First topic message reminder :
Hi guys
Just a quick one to let you know that I have spoken with All Out Cricket regarding the amount of Surrey fans we have here at 606v2, and they're going to look to provide any Surrey related blogs/news/articles that they have to this section. Given that their office is located near to the Oval, they often chat with the Surrey guys and as such get some good interviews, so hopefully they can get some of those across here for you fellas to get your teeth into.
Cheers

thread up guildford as you say no refund if more then 19.5 overs are bowled on the day the rain they left the field on was the same they was playing in a hour earlier call me cynical if you likeguildfordbat wrote:Hi JimBob - does that mean you don't get a refund on your ticket money? Btw, excellent call by you on Wilson. Just seen he's in the 13 man squad for Horsham. Possibly he could sneak into the team ahead of Batty - we're not really going to need a second spinner in this sort of weather. Bit tough on Batty if that's the way it goes considering his tenfer last time out. No doubt you'll do the usual thread. Cheers.

Re: Surrey news/articles
Meanwhile in the second eleven three day friendly at Guildford, Surrey completed a comfortable win over Middlesex. We won by 125 runs as Middlesex were dismissed second time out for 237, chasing 363.
Middlesex had declared on their overnight score of 16-1 whilst we forfeited our second innings - credit to both sides for making a game of it.
Star of the show today was George Edwards with a sixfer.
Tremlett being gently and effectively eased back into action. He finished with impressive figures of 8-4-15-2.

I see that Surrey have formed a "masters XI" to play a couple of matches against club sides. The team is enough to strike fear into the hearts of any opposition, even allowing for some of them being a tad past their prime.

Found out today that at least 3 players, Dernbach, Maynard and Hyphen were seen out at a nightclub (and pictured) on Thursday night - right in the middle of the Sussex match. This is massively disappointing and I really hope they are punished for this, unfortunately it kind of backs up my opinion that too many of our players don't really care about the Championship enough.

Whatever the club rules it seems quite unprofessional for cricketers to be out late at a night club in the middle of a important match.

It really surprises me that these things still go on - suggests that professionalism isn't quite as embedded as one may think. No problem with them going to a club if they enjoy that, but surely wait till after the match rather that during.
RHB has history here. In August 2007 he was stripped of the England U19 captaincy after being accused of drinking alcohol the night before a game. However, on this occasion an about-turn took place as the allegations proved unfounded.

Re: Surrey news/articles
With yet another lacklustre batting display under our belts, does anyone have any idea what we could do to change things? Personally I think the order needs shaking up a bit at the very least. Something like:
Davies
Burns
Roy
Wilson
Hyphen
Maynard
Spriegel
Batty
Meaker
Kartik
Nannes
It gives the batting extra depth, still 5 proper bowlers + Hyphen and moves some of the hitters around so they aren't all out at the start. Wilson can steady the ship in his current form and Burns has opened for the seconds for a while now. Roy at 3 is still fine for me and it leaves Maynard and Hyphen to make quick runs at the end of the innings. Something needs to change.

I must say Wilson's displays with the bat havent surprised me after watching play for us (Ireland) on tour and at the World T20 qualifier. It was the best I ever saw him play and he was probably our player of the tournament, surprised he didnt get a run in Surrey's CB40 team.

Surrey cricketer Tom Maynard has died after being struck by a London Underground train.
The batsman, 23, from Cardiff, played for his county in the t20 game against Kent on Sunday.
Monday's incident involved a District Line train at Wimbledon Park station.
Police said a man matching Maynard's description ran away after a car being driven "erratically" was stopped shortly before. The IPCC is investigating.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "At approximately 04:15 BST on Monday, 18 June, officers stopped a vehicle after it was seen being driven erratically in Arthur Road, SW19.
"The male driver of the vehicle - a black Mercedes C250 - made off on foot. Officers were unable to locate the man.
"At approximately 05:10 BST the body of a man fitting the same description was found on tracks near Wimbledon Park station."
London Ambulance Service medics were called but Maynard was pronounced dead at the scene.
British Transport Police (BTP) said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

like others, utterly shocked to hear this news... hard to take it in... my thoughts and prayers are with the immediate family and of course his friends and playing colleagues... Such news puts so much else such into perspective.. it will be so hard for playing colleagues to take the field in the coming weeks as they grieve and mourn for Tom...really not much more I can say...

JimBob - thanks for posting that.
The number and content of the messages is impressive and moving. The one from former Surrey player Nadeem Shahid particularly caught my eye. He was with the Club when both Graham Kersey and Ben Hollioake were killed.
Tragic as those two deaths were, I wonder if it slightly heped team mates at the times that they occurred out of season. I suspect it will be incredibly hard for Tom's colleagues to adjust from him being with them at Beckenham last Sunday but not at Chelmsford this Friday and never again.

It will probably be at Chelmsford that it will hit them hard. After the initial shock, in some ways things will have returned to normality. But travelling to the game, spending time in the dressing room, and of course playing the match without him will be difficult.

Certainly.
I don't claim it is wrong but it is unfortunate that Jade Dernbach and Stuart Meaker (who were both close friends of Tom Maynard) will not be with their Surrey team mates at Chelmsford on Friday but instead with England for another ODI.

Just picked up that Gary Wilson will also be missing from Chelmsford. He's been called up for Ireland's ODI against Australia starting in Belfast on Saturday morning.
In so many ways, Surrey are going to be up against it on Friday evening.

There is a good suggestion made by some that the Glam v Surrey match later this season in CB40 would opportunity to do something really special as mark of respect for Tom. I would strongly support that.

An unbeaten 50 as well from Jewell. He's still a long way off a Surrey first team spot but I think it would be worth a lowly Div 2 county taking a punt on him for a few games if Adams offered him on loan.

I suppose the problem with that would be that, as a general rule, counties want an experienced player on loan, and perhaps one that would consider signing for them.

Hi Shelsey, good to see you on a main thread.
I think you're probably right about counties looking for experience. Whilst that's understandable, they shouldn't overlook potential and hunger of younger players who sadly are going nowhere with their current team due to those above them in the pecking order.

Spriegel went on to take seven wickets as Surrey seconds completed a comfortable 8 wkt win. Ansari once more opened the batting but fell cheaply as yet again did his replacement the Brain. Harinath guided us home with an undefeated 37.
The first day of the seconds' 3 day Championship match next week against Middlesex has been brought forward to Tuesday so the players can attend Tom's funeral on Wednesday.

Incredibly demanding period coming up.
Six T20 matches in nine days, intersected by Tom's funeral. As well, a second XI Championship match which has been brought forward a day so those players can also also attend the funeral.
Stay strong.

Re: Surrey news/articles
I think the first game after Tom's death was always going to be more of a close fight - players doing it for him and taking out their anger and frustration and emotions on the pitch. However yesterday's result could well be repeated over the next few days, players are demoralised and it must be so so hard to be 'up' for any of this especially with the funeral in the middle of it all.

Reports that RHB won't be asked to captain for the rest of the season, and might not play for a while. He is understandably continuing to struggle the most with getting to terms with what happened to Tom, and it was felt that the match v Hampshire came too early. Certainly from the television coverage, and bizarre run out, he didn't seem right.
