and less of the K bro's. Like I said on another thread Segura especially is great value for money.

No not specifically aimed at you Tino - just reading through the thread and feeling of banging head against brick wall is overwhelming. Simply feel that the regular and more knowledgeble posters should get back to doing what they do best and start posting about boxing rather than getting riled because of an article that is promoting a boxing event.

I think now that everyone has calmed down this thread should be locked and allowed to drop down the front page, we don't want potential new members seeing us behaving like this do we.
