Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
First topic message reminder :
Week Five Results
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Week Five Review
The Fights
Only three fights this week, Karl Place's opponent dropped out late on, adding to Danny Williams' withdrawal earlier in the week. In the fights that did happen, Jason Booth learned the lesson that you can't go on for ever, the younger Scott Quigg really did a job on him and his career looks to be over, certainly at super bantamweight. It comes to us all eventually. In the other fights, Donaire earned a shut-out 3 x 120-108 unanimous decision, confirming his lofty P4P ranking, and Marco Huck KO'ed his opponent in 6.
The Premiership
A fantastic week for compelling and rich, who managed to get all three fights spot on, earning himself 12 points, a big jump up the table to finish in 4th place, and of course a Predictor of the Week award.
It was the same old story for Knowsit17, the Prediction League's perennial choker once again failing to hold on to a lead when it matters, a measly 4 points drops him to a 3rd place finish. Second place went to sodhat, a case of ever the bridesmaid never the bride for our Prediction Cup runner-up.
Top of the tree though is Eyetoldyouso, our new champion claiming his title with an impressive 10 point haul. I am sure you will all join me in congratulating our new champ.
It's not all happiness and joy though, as alma, Michaels, ian_jamsie, JJJohnson and, believe it or not, Union Cane have all been relegated from the Premiership.
The Championship
School Project becomes the first Championship Champion, a nine point haul this week propelling him to the top. Dass, Jdandfries and 88Chris05 will all join him in next season's Premiership, however there is drama surrounding the fifth promotion place, with 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude tied on 29 points. They can't be separated by the Highest Weekly Score criteria, both having high-scores of 9 points, so a play-off will be required. Details below...
*Update*
The Play-Offs couldn't separate 6oldenbhoy and ermietrude, so given the exceptional circumstances, I have decided that Season 3's Premiership will have 21 places, they are both promoted.

Scoring and Rules
- I will list fights 1 - 5, this list will be definitive, when predicting please list fights in the same order.
- Predict the winner - 1 point
- - Predict the method (KO*/Pts) - 1 point
- - - Predict 'Early' or 'Late' (for KO) / 'Unanimous' or 'Majority/Split' (for Pts) - 1 point
- Get all three above correct - 1 bonus point
- Correctly predicting a draw (be it majority or even technical) will score you 10 points
- Any entries that are subsequently amended will be void.
- If a fight is cancelled, postponed, or if a fighter drops out and is replaced, that fight is then void.
- Each season will be five weeks long.
- There will be promotion and relegation between the two divisions, with the top five in the Championship replacing the bottom five in the Premiership at the end of each season.
- If at the end of the season players are level on points, the player with the highest individual weekly score will take the higher placing.
- Nobody is automatically entered into the Championship, anyone can enter, simply post your predictions to take part, using the format detailed below. You can enter at any point in the season, after all, 5 draws is 50 points which could win promotion in one week.
- If the official result of a fight is changed within one week of the fight having taken place, the new result will be applied. After one week, the result as given will stand.
- Union Cane's decision is final.

Fellas, let's please respect Union's motives for setting up this thread.
He's asked that you continue the ' wedding ' stuff in the ' Trash talk ' section and, given that that is precisely what the section was set up for, I reckon that to be a perfectly reasonable request.
Thanks.

Scott and trottb sitting in a tree....
Union - why don't you get fists to get hold of Warren/Hatton/Hearn etc for sponsorship of the event? The winner of both divisions gets 2 tickets to a boxing show in their area? They then get to have links to the website, ticket office etc etc?

Re: Union Cane's Prediction League - Season 2 - Final Results
You're welcome, Union.
I have something of a vested interest, anyway. As one who is much more comfortable in looking backward rather than forward I'm intrigued to see which of you clever lot will come out on top.
A great many of the fighters in the selected bouts are men about whom I know absolutely nothing, and I doff my cap to those who know the modern game so well.

In truth there have beena couple I have guessed after looking at the BoxRecs... Go on Windy have a go it's all in good fun, I found myself screaming for Martinez to knock Barker out and cursing Howard Foster to his grave at stopping the Brook fight so damply all for an extra couple of points on my Prediction League!

I daren't, Alex.
I'd prefer to own up to being something of a buffoon as far as the modern game is concerned, and rely on you chaps to educate me, rather than prove my buffoonery via long drawn out humiliation.

Not at all Windy, will openly admit plenty of my predictions are pure guesses, normally go for the bloke on the left by UD if I haven't a clue, mid table in the premier though so doing something right.

Bloke on the left by UD is pretty foolproof.

I probably shouldn't reveal this, as it may lead to some strange predicting patterns and a lot of people tied on points, but someone predicting 'bloke on the left by UD' for every fight so far would have 21 points and currently sit in joint 4th place in the Premiership, or joint 3rd in the Championship.

Should have picked Dawson by decision Union, that would have clawed back 4 points for you and I cant see Bellew beating Cleverly.
You can still survive but bet sensibly I will help you out next week...Dont predict before I pm you

He knows i was only playing
And "genius of pbf"
Am taking a bit of a risk as i need to make up some ground, naturally everything points to a points decision etc. But he does love lefties and if Dawson remains as passive as he sometimes get there is a tiny chance of the ref jumping in after BHop lands his 232903th right hand down the shute.

Still cant see a stoppage win, backing a Dawson style Jermain Taylor decision seems the better option...What are the odds for another fight being cancelled this week?

Bit of variety in your insults, if only you made such an effort over your predictions.

I believe rowley's insult of choice is currently 'Bell end'.
