Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
First topic message reminder :
Week Five Results
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week Five Review
The Fights
Only three fights this week, Karl Place's opponent dropped out late on, adding to Danny Williams' withdrawal earlier in the week. In the fights that did happen, Jason Booth learned the lesson that you can't go on for ever, the younger Scott Quigg really did a job on him and his career looks to be over, certainly at super bantamweight. It comes to us all eventually. In the other fights, Donaire earned a shut-out 3 x 120-108 unanimous decision, confirming his lofty P4P ranking, and Marco Huck KO'ed his opponent in 6.
The Premiership
A fantastic week for compelling and rich, who managed to get all three fights spot on, earning himself 12 points, a big jump up the table to finish in 4th place, and of course a Predictor of the Week award.
It was the same old story for Knowsit17, the Prediction League's perennial choker once again failing to hold on to a lead when it matters, a measly 4 points drops him to a 3rd place finish. Second place went to sodhat, a case of ever the bridesmaid never the bride for our Prediction Cup runner-up.
Top of the tree though is Eyetoldyouso, our new champion claiming his title with an impressive 10 point haul. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating our new champ.
It's not all happiness and joy though, as alma, Michaels, ian_jamsie, JJJohnson and, believe it or not, Union Cane have all been relegated from the Premiership.
The Championship
School Project becomes the first Championship Champion, a nine point haul this week propelling him to the top. Dass, Jdandfries and 88Chris05 will all join him in next season's Premiership, however there is drama surrounding the fifth promotion place, with 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude tied on 29 points. They can't be separated by the Highest Weekly Score criteria, both having high-scores of 9 points, so a play-off will be required. Details below...
*Update*
The Play-Offs couldn't separate 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude, so given the exceptional circumstances, I have decided that Season 3's Premiership will have 21 places, they are both promoted.

Scoring and Rules
- I will list fights 1 - 5, this list will be definitive, when predicting please list fights in the same order.
- Predict the winner - 1 point
- - Predict the method (KO*/Pts) - 1 point
- - - Predict 'Early' or 'Late' (for KO) / 'Unanimous' or 'Majority/Split' (for Pts) - 1 point
- Get all three above correct - 1 bonus point
- Correctly predicting a draw (be it majority or even technical) will score you 10 points
- Any entries that are subsequently amended will be void.
- If a fight is cancelled, postponed, or if a fighter drops out and is replaced, that fight is then void.
- Each season will be five weeks long.
- There will be promotion and relegation between the two divisions, with the top five in the Championship replacing the bottom five in the Premiership at the end of each season.
- If at the end of the season players are level on points, the player with the highest individual weekly score will take the higher placing.
- Nobody is automatically entered into the Championship, anyone can enter, simply post your predictions to take part, using the format detailed below. You can enter at any point in the season, after all, 5 draws is 50 points which could win promotion in one week.
- If the official result of a fight is changed within one week of the fight having taken place, the new result will be applied. After one week, the result as given will stand.
- Union Cane's decision is final.
Example Entry - Please use this format :
1. Paulie Maglinaggi - KO Early

If you read this in time and if it's ok with Union i'm happy to scrub yesterdays result off so we have an even head to head to decide the play off, would be a hollow victory to go through by default.

Very gracious of you ermietrude.
Given the difficulty of getting results in a timely manner from Japan & China, any objections if we scrap the above fights and use 5 fights from Australia which will be held this coming Friday, so we should get the results Friday afternoon?

Great sportsmanship from Ermitrude. Did think it unfair to punish someone for not posting predictions when he didn’t know he should.

Bless the pair of you!
I've half a mind to chuck Tino out and have you both in the Premiership next season.
Can't do that though, sadly.
The new fights are up, please post your predictions asap.

Why? I really don't understand you, Union. I have supported you through thick and thin on this league. Right from the very start, no exceptions. I could have constantly baited you or complained like Coxy and PBF but no, I have been a fan of your work.
That's all over now, big guy. You can go it alone when the next round of arguing starts.

Does seem harsh from Union, much as it pains me to admit it Tina has been a paragon of virtue and support on this thread.

It was only a joke for heaven's sake.
Rowley my man, you'll know stuff like this. With the fights being in Australia and only 6 or 8 rounders, am I correct in thinking that if a fight goes the distance then the referee would decide the winner, rather than a panel of judges?

I have no idea Union, ask me how decisions were rendered 100 years ago and you've half a chance, you know me and Tina are only jesting, we're your biggest fans.

More than likely, which makes Ermitrude's SD prediction a poor one.

Rowley, how were decisions rendered 100 years ago?
I'll just take 'points' as 'points' then, as there won't be a U or an S.
As an aside, isn't it strange that 'U', a vowel, is preceded by 'a', whereas 'S', a consonant, is preceded by 'an', when normally a vowel is preceded by 'an' and a consonant 'a'.

Agreed. Despite the goading, I am huge fan of Union's work. Still think you are a complete bell end for the road rage incident but as far as the forum goes, you're doing some sterling stuff.
sodhat, don't make me angry. I can make Withering Sack look like a camper version of Russell Grant.

.
Glad you asked Union, normally the club who made and sponsored the fight would appoint the referee or have the chairman of that club stand as referee, sometimes the articles of the fight had it written this had to be agreed by both fighters camps, who could forget the Wyatt Earp incident, and he alone was liable for rendering the decision in the fight. Both parties would agree to the rules in the fight either strict Queensbury rules which allowed for hitting on the break or clean breaks. Although the ref solely scored the fight fights were often scored mainly on aggression or in some of the really early fights on the perception of who would have won had the fight gone to the finish, this is obviously assuming the fight was not to the finish.

Agreed. Despite the goading, I am huge fan of Union's work. Still think you are a complete bell end for the road rage incident but as far as the forum goes, you're doing some sterling stuff.
sodhat, don't make me angry. I can make Withering Sack look like a camper version of Russell Grant.

I'm quickly changing my opinion of him. He is "doing a Michaels" and insulting me all over the place. I think he has taken my comments about his road rage as an affront to his manliness. I imagine Mr Blue Kia Picanto would only have slapped his slightly overweight Grimbarian backside all over the lay-by anyway.

Will someone be kind enough to explain what Scott's spoiler was of, would be nice to know if I need to be offended.

I know who Forrest Whitaker is Tina, he was in the Last King of Scotland and the Shield, I'm a big fan, it was more dizstruxshon that was beyond me, because apart from an offence to the English language I have no idea what that is.
