First topic message reminder :

Can't see anything wrong with oil companies. Like every other business they are out to make money, but somehow it is frowned upon to make more than anyone else.
It is not the fault of the oil companies if there is future harm to the environment, as if there wasn't a demand or the product they wouldn't be continuing to invest in finding it. (if there even is an issue with the environment)
Oil companies probably put more money into alternatives than anyone else. Statoil in particular.

As for climate change, there is no doubt it is occurring, however considering the age of the earth is measured in billions of years and we are only able to go back as far as the last ice age (10-15000 years) to measure climate trends. I'm yet to be convinced of man's actual contribution. The number one greenhouse gas is not C02, CH4 or any other by product of our use, but infact naturally occuring water vapour, which our burning of fossil fuels barely make a dent in. Of course it's all about tolerances and thresholds, but with the likes of India, China and America being the worlds biggest polluters, I'm not going to feel guilty about European energy consumption. It seems very convenient that as people are reliant on fossil fuel then it is easy to tax it by both increasing it's price and the guilt associated with using it.

Anyway, all these lentil knitters who go on about the "evil" of oil have never ever given a viable alternative.
Personally I think Nuclear power is the way forward, but the uneducated hippies will never allow it.

If you are compiling a list of most annoying footballers you'd have to put drogba pretty near the top. What a big girls blouse he is. Something really irritating with how Lampard runs too.

Mac,
Usually we do but for some reason this is not being carried live, they're providing a re-run starting 25 minutes after this ends. Probably live on a super-premium channel I don't get.
But I'm not happy about it!

What a surprise. A complete lack of understanding of what his role is and what the requirements are for the role. You don't get to play for as long and at such a high level as he's done without being bloody good and having the physical attributes to go with it. If you had another neuron between you, you could form a synapse.

This guy could easily be just as good, and probably more effective if he was better conditioned. He is an athlete to a certain standard, but clearly eats too many pies. He looks like a front row from the 1980's, and in 2012, that is unacceptable in professional sport. In fact does the article not state that his lack of fitness is a contributing factor in his retiral?

A shot putter isn't the same shape as a high jumper who isn't the same shape as a sprinter. It's about having an athletic build suitable for a particular athletic purpose.
Props don't ever have to run 100 metres but they have to possess explosive power to cover 20 metres usually dragging along an opposing player.

"The sumo lifestyle for top wrestlers is not all that bad. They get fame, women, all the beer they can drink and the right to eat as much as they want and take a long nap in the afternoon. Occasionally wrestlers are involved in scandals with their coaches or beautiful actresses. When there are no major tournaments, sumo wrestlers tour the country, appear in single-day tournaments, sing karoake at charity events, make guest appearances on game shows, and practice, work-out and eat. "

Diggers you are right, there isn't a lot of point to many sports but what really annoys me about rugby is the farcical lineout ballerina nonsense and the fact there hasn't been a straight put in in a scrum since about 1990. There is also far too much dilly dallying in regard to the ball sitting static on the ground following a scrum.
It's almost as if the game was invented for people with less coordination and who were too big to get involved in other sports.

The game actually evolved to give a role to people of all builds. Tall for locks, heavy set for front row, quick for wings, small and nippy for half backs.
Clearly at the top level this has changed but at its root this is still true , it's a veryinclusive sport in that sense.
