Watching Bath v Saracens, James Short showing how he is lethal but still making mistakes. If he irons out some of these mistakes then he will have a good shot at international honours. Fearns putting in some work at 7 and Caldwell looking impressive.

Good player Fearns, not quite sure where his best position is though.

He just needs to nail a position and really go for it, would like to see him shine for the Saxons too. Be good for him playing at Bath.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
What did people make of Bryce Lawrence's officiating during the England game? It was so obvious that the southern hem and northern hem play different games and its officiated differently.
Personally thought he was awful and ruined the game.
Steven do you reckon Fearns will get into the England sqd by 6Nations? I'm not so sure, he hasn't quite got there for me yet - very good player, but needs to just be played in one position and allowed to improve.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Chris, I reckon Fearns will be there or there abouts. I reckon Moody and Easter might be phased out and Haskell shouldn't be picked in Japan. See him as the obvious choice as Eng's next 8 tbh. Had two storming games with Bath and playing the back row with Louw and Moody will help him develop.
A back row of Croft , Fearns and Fourie could be pretty handy post WC. Not expecting to many huge changes though.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Think we need to immediately play youngsters and give them gametime, we made the mistake of not doing this post 2003 and post 2007 and it leaves us frantically giving young players games 6 months before the WC.
Think Johnson has to be bold straight away and pick players for 2015, which is what we have to aim to win, as have so many youngsters coming through.
I'd find 4-5 young forwards and pick them in every England squad to give them experience and gradually phase them in over 2-3 seasons - I'd get Launchbury, Kvesvic in straight away (not to play of course!), would make sure Attwood replaces Shaw and then replace guys like Wilson and Payne from the EPS with Marler, Mullan and other young props who need exposure to what international rugby is all about.
Personally still think Johnson is the wrong man at the head of England, dont think he understands tactics properly, particularly in the backline - he seems to think rugby is won in the forwards, but these days its all about speed of attack - just look at the Aussies!

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Can't see any young forwards jumping in as its simply too physical and intense. I agree that players like Mullan, Gaskell, Attwood and Fearns in there now and let the likes of Kvesic, launchbury and others get some AP game times. You have to be first choice at your club before you get a look in for England in my view.
Good players coming through though. young lad called Luke Wallace got MoM for Quins on Friday night. he was like a duracel bunny.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Steven, I;d get them involved in the ENgland set up though. If you can ear mark the best of the youngsters and just get them involved in the ENgland set up just to show them what it takes to be the best.
Do you think Gaskell will make it?
Like the look of Saints new 7. he's very good - as mad as Moody but a top talent from the looks of it. No idea where he came from, as usually quite good at keeping up to date with the youngsters coming through.
Calum Clark is getting good reviews at the moment too, couple tipping him for full England honours by 6Nations.

Re: Fantasy Aviva Premiership season 4
Gaskell needs to get strong. He is unbelievable at 6 at times, he is so good at turnovers for a man his size and you don't often see him go backwards in contract. Also scores a lot of tries and has gas. He offers so much more than your average lock.
Chris, Nutley was totally outplayed by Wallace on Friday night. never even heard of Wallace except that he was in my academy.

Is he playing lock now?
Thing is I think a lot of players will play well one week, then struggle the next - is he 18? Did so much work when I watched the first Saints game.

Gaskell is a lock by trade, playing at 6. i don't think he will get into the sale side as a back row when vernon, powell fourie are back/ fit. Especially with seymour there as well

Lawes banned for two games - yet when Quade Cooper knees McCaw in the head he gets nothing. Hmmm, and they say there is no bias at all between northern and southern hemisphere teams...absolute b o ll o c ks.
Could have been worse, I guess but cant see how you ban Lawes and Cooper gets nothing.
