OK, every year we see threads that actually contain really good rugby discussion derailed by the ongoing Wales vs England bickering and WUMMING! I will name no names. I guess we have all been guilty.

Since most of the general bickering comes from the respective fans of Wales and England ; I thought I would create a thread for it in an effort to keep decent rugby discussion relatively WUM free in other threads.

When you know your better than someone whats the point?

Better at what? Not punctuation obviously.

You know you are better when the other has to focus on punctuation, spelling etc.
English my 2nd language as it happens, I now speak Kiwi and Welsh:)
I have a National Identity, I know I am true Briton, whilst my neighbours still struggle to find their identity centuries later.

Ok, c'mon let's do this. 1 - small country? 3rd/4th (open for conjecture), largest population in Europe and one of those larger is Russia!!
2 - Westminster might wanna keep our 'Celtic' bretheren, the vast majority of the rest of us don't.....that's why there's never a referendum that involves a vote for the english.....you'd be out in a crack!
3 - The most recent nationwide DNA study showed that the overwhelming majority of 'white' english males were in fact? You guessed it, predominantly celt! Scandanavians merely moved in and took charge. The great unwashed merely remained the same. Only in places like wales however, is there any great pride taken in the fact that wave aftger wave of invaders pushed the defeated wretches north and west, centuary after centuary. Wave your flags and sing your songs of brave celtic warriors who, innevitably, made not one jot of difference to the world outside their own mud hut!

Wales has identity and its own language which is 2,300 years old and is getting stroger. English pretty much espera not, made up of all sorts of languages as for identity, more in common with Helsinki pal. Whichever angle you go with and however much you try and believe the english come from Briton evidence p*sses on your argument, but your opinion is important to us

On a very serious note.. Ethicity is a very backwards and very damaging concept anyway..

But having a laff with the celts is fine on here.. no drams, we dont need to worry about the PC stuff

Everywhere invaded came back to? urrrmm.......who? Sorta un-invaded and relatively undefeated since 1066, those pesky scandanavians again.
Evidence? Genetically more likely to be celt than scandanavian, (except up here I'm glad to say).......with a big smattering of germanic, although the 'vikings' and the 'anglo-saxons' were to all intents and purposes the same thing with the same pantheon and the same cultural set up. The celts, in reality, did not exist as a nation. It was just a word used by one of their MANY conquerors to describe a large swathe of linguistically similar p@ss heads. Same as 'Britain' today really!
I could go in to much ,ore detail but I fear it would be wasted......my argument as to why you reckon it would be so much more appealing to be from the blood line of an historically Sh@t upon bunch of no-bodies than the germanic/scandanavians who dominated the globe for much of the middle ages is beyond me tho. I'm probably celt judging by surname but am clinging on to the saxon/viking part for dear life!

Having lived for far too long west of the Severn I can say that there are some strong cultural differences regardless of race (and lets face it, southern Wales is full of immigrants from England Italy Poland - you name it. Welsh miners werent always that welsh)

This is a huge simplification but..
One bunch think that they are culturally superior because they have a culture that goes back centuries
The other bunch think that they are culturally superior because their culture is open to outside influences and evolves with time.

There are plus's and minus's with both approaches but personally I'm with Darwin.

Ha! wish I'd thought of this whilst at uni many moons ago! Why did the invading germanic races do so well over here? Because once Mr celt had clapped eyes on the Norwegian chicks he was never going near his little bog dweller again!! They ended up virtually dying out like the neanderthals due to selective breeding and the only one's too poor, ugly or just plain dumb to pull one of the new girls had to shuffle on up the hills with little Olwyn!

Thats what I thought - then I lived there for 7 years. Its not a strict dividing line though. There are plenty of outward looking 'modern european' Welsh people and plenty of English trolls, but I was surprised as to how different it was.

I feel that is more your line as well as others here. Seems as if most ANGLO-Saxons here seem to be trying to prove their exsistance in this island !! The Welsh language was around over 2,000 years ago. When did this strange esperanto called english come into being? I don't need a wiki pal, my education and love of genuine Welsh history backs my corner up. I know what you're saying Bathman, but there are loads if examples of countries/nations divided by an imaginary line. And those folk either side are often completely different, e.g. French and Spanish, German and those it borders, etc. I guess it's just a smaller difference between English and Welsh. Not a great deal at all. But there is definitely something different for me.

There are major differences culturally and politically in countries with no borders. Look at Australia and NZ .. British (westminster/crown = english) colonization. I bet very few Brit's know of their tax being paid back to Maori for land claims etc now, Billions of pounds. Maori were robbed of all their land through criminal laws being passed as well as laws made to stop them speaking or learning their language.

Think you'll find out it's a guy called Cook's fault, you invaded NZ and robed the Maori of their land, do not blame the Kiwi's who settled here you numpty. The CROWN will pay the billions owed to the Maori. It will be Australia's indigenous people next I hope.
