The Wales vs England bickering thread, 2012 - PONIES ALLOWED!
First topic message reminder :
OK, every year we see threads that actually contain really good rugby discussion derailed by the ongoing Wales vs England bickering and WUMMING! I will name no names. I guess we have all been guilty .
Since most of the general bickering comes from the respective fans of Wales and England ; I thought I would create a thread for it in an effort to keep decent rugby discussion relatively WUM free in other threads.
So I will begin, An article in the Western Mail today pointed out how England are copying Gatlands youthful approach with a squad that has an average age of 25 and 428 caps between them.
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/rugbynation/rugby-news/2012/01/12/analysis-new-look-england-follow-youthful-wales-lead-91466-30105333/
Wales probable squad (once you have taken out Shane and Wellies from the World cup squad with their probable replacements) lines up at the same average age and about 820 caps between them. England are copying Wales' approcach but are way behind. Clearly all things point to a wales victory in HQ this year.

Please may I emphasise that this is a bickering and banter thread, whilst mild wumming and banter are allowed please try not to stray over the line of decency.

I see no reason why it will be an different this year.
The answer to that is very simple, Wales improved all year, England didn't, if anything they regressed, got worse...!
Three games between England and Wales in 2011. England won the first well, we're very unconvincing winners in the second and losers in the third.
What makes you think this new England team missing seven or eight of the starters they had in last years six nations will be as good or better than the Champions last year?
There is little fact to prove that an England team missing two thirds of their 2011 front row, two flyhalfs, new centre combo, back row, even second row are going to be much cop at all until we watch their first few games. Plus new untried manager who has little experience of real international rugby. He was what Leeds coach for a season then Saxons coach. Hardly a previous premiership, HEC or grand slam winner is he.
Your basing all your theories of this being a good England team on past glories of players who won't be involved.

We'll be playing with no fear.
Scotland have to beat us, Italy will never have a better chance, and the other three is a bit of a lottery all capable of beating each other on their day.
I'm confident we'll win 2 out of 3 (Fra, Ire & Wal)

Sorry, you think England might lose to Italy or Scotland but are more likely to beat two of Ireland, France and Wales.
Please explain that...? Just Home advantage?

Considering no one is favourites to win this championship, and unless either Wales or England show good form neither are currently favourites I dont see why anyone would feel pressure.
Actually the only team who should feel pressure is England, they have a lot of respect to rebuild with their fans and the rugby world after the way 2011 ended for them.
England are a team with huge expectation. The pressure is far more on them HERSH...!

Of course I would.
I think after finishing runners up and 4th place Fra and Wal have all the pressure on them to show the NH that it wasn't a fluke.
England have no pressure at all, caretaker coach, young un-capped players, but we could win and win well.

600+ post on Keith Earls
There's clearly a lot of Irish on this board if Keith Earls provokes more attention that England Vs Wales.

Especially not in the club rugby section. Just putting it there, is an insult to such a highly talented and well regarded player. No one with an ounce of respect would reply to a Henson post in the mere club rugby section. What were you thinking?

A thread about everyone hating England by hersh, which I replied to earlier today.
Seems to have vanished down the cyber-gurgler can`t find it anywhere.
BUT,to recap said reply England and Wales record is 56-54 wins to England plus 12 draws.
Tournaments over the years are also almost equal.
I `m an Anglo-Scot,my Primary team is the All Blacks as it has been for the past 60 years.BUT ,I still support mysides of my birth vesus any one but the All Blacks.
England this year, with new Coaching setup, and young inexperienced Squad.
I would be surprised if they won the 6Ns.France have left many known players out of there squad.
If Saint Andre has them motivated they are formidable,BUT so unpredictable.
Could`nt be bothered to play in the pool stages, then nearly win a RWC.
Scotland always difficult to beat especially at home, but need to score tries.
Ireland again on there day can beat anyone,if teams are sloppy Italy profit.
Wales had a good RWC ,and have discovered some new talent IF they build on it.
IT could be another Grand Slam,England have injuries problems.Lancaster has offered JW an olive branch. England need to build without him and his
recent form does`nt encourage running rugby.
At least not with England,4 years to go start re-building NOW .Forget the old Contemptibles they`ve had there moments let the next generation find theres.
contempibles

Re: The Wales vs England bickering thread, 2012 - PONIES ALLOWED!
Interesting article on the harmful effect of England rugby players behaviour in NZ last year in todays press. Of course the England players simply didnt care about the kind of image they portrayed and how their impressionable fans would react to their antics. Ive bolded the important parts.
Dwarf left in wheelchair after being thrown and injured by drunken rugby fan
A dwarf who was picked up and dropped on the floor while celebrating his birthday during the Rugby World Cup was told he will have to use a wheelchair as a result of his injuries.
Martin Henderson, from Milborne Port, Somerset, was in the White Horse pub, in Wincanton, celebrating with a group of friends when he was attacked outside.
The incident happened just weeks after reports in the media claimed members of the England rugby team had been enjoying a "dwarf throwing contest" in a bar in New Zealand during their ill-fated World Cup campaign.
While Mr Henderson's friends were playing pool he said he went outside for a cigarette and was targeted on October 7 last year.
After landing hard on the ground he said his back and legs began to feel numb. It has since been revealed he has suffered tissue damage in his back
Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses.
"We were having a good night out to celebrate my birthday," Mr Henderson told the Western Gazette.
"I went outside for a cigarette and the next thing I know I'm suddenly in the air and someone has got hold of me."
The 37-year-old said he believed there was only one person involved in the incident.
"I guess I was an easy target and the only reason I was picked on was because I am small," he added
Mr Henderson said the man was of a slim build with dark hair and around 5ft 8in. He was wearing a hooded top and baseball cap.
He was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton after his back and legs began to feel numb and a scan revealed he had tissue damage to his back.
Mr Henderson, who has spinal stenosis, now has to use a zimmer frame to walk and has been told by doctors he will need a wheelchair for longer journeys.
The incident happened about a month after England rugby players, including Mike Tindall, visited the Altitude Bar which was hosting a "Mad Midget Weekender".
An Avon and Somerset police spokesman said: "The public are being asked for their help following an assault in the White Horse public house back in October.
"Officers investigating would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the pub on the night of October 7.
"It follows an incident in which a small person was picked up by an unknown person in the bar and dropped.
"This caused an injury to his back."
Anyone who may have been in the pub at the time is asked to call Yeovil police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

I expect England to be very dangeous this 6 nations. They have picked a young squad and there is some serious talent there. All of them will want to perform for the new coach. Remember what Wales did when we got our new coaching team?

Gatts I nearly cried with laughter at that clip. the line "theres a little dwarf girl who has only been here for a few months and she already has her own mushroom" was priceless.
Mckay I know what your saying, but. Martin Johnson was better than Gareth Jenkins. Warren Gatland is better than Stuart lancaster.
I expect England to be competitive but they still have problems with creativity in midfield. They still have no general at 10. Their front row will not inspire any fear. They do have some wonderful strike runners in Foden and Ashton(whatever I think of him as an individual). They will win enough ball at the setpiece but I cant see them dominating teams up front. England have relied upon forward power for so long to batter teams that a change in approach will take time to produce goods.
Lancaster has been bold with selection and has looked for the long term good of England despite the own short nature of his contract. That should be applauded. In the long term that will produce an England team that plays a better style of rugby and will win trophies. It has to be evoloution though not revolution if England are to put in a long term foundation for success.
Wales in 2007 -8 did not change personnel. Gats came in and showed how good that clutch of welsh players actually were(and how bad the coaching had been). Given the talent of that welsh squad of 03-09 the fact we only won 2 grand slams and imploded at other times is an indictment of the coaching in 06 and 07.
The welsh team that went into the RWC last year didnt simply get thrown together; its a bit ridiculous that people think all it took was throwing the youngsters in and that was that. Since 2009 the team has gone through a transformation in terms of personnel and only now are we starting to look good. Its going to take the English just as long to develop their players structures and team. When they do they will be very good again.

I look at it this way:
France were so fickle in the tournament that they could have won, or been knocked out in the group but for the grace of other results and some pretty average refereeing. Both England and Wales were knocked out by France. So let's set games with French opposition aside.
England were otherwise undefeated, whilst Wales lost to both South Africa and Australia. As an encore Wales followed it up by losing to Australia at home. Then Wales' top points scorer retired.
One of these two nations is in better shape, I tell you.

Wales played more games in the World Cup because they got further.... appears to be something silly english people forget. Wales also played a game against Australia to make a bit of cash... nothing silly there is there ??

But to pose the original point that i made , Have Wales ever won a World cup, so all bragging rights go to, yes, you guessed it the sporting super-power east of Offa's dyke and the severn, Good old England.
Who, if you didn't know are the only country on the surface of the Earth to have won World cups in Football, Rugby and cricket.
ok, Wlesh people, your turn, Ha,ha,ha,ha, 2 semi- finals in a World cup really isn't any Competition, now is it!

Wales have never won a World cup, because 7's is a bit of froth that is so unimportant that i never even mentioned that England were the first team to win the 7's in 92, so lets not go there because its just a bit of B.S and frippery, while England have won World cups in all 3 major sports.
My, England winning all these trophys must make the Welsh people on these threads feel somewhat inferior, Can't think why!!
