The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Rhys Thomas, Ben Castle, Andy Fenby and Bill McLaren above the bar!

Good of you to put a photo of Ben Castle above the bar, Kiwi. He never really did the business for us but it's always a shame when a player's forced to retire through injury.

I got a pick on the wall
I was starting to think it would never happen!
Andy Fenby should be the model for all aspiring academy hopefuls:
"This man gets paid for playing rugby, just think what YOU could achieve"

Nope, it's because I'd already hit "send" on the new pub before I read your post. Remind whoever creates the next one

Dreamer, from memory the only good thing he did was attract a high tackle at a crucial point of the game. Mind you all he had to do for that was stand there so not too taxing for him. Every other time he had the ball the south stand to a man went:
*sharp intake of breath...pause...sigh* "he is blydi useless, mind"

I watched the match last night Glas so tis still pretty fresh in the memory. He did some wonderful supporting runs and some great offloads, just some really really good touches. But then he also knocked the ball on a fair bit, got isolated and didn't deal well with the high ball. He's very much a mixed bag!

While I remember: there's a new series starting on Channel 4 at 10pm tomorrow called Bouncers. It follows the fortunes of a group of doormen in Newport. It should be quite good.

Bonjour
Watched highlights of the Scarlets v London Irish game. Have to say am very disappointed, not sure Deacon Manu's try should have stood after he joined the back of the ruck, leant on the players already on the ground so not supporting his own bodyweight, used his hand to move the ball back to the scrum half whilst off his feet, then picked up and dived over.
Also how Marland Yarde managed to ground the ball onto his own supporting hand rather than the turf is still baffling to me!!!
Ah well, another game soon for me to see whether we are going to be sublime or ridiculous this time out.

ha yeah couldn't believe the Yarde non try Pete!
The Manu try was a weird one. I thought he was on his feet when he pretented to move the ball back to Liam Davies, he never let go of it at all, and then just flopped over when LI players were focused on Davies. I know Nige mentioned something about him being the last man at the ruck so twas perfectly okay. Got to say it did baffle me a bit though.
If you want you can watch the whole match, tis still on Clic on the S4C website.
Inogi gave the most adorable interview ever at the end, he's so shy bless him, just wanted to give him a

I heard what Nigel said, but in my opinion, he was off his feet when he first laid hands on the ball at the ruck, so has to be a penalty against him. Had he come in at the back of the ruck, stayed on his feet and then picked the ball up and dived over, fair enough, just felt he wasn't supporting his weight when he laid hands on it so should have been a penalty.
Ah well, it's done now, and I am sure we would have found some way to lose to you had the try not been given!

To be honest I'm of the same opinion as you Pete!
Was amazed how close the game was, especially at the start of the 2nd half, really though you guys were going to pull away. Reckon LI are really close to clicking, not far off being a v good side but I think you need to change it up a bit. In the last 20mins you did seem to run out of ideas a bit.
Defence was key for the Scarlets, we've really come on in that area I've got to say, tis amazing how improved it is this season

Breaking News:
Donnacha Ryan and Peter O’Mahoney share the same face
It has been revealed that a secret project started in the Munster academy in 2004 to develop the archetypal “Angry Face” by surgically removing the face of a very very angry person and cloning it in a lab to be grafted onto the head of their younger players has finally bared fruit.
Ryan and O’Mahoney are hoping to have their faces picked by Ireland coach Declan Kidney at lunchtime tomorrow.

we are very hit an miss this year to be honest dreamer, I think we are at our best a very very good side and at our worst utterly woeful. I would settle for some consistency around the good mark for the rest of the season in truth.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Is Robbo's decision to pick Parks because he wants to play a territory based game against England. Would seem that way to me, and not inconsistent with how Scotland have won matches at Murrayfield against the auld enemy in recent years. Coupled with England not having a clue how to counter such tactics.
Kick, chase and harry and force penalties. It is never a game for the aesthete, and someone watching Scotland v England for their first taste of union would probably be put off the game for life
Afternoon all, by the way

The truth part is Brian McLaughin is leaving when his contract expires and John Kirwan is one of the names that has been mentioned. Matt Sexton also.
EDIT; To add to that, McLaughlin is being replaced by a coach from the SH who as agreed to come.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
That could work Hound - it has in the past - but the consensus seems to be that people want to see the Scottish backs brought into the game more and Parks isn't the man for that. There's nothing to say that Calcutta Cup matches have to be attritional affairs, nor that Scotland can only win by playing the kind of game that's brought them success in the past.
