The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Tommy Bowe, Ryan Jones, Dan Newton and birthday boy Prop above the bar.

Yay! Tommy!
Just watching Jonathan (that's Jiffy's Welsh chat show to the non-Welshies in the pub). It's very amusing.

Watching an interview with Brian Moore and Eddie Butler at the minute, great double act those two.
And that's me done for the week now, have wonderful weekends all, doubt very much I'll get in here again so hope you all have good ones
Prop - hope you're enjoying your birthday

Dreamer I would say that Leinster deserved to win by virtue of the fact they attacked for the last 15-20 minutes I saw. Scarlets defended well but didn't get out of their own half.
Impressed by Scarlets defending but Leinster just shaded it.

ah that's fair enough Rava, I am going by the rantings on scarlet fever and it's hard to try and decipher a real feel for the game through some of the comments!
Will add in the last pub (my bad sorry!) and then I'm off. Nos da pawb.

Actually Glas I was so impressed by Nige. I can't say the same about Mr Clancey, though I wouldn't blame him for Ulster's defeat I thought he was very quick to penalise us at the breakdown, especially when we were in possession

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Scarlets are the best PRO12 team to come to the RDS this year. Unreal defence and dangerous in attack. So tight. We pressured them in the end. But they surely deserved a draw from that.
On that link you gave me Cari (THANKS) there are some really cool Welsh dudes. No silliness, just good rugby fans. Loved it. They gave me another IP address I can use for these things. I had to refresh every minute. Justin wanted shekels.
God Bless Fergus for vanavond.

Gibbo. Scarlets are a good side but don't forget Ulster's Academy team just before Christmas
Seriously though I think Leinster really suffered from a loss of their front line International players tonight. The back row was generally inept. I was shouting for Devon Toner earlier for an Ireland start but he never really showed up. McLaughlin the best forward for you.binspired choice as Captain.

Tuohy never really showed up either. Can't see many changes to the Ireland 22 even before Munster play. Probably the same again.

Evening pub
Quick then it's sleep time for me, I am cream crackered. This getting up early business is a real struggle!
Oh and Happy Birthday Prop
Finally figured out this evening which song the opening bars of Madonna's Lucky Star remind me of. It's been driving me completely nuts for days Anyone remember Cuddly Toys from the early 80's? It's one of their songs. Thank heavens for the internet, I'd never have figured it out otherwise.
Welcome dogtooth, have a medicinal ... for it's painkilling properties obviously

Notch, Paddy didn't play badly but overall we just came up short. A bit disappointed in our front row tonight. I was expecting a few penalties our way but they never really pressurised the Blues. Didn't do too badly in the lineout but from good possession we gave it up too easily with mistakes.

Rav,
I think Humph Senior is making the right move. It seems cruel on McLoughlin, but it's required for them to reach the next level.
I said it a good while ago and I near got lynched by the Ulster mob.
He's done well, but not well enough for the financial outlay and commitment from his Gaffer. Like Kidney, he is out of his depth.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
You really can't blame McLaughlin for tonight Gibbo.
He's the same guy that coached the team that ran ASM very close. he didn't coach them to drop the ball and decide that tackling was optional.
I agree in part about McLaughlin but can't blame him tonight.

He will leave with the best European record of any Ulster coach, so there's that!
I think he made some mistakes tonight but generally he's gotten most things right. I think this is as good as it will get with McLaughlin, but he's done ok this season.

Motivation Mrs P? Will he cede responsibility for that to his players too? If so why does he draw his salary?

Yes, there's that. I feel we probably let a poor performance slide last week because we still got 5 points when really we should have had a big week in training to prove that wasn't the 'real Ulster' against Dragons.

No he won't Glas but I will not hold him responsible for the performance tonight.
It wasn't the lack of a game plan which let us down tonight it was lack of execution.
If I was to find fault with him tonight it would be for not replacing iHumph earlier.

Mrs P. iHumph has been the weak link for Ulster all season and I have been saying it constantly. Unfortunately there are those that think the sun shines out of his oirse. Probably including his brother. Ulsters attention should be in looking for a good replacement out-half. Bad and all that Parks was in tonight's game he influenced the result much more than Humphries.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I don't think his big bro is under any illusions about iHumphs form this season. He's way too smart for that. And it would go against everything the man stands for. Don't forget he has the memory of being behind an undropable 10 himself no too long ago.
The thing is in past seasons he has swung from the sublime to the ridiculous but tonight was a new low. I know a lot of us have been calling for Marshall-Pienaar as our half back combo but surely now is the time? He must really impress mid week though or I don't think he'd be there no matter who his big bro is.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I think McLoughlin has done really well. And I did not see the game tonight. Please dont get me wrong. But he has been provided with some of the best players money can buy, to do it with. Humph has done that. I just think they, and Ulsters finest, need a better coach to get the best out of them. Thats all.
I like the man. He is honest and hard-working to a fault. But thats not the issue here. Im delighted he is taking Ulster's Youth on. It would be a crying-shame to lose a man who has Ulster running thorugh his veins. Like his Boss. Perfect job for him. A vital one now and great for Ulster. And Ireland. Like Ruddock at Leinster.
Peace and Love.

+1
In fact I believe he is ruthless in his drive for World Domination. He means it. All good for Ulster Rugby.
P.S. MrsP. He wasnt behind ROG. He was a far better player. Just got shafted by EOS. In all truth. And its happening again - with another blind Corkman.

Oh go on then. Do I have to put the gear on and comb my hair in that way as well? Sheesh.
P.S I want to see Ulster in HC & PRO12 Finals again. Its coming under Humphreys. No blowing smoke up arses here.
I just think he is clever enough, experienced enough in the game, to make the right calls. And ruthless enough to take Ulster there.
Id like him to take a role in Ireland's future tbh. Shift some of the eejits who run the IRFU aside and bring him onboard. Let him have his say. We blatantly need that.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Howya Gibbo & PJ.
Mr G - I was asked a question earlier today if I knew any 'famous' Dutch bands besides Golden Earing and Focus.
Off the top of my head I came out with Shocking Blue and Dane from yonks back. Plus pop acts Pussycat (annoying song called Mississippi), and George Baker (even more annoying 'Una Paloma Blanca').
More recently, 2nd Dimension & the Venga Boys. Not forgetting that Jan Akkerman (Focus) had a successful solo career, and that Alex and Eddie Van Halen were also Dutch.
Note the question was texted to me from one of a group of guys on the afternoon lash. Sounds like they were having some sort of 'obscure' question conversation.
