The Official 2013 Wales v England bickering thread.
First topic message reminder :
2013 bickering thread
OK, every year we see threads that actually contain really good rugby discussion derailed by the ongoing Wales vs England bickering and WUMMING! I will name no names. I guess we have all been guilty.
Since most of the general bickering comes from the respective fans of Wales and England ; I thought I would create a thread for it in an effort to keep decent rugby discussion relatively WUM free in other threads.
Let it commence

GSTHQ is a funeral march compared to FOS - it's easily the 'worst' anthem in the Six Nations. Ireland's call is a close second. Sounds like an unused Eurovision entry

GSTQ(K) was the first ever National Anthem written in 1745(?) before national anthems properly existed. All other anthems have been adopted because of it. Doesn't change the fact that it's truly, truly dreadful though!

Re: The Official 2013 Wales v England bickering thread.
I just want to point out that GSTQ is the DE FACTO british national anthem. Wether anyone likes it or not!
"England (as distinct from the United Kingdom, comprising England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) has no official national anthem of its own; "God Save the Queen" is treated as the English national anthem when England is represented at sporting events (though there are some exceptions to this rule). There is a movement to establish an English national anthem, with Blake and Parry's "Jerusalem" and Elgar's "Land of Hope and Glory" among the top contenders. Scotland and Wales have their own anthems for political and national events and for use at international football, rugby union and other sports in which those nations compete independently.[15] On all occasions Wales' national anthem is "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" (Land of my Fathers). Scotland has no single anthem; "Scotland the Brave" was traditionally used until the 1990s, when "Flower of Scotland" was adopted. In Northern Ireland, "God Save the Queen" is still used as the official anthem."
So can people stop saying GSTQ IS the english national anthem- we dont have one at present!

I seem to have stirred up a hornets nest.
I went because a couple of my nephews wanted to go, it was fun having to slum it in the normal seats for a change instead of one of the boxes.
Why would I lie about some Welsh people singing GSTQ, I have nothing to gain from that
IMO I think it is mainly Welsh rugby fans that have a problem with singing GSTQ anyway.

Oakey - your right it is the British national anthem, which I guess does lead a bit to the English/British confusion, which then leads to other countries getting English/British confused (stereotypical Union Jack wearing loudmouth, fish & chips eating, holiday makers).

Fish and chips is a good dish.
What is the welsh national dish.
is it just roast lamb gravy chips and peas?
or is it some lamb and leek stew

I think the Welsh national dish (or the one that is claimed is) Cawl - sort of thick brothy soup/stew.
Although ain't it something like Chicken Korma that is the most eaten dish through out England, Scotland and Wales?

Nowt wrong with being a northern pie eating loon, however a mincing southern nouvelle cuisine eater who stays home if its a heavy frost and wears a duffel coat (with imitation horn toggles, not the proper wooden toggles) in mid summer is to be pitied and shunned.

Hey, 2 Christmas's ago, we went to watch Falcons play Leeds. We fought through snow and bank holiday traffic to get there from Durham, and when we did, Falcons had called the match off because they said the pitch was unsafe... Rubbish! The thaw was on. Talk about soft..

no its a cheap cut of beef- like a brisket- but heavily salted and seasoned it is then bolied, or cooked in a brine. - Good salt beef just falls apart, or if it has been pressed heavily it can be cut like pastrami.

Actually, no it isn't, its salt-cured beef. Only the filthy garbage they can and call corned beef is processed (and ironically, bears hardly any resembalnce at all to real corned beef). I was put off the slop for life when in the Gulf War in '91. We got issued the stuff in 10 Man rat packs. Its the only place I know where you can open the tin and pour out the contents - there's so much fat in a tin that its like what comes out your backside after a hot curry. Absolutely revolting, I dunno how people can eat it (or the company gets away with such a frightening misnomer).

Is it really- I must try the good stuff then..
actually i just looked it up-the real corned beef is actually salt beef.. I didnt know that.. But the normal corned beef we buy in the supermarkets is what i think of as corned beef.
"In the United Kingdom, corned beef refers to the variety made from finely minced corned beef in a small amount of gelatin (bully beef; from the French bouilli "boiled"), and is sold in distinctive oblong-shaped can"
"The U.S. version of corned beef is known in the U.K. as salt beef, and is available in cities with large Jewish communities"

Love corned beef as well (the manky UK style stuff, in fact the more hooves and bumholes in it the better!) makes a great 5 minute pasta sauce!

i Like corned beef an all. It isnt actually that bad at all- its just finely chopped meat- no different from mince meat as long as you buy a half decent brand.

Geunine Salt Beef is expensive and incredibly delicious. Corned Beef, eek, remind me of being stuck in a storm in the bush with only ancient tinned supplies for a week while we waited for the road to be cleared. Second only in making a small space smaller by flatulence to beans and fried onions.

they are yes. but not even close to being as good as some of the ones from the jewish parts of town which are less than half the price.
Salt beef is from a cheap cut of meat. But what do you expect from selfridges(although i do admit to shopping there)

Not sure this is entirely true. The inception of national anthems before sport began when the all blacks performed a haka to challenge wales, who responded with I think land of our fathers. It then became a thing to perform a national song prior to sporting contests.

tinned corned beef is mystery meat
it's a mystery what meat, if any, is in it
it's a mystery why anyone would buy it
and it's a mystery why anyone who bought it would eat it
unless they are at war
which is what, as 'bully beef' it was originally tinned for
reading this back i have decided it should be the new English national anthem sung to GSTQ

If you're feeling rather hungry
There's a product you'll remember
Eat it hot or cold on Sunday
Or you can put it in a blender
Corned beef
With chips or with salad It's corned beef
Even Buckingham Palace eats corned beef
Hey! Why don't you try corned beef hash?
