The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
Ok, here's my idea for a quiz.
I'd planned on posting about 12 questions, and getting you to pm me the answers.
But I've had what I think is a better idea
I thought we could have an on going quiz, it will go like this.....someone posts a question ( it can be about anything related to racing).
The person who answers correctly gets to ask the next question......if you are certain you have the correct answer then go ahead and ask a question......if your not sure just wait until someone confirms it.
In that way the thread can run for as long as people are interested in it.
I'm rather pleased with that idea
Of course, it could all go horribly wrong...........but we'll give it a go.
Here's the first question:
In the 1998 Cheltenham Gold Cup, See More Business was carried out by Cyborgo (Paul Nicholls was not a happy bunny!).
Can you name the other horse that was carried out in that incident?
I'm off now .....I've had a busy day......night night,
Solerina.

Great idea Solerina ... This could run and run and run and run ......
Unlike INDIAN TRACKER who i think was the horse carried out by Cyborgo in the '98 Gold Cup.
Remember that race very well, Cool Dawn at a big fat 25/1 was i think the first winner (and i'm almost sure the last !!) i ever backed in the Gold Gup !!!!

Ok here goes ...
Willie Mullins has a tremendous training record at the Cheltenham Festival however he has also has success in the saddle. My question is -
What is the name of the horse that Willie Mullins trained and also rode to success at the Cheltenham Festival ?
Good Luck ... Cheers

Re: The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
Thanks Grahame, I had a little help from Google <blush>
Next question -
The 1967 Grand National was won by Foinavon, who survived the carnage caused by a loose horse, at what was subsequently named The Foinavon Fence.
What was the name of the loose horse that ran across the field, in front of the fence, and caused all the mayhem
I'll have to leave you to it now.....I'm running late for work (again).....I am so sacked! lol

Re: The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
Oh bother......I thought I'd got this.
Our Armageddon came to mind earlier........I've just done a search on Sporting Life...........in the 2004 Festival he ran in the Arkle but was pulled up then, after a day's rest, he won the Cathcart.
Anyway, that wasn't the answer so it's back to the drawing board.
I'm thinking now that Paul Nicholls had a horse that did this.
A horse must have won the last race on one day then won the first race the next day......or......maybe the last race at one festival then the first race the following year.
This is very good question racingnut......you may have to give us some clues soon.

Re: The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
I think i might have just stumbled across the answer to this one when i wasn't looking for it .....
Was it Montelado ???
It won the first ever Bumper in '92 and then won the Supreme Novices in '93.
You've gotta love these old Weatherbys books, I hope all this studying helps me find some winners next week as well as the answers to our little quiz on here

Re: The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
Well done Grahame.......I think that must be the correct answer.......where's racingnut when you need him?
Unfortunately, when I temporarily fell out of love with racing, a while ago, I gave all my racing books to the charity shop.
The only two I kept were Tony McCoy's autobiogrpahy and a book about the Grand National.........I so wish I hadn't given my books away.......they'd have come in very handy for this quiz lol

Re: The Perpetual Horse Racing Quiz.
Apologies for the delay in posting the next question ...... I'm currently on 'Road Trip' around Britain trying to tie up all the loose ends at work before next weeks vacation to Cheltenham .... Right here goes -
Ladbrokes currently sponsor the World Hurdle at Cheltenham, however what was this race previously known as before they took over sponsorship and name the three previous sponsors of the race.
Good Luck ....

Well done Swansea (I'm sure that must be right), welcome to our racing quiz......it's very slow going (I had actually forgotten all about it) but fun nonetheless
Hopefully racingnut will soon appear to confirm your answer then you get to ask the next question.....hope you'll be able to cope with the excitement of it all.
I've got some brill questions lined up for when it's my turn again.

Sol, I think its right but not 100% mate - remember a similar question coming up years ago at a racing quiz in the boozer.
Will wait on racingnut confirming it and if it is correct will get the thinking cap on.
Good luck tomorrow

Cheers racing, yeah me and you of the same generation mate!
Well been racking my brains to come up with a suitable question, not wanting to make it too obscure, I went to school with Alan King so have decided on a question relating to Alan.
Prior to becoming Asst Trainer to David Nicholson, Alan was employed in a similar role in another stable, who was his Guvnor?

Did not expect this question to prove so troublesome, so I'll stick up a wee clue to try to hurry it on - The trainer we are looking for is Scottish, when Alan worked for him he had a relatively small stable based in Motherwell, he then moved to Cree Lodge stables near Ayr racecourse which was eventually taken over by Linda Perratt.
Hope that helps folks!
