The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the collage of pub regulars. We've got the big group pic from the HEC final in Cardiff, plus insets of ll those who couldn't make it
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

It's really bleak to see Ulster play disastrously poorly and then Irelands hearts broken, but I got a letter from the tax men saying they're sending me £341.60 in a tax refund, so it's not all bad. And I've just started my movember page;

I don't know what to do withmyself today now. Had loads of things lined up to distract me if we lost but I don't seem to want to do any of them now!
Nothing wrong with just enjoying yourself, and the win, today dreamer
Grab some mates, head to the pub for a nice lunch and see what happens. Cardiff will be buzzing.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
S Africa and NZ the only unbeaten sides left now, and we've only had 2 of the 4 QFs. Will France become the first ever side to win the RWC after losing 2 pool games? Be just like them to do so. Good luck to all those left in and well played Wales and France today - the better teams on the day got their just reward.
The neutral - as I now am, sadly - within me hankers after a France v Carterless All Blacks Final, but all good wishes to Wales as the only remaining torch carrier for the Home Nations. Bizarrely, 'boring' England return home after 5 games with a try count of around 20-3, by my calculation.

I would like to see a France vs New Zealand final as well though. Argentina are my second team, but I've basically already accepted New Zealand will walk over them

I have just come in from one thread where someone called "viewtothegym" really pi$$ed me off with a cheap comment. Thank Flip for decent Welsh fans like you lot. I'll be practising this all week guys

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Rava, you only need to learn the first verse! Although the 2nd verse is acutally my favourite.
Prop - nah i'm having a lazy day, I've just decided, don't feel like standing outside watching the rugby!
Hound - ah the pub, I wish but one of my friends is sick, the other working on his diss and the others are working! I am set for a quiet day. Might go out with my flatmate later though
Just come off the phone to my mam, I absolutely love it when she acutally talks rugby with me (tis very rare these days!). We were noting how strange it is that nearly all the backs come from/were educated in Carmarthenshire and the West, and that the forwards are mainly from Gwent/Cardiff/Valleys etc. It seems like it's always that way for Wales and I can't figure out why!

Just had a lovely call from mr Hughie to say he's paying Cardiff a visit for next weekend!! So so far: Wales win, England out, Hughie coming up: now for Cinderford to lose, Lydney to win, Glos to win and the Sarries to cause an upset (too much to ask?!)

There should be 28 letters in the Welsh version of Scrabble, Simon, as far as I'm aware

Simon - they'll probably use the Welsh alphabet which has 28 letters.

Maybe a new addition but in all my 22 years of being taught Welsh, I've always been taught that it's in the alphabet anyway

yeah and things like jam Cari. It is more for adopted English words but it's definitely still there.
Did you know tehre is only one Welsh word that begins with dd? all the others are just ones that start with d but get mutated into a dd depending no the word that is before it.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
that is one of the reasons it's been incorporated into the alphabet MrsP.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jones_%28surname%29
I think it dervies from people being called a son of Jon, it was changed to Jones. Something like that anyway.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
But there must have been a J to be a Jon?
The names must have been Welsh originally, no?
Or is that an anglicized version of a Welsh name?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
anglicised version of a Welsh name MrsP. John in Welsh is Sion.
It's just that in Wales they often adopted the whole 'son of' thing, which is why there are so many surnames like Evans and Williams here to.
Instead of saying William son of William, it just turned into Williams etc.

He is carrying out an extension to a vacant bungalow next door to the farm, supposedly to let as holiday accommodation. I am the CDM Co-ordinator on the works (Co-ordinating Health and Safety). He's getting a Tourist Board grant for the work but the property will be for his son ultimately. He's the young fella that sold the two lambs in Scotland.
