Wade from what I have seen of him is a faster version of Varndell when he started out... I.e he hates balls in the air and he cant defend!

Big win for Worcester. Can see Sale fighting it out with us and Worcester for relegation.

Wasps have totally turned this round, playing really well. If they can just keep it out of the scrum. Wade is electric but basics are in serious need of work

Like I said mate Wade is vey similar to Varndell when he 1st came onto the scene. Fantastic athlete but not much in terms of rugby skills yet.
There was alot of new signings in that Sale side today. Will be very disjointed for the first month or so.
Think Worcester could do well. They have alot of very experienced players who know what has to be done at this level. Could do very well in the wet

Good to see Andy Goode going well today! He gets a rough time but is a pretty good club level flyhalf! Always near the top of the scoring charts where ever he goes and great for a forward based game

Sale won't be near relegation this year I don't think.
Sheridan, Buckley, Levaravu, Ostrikov, Vernon, Powell, Leota, Lavea, Cueto all away at world cup. will be strong when they return. No Fourie today either

Forgot about Fourie, he'll be big for them. The rest don't really inspire much. Buckley...a prop who can't scrummage, Vernon isn't up to much, I'd have him a similar level to Hogg. Lack of a decent 10 could be the big difference for Sale. They've made a lot of average signings like the Falcons.

Great finish Varndell. How can he finish like that and not have more caps! Looks just like Gear in full flow, just goes missing most of the game. If only he had a brain he'd be great!

Fantastic performance Wasps, deserved win. Wentzel has really sorted lineout out. Scrum was awful but defended really well.
Launchbury played well at 6 and Poff was decent. Matthews looks a tidy SH, better pass than Simpson. Bell was excellent.
Sarries just looked off 1-15. Got to start Hodgson imo

Sarries looked very rusty from what I saw. Strettle made a few breaks and looked decent so Im happy though!
Poff man of the match and Wentzel has made a massive difference to that Wasps side. Wasps midfield showed good hands at different times. On Davies his service looks ok but decision making isnt there yet. Some stupid bits of play at time but grew into the game

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
So who thought Wasps were going to lose today... :-) Never in doubt, even when the scrum decided to lose 5 of its own scrums! Is it Payne and Broster the problem? Think the scrum will change when Filipo starts, big lump.
They've made the best signings from any AP team this season - Robinson is class, we've missed a controlling 10 since Alex King retired. Poff looks very good, haven't had a 7 for years with Rees always injured. Thought the ref was really harsh on him at the breakdown. Southwall also impressed me, could be exactly what Varndell and Wade need - both try machines!
Wade has better basics than Varndell and a lot more heart in the tackle area, incredibly quick - always thought his size could be the thing that goes against him, still could, but he looked pretty good today. Varndell would be an England int. if he could defend properly or went looking for the ball like AShton does. He just stays on the wing, maybe lack of rugby brains.
Think it was a huge, huge mistake not to take Flutey to the WC - offers so much more than Hape does. Bell put in some monster hits - surprised no one has him in the game?
If you stop Sarries getting penalties then you can beat them, as they very rarely score tries - could change with Hodgson - but the midfield is so one dimensional and Goode has stopped developing, thought he was an England prospect...

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Pooly do you think Varndell could get back into the England team? He's such a good finisher, not sure many people can catch him once he gets going. Wish he came off his wing though, could be so dangerous if he supported the midfield runners.
Think Cueto will be replaced post WC as his speed has gone, and just doesnt look like scoring. Who is up there to replace him?
Guess you have Sharples, Monye, Simpson Daniel, Banahan - really hope it isnt Banahan, think he's awful...

Didnt think Wades basics were great at all Chris mate. Hes a fantastic athlete but needs to work on his basics. Quite impressed with Poff looks a great signing considering how Rees has gone again
Think Sharples is the best bet currently for the ENgland wing spot but theres plenty of cracking youngsters around and who knows where they will be come the end of the season

For me cueto needs replacing now. Carlton palmer of rugby. Similar to Tim payne. Nobody knows why he is in the team but is. To be fair too coaches know a lot more than us.
Chris I have stated many times throughout the years that broster is the worst tighthead seen at Prem level. His agent touted him to cinderford and several nd1 teams in the summer and there were zero takers. Wasps obviously had some options fall through hence kept hon

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
SJE - wouldnt base judgement on Wade in that game, his positional play is very good for a 20 year old and has a good offloading game. Think for a wing he has the basics he needs, just worry that his size is going to stop him developing.
Poff was very good, espc as he only landed in England last week and has had 3 training sessions. Think it shows how important an out and out 7 is - its a shame that Rees was injured as Poff was over here to play at 8 originally.
Heard Worsely is going to announce his retirement, got a pretty serious neck injury from the sounds of it.
Some big results today, Exeter and Worcestor both winning - if you get to watch a Worcestor game keep an eye of Jake Abbott playing at 7 - he's about 23/24 and would imagine that he'll be at a club like Leicester, Bath within 12 months.

First League Table of the season...
Fantasy Aviva Premiership Homepage
League Placings
In the case of equality at any stage of the Season, positions at that stage of the season shall be determined firstly by the number of wins achieved and then on the basis of match points differential. A Club with a larger number of wins shall be placed higher than a Club with the same number of league points but fewer wins.
If Clubs have equal league points and equal number of wins then a Club with a larger difference between match points "for" and match points "against" shall be placed higher in the Premiership League than a Club with a smaller difference between match points "for" and match points "against".
Should two Clubs have the same number of league points and the same match points difference, the Club having scored more match points "for" shall be placed higher in the Premiership League than the Club having the lesser number of match points "for".
If the above does not establish different Premiership League positions then the Club in the higher position shall be the Club that has achieved the higher aggregate match points scored by it in the same season against the other Club.
If this still does not establish the position then the Club who has won the most matches, excluding its first Premiership League match of the season, then its second Premiership League match and so on, until it can be established which the higher placed Club is.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Something still doesn't right with Falcons at the top!
Think Vernon is pretty average Steve, Scotland will really suffer if he's their best 8.
Varndell will never make it, he's too thick I think. Just stands on the wing all game.
"For me cueto needs replacing now. Carlton palmer of rugby. Similar to Tim payne. Nobody knows why he is in the team but is. To be fair too coaches know a lot more than us."
That's pretty funny, think we've carried Cueto for a season too long. Pity they didn't take a punt on Sharples earlier. Banahan is no Int winger!

He's definitely a better lock - not sure how much game time he will get there though, Wentzel, Birkett, Filipo - think he's going to be used as a 6 a lot to get exp this season.
You think Newcastle will go down this season? Exeter and Worcestor both look very good, both got shrewd buys and their packs are strong. Cant see Newcastle winning many? - have to pick up a lot of their points during the WC period...

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
We've made a few under the radar signings which could go well. Backrow and centres were very poor last season. Brought in Shortland(CE/WG), Goosen(FB) Helluer(CE) and a cracking Samoan back rower Tu'uifu.
Sweating on a Uys a big Bok centre signing. Need to gel fast though because we can't play like we did today.
I imagine us, Worcester and Sale will be scrapping it out.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Was going to say you've signed a really good Samoan backrow - didnt know it was Tu'uifu, expecting some massive hits in the AP this season from him now!
Worcester have signed some really good players, and personally think they have one of the best youth systems in the country, which will help them no end. Goode's kicking will keep them above the drop.
Imagine Steven will say that Sale will be pushing for a top 8 spot - they've made some good signings - not sure how quickly they will gel.
All these teams need to pick up points in the next 6 weeks, or its going to be one hell of a long season for them all. Think Wasps could be a top 4 team this year - but need to win most of their games during the WC - Dai Young a very good coach.

Not sure about Sales signing at all. Buckley is a terrible TH esp in the prem where scrums are so key.
TH and FH is key positions, we have Murray and Gopperth, just the players that around are pump!
Corne Uys is a real star though, will really give our backline a bit of Fizz. We've been playing Eves or Fitz at 13 and they're at best Champ players. Uys looks a class act:

Amusingly when drunk we always text her random black athlete names. My favourite was when I realised I had sent her a text with John Regis and Derek Redmond on it.
Varndell went to colstons and played 10s pre season for a club I coached, quick is not the word
Uys is a talent Gloucester were trying to get him. We have no money but lots of talent

Sheridan will need to stay fit for the season for Sale. Dickinson and Buckley is a prety shambolic looking scrum. I know Imolek and Thomas have plenty of potential and have put in some pretty good shifts at times but are still pretty incosistant which you would expect considering their ages.

Am watching the Bulls vs. Sharks game from earlier, and how Werner Kruger got near a Springbok jersey is beyond me. His scrummaging makes Tony Buckley look like a world beater.
