The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the wedding pictures of Dan Carter and Honor Dillon above the bar! And if anyone tells the Australian Womens' Weekly that KiwiRedDevil's Mum smuggled a camera into the service* there'll be hell to pay - they paid a fair amount for the exclusive
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?
Old Pub: https://www.606v2.com/t19779-the-dew-drop-inn-virtual-rugby-pub#757023
* Note to any lawyer-y types, that's a joke and is completely and utterly false, Mum forgot to put the camera in her handbag

And... hello (for the older contingent HELLO GLAS AND GIBBO!).
I've been not posting in here but now I can again because I just met my last deadline before Christmas! Beers all round.
I am so, so made up. Now I can relax. I have the whole of tomorrow to relax. Except for catching up on shopping...

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Alright?
Just thought I'd pop in. All is well out here, if anyone is concerned. Went to an American FOB the other day, which I was a bit worried about, but it was fine. Training is going well, so I'm looking forward to getting back to my rugby.
Not overly fussed about Charteris leaving Lucky. Hardly see him anyway. I wouldn't have him as captain again though, if we see him before the end of the season. I just read a funny quote in the Western Fail about the move though (I know I shouldn't read it).
"I agree with the positive aspects of players being in France. But I think we'll discover that just like all the other guys who've decided to experience a different culture Charteris wont have signed an international release clause. Apparently they get less culture if they do ! And culture talks!"
Very funny about the "culture"
Anyway, I've seen some of the photos from the weekend. Looked good. I watched about 25 minutes of Chiefs v Dragons and got annoyed. There's only so much of Exeter diving off their feet I could handle watching and their flyhalf's kicking routine is horrible (freaky eyes). The fact that we were garbage didn't help either. So it's been 3 games out here (I think) and not one win. Going to be a long three months.
Anyway, best try get to sleep. Nights are killing me a bit during working hours, but typically after work I am never tired.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Rev, I've just read the interview with Martyn Hazell and he said that they tried as hard as they could to keep him and if they'd tried any harder, he'd have gone bankrupt. You can't begrudge him the move either, seeing as he's been at the Dragons from the outset. The worry is that this is the beginning of all our best players - not just at the Dragons but across the regions - getting tempted across the channel.

I love snow, well for the first couple of days it's here anyway. Not so much fun when it turns to ice
Still, tis a Friday, am getting my hair cut later (finally! am in dire need of one), then off out with my flatmate and some friends in what has the potential to turn out to be a very messy night. Can't wait

We only got a wee skiff of it here last night. My kids are scanning all available weather forecasts hourly in the hope that more will follow.
Having had school closures the past couple of winters they are now certain it is an annual occurance.

I went to the only Welsh-medium comprehensive in Gwent so there were pupils from all over the county. It was always annoying when people in my class from Brynmawr and Ebbw Vale had to go home because of snow while me and everyone else from Newport had to stay on!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Morning all, bleeding freezing here today. not helped by the fact that I ripped my jeans this morning while sitting down on the bus, there was always a sort of ripped part of them on the knee (on purpose) but today it turned into a gaping hole. Luckily I work with an ex army soldier and the daughter of a dress maker so between them and the Christmas cracker sewing kit someone had stashed away in their drawer I’ve been patched up and my knee can return to it’s natural colour of milky white / transparent rather than the cobalt look I had earlier!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Just been looking at the fixture list for the new year and it really is quite rubbish, not going to be able to make many games I think.
Reckon I might target going to Blues v Leinster on the 7th January, not sure I'll be able to make it back okay after the Scarlets v Glasgow one (stupid trains and taxis!). Any Leinster regs thinking of making the trip over/down for that one??

Morning all, one for the wall:

We had a wee snow-flurry outside the office window earlier, no sign of it settling though.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Rodders,
There is a little snow here in the Capital but I doubt there is enough to disturb the airports.
Considering what we flew out in this time last year!
That journey to the airport was the scariest I have ever made.
We managed to get the car stuck in our own driveway despite our neighbours clearing it for us the day before with his wee digger and us leaving the car very near the gate!
The motorway had been closed earlier for a few hours to clear the ice and snow and then it snowed again while we were driving in it.
Terrified dot com!

Dreamer, I know I won’t be making any away trips soon. I’m bleedin smashed!
If I needed to travel for an knockout stage HC match, I’d go hungry for a week or so, no problem. But for the league, I just can’t justify it!
Wonder if the ERC are crapping themselves at the possibility that no English teams will gain a home QF in the cup…

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
ha, no worries Mick, I'm the same with the Scarlets really! I'm guessing most will be like you, but didn't think it would hurt to ask
Am thinking, if I don't make it out for the Ireland v Wales game, of doing the Leinster v Scarlets match later on in the month in February instead. It will be like my one big away trip of the year in the Pro12!
MrsP: that sounds horrible! Not sure if I'd have been brave enough to get in the car. Hate travelling by car anyway, but when there's snow about, that's even worse

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I'm usually fairly calm about driving in snow but this was BAD!
My parents were following us in their car and they had a couple of our kids with them. I was just so aware that one slip and almost everyone I loved was gone! Prayed the whole way.
Still can't believe the plane managed to take off.
Mind you, that was also the day my aged mum-in-law decided to "nip" into Belfast to pick up some last minute stuff for Christmas. The buses weren't running but instead of taking that as a sign that weather conditions were pretty bad she decided to take the train. She imagined that the pavements in town would be cleared but it had been so bad for so long that they were still like ice rinks! It is a reasonable walk from the train station and she saw several young people fall. I think that was the point at which she thought it hadn't been such a great idea after all!
Still, she made it there and back in one piece!
