The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Mexico City Rugby Cantina
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has teleported to Mexico City for the first qualifying match for RWC 2015. There's also TVs showing Aviva Premiership, Rabobank Pro 12 and Super XV action.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of the Grand Slam Winners or Dan Carter who returns to rugby this weekend.

You have Aironi up first away. Thats a doddle.
Then Connacht where you will be made to play right until final whistle but Ulster should get the win.
Leinster and Munster will be tough but both will be fighting on two fronts and the Pro12 may not be as important to them as winning the HEC semis. You could/should snatch one.
That's a very bold statement pal. So you think the quarter finals are a foregone conclusion? I see our Pro12 game at the end in Thomond being our toughest including the HC game(s). By that stage Munster will be desperate to secure a home semi-final.
I thought it was fairly obvious that my post was extracting the urine.
Ulster could very easily win in Thomond and should be furious with anything else.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Mexico City Rugby Cantina
I think that some endorphins will need to be released before the all Irish quarter final. Gibbo has some magazines if you need visual aids.

Leinster turned over by the ospreys, Munster beaten in Thomond by Ulster*. Neither winning silverware*.
* Hasn't happened yet.
But that still guarantees an Irish team with a home semi final in the HEC after a mixed 6 Nations. Sounds like business as usual to me.

Glas - I did a writing degree, I got used to my lecturers tearing parts of my work to shreds and having to go back and start all over again! Criticism is good anyways, no one is a perfect writer, and there's always room to improve. Without it, you'll never learn

Munster are DESPERATE to win this upcoming QF. So much more than Ulster. They know they're a team with fading stars all on the decline and they'll cling on to their status as long as they can. In 2 years time Connacht will replace them as Irelands 3rd best team.
Ahem.

Alright folks,
Need get some feedback from you all.
Would you be interested in visiting a stats site that’s dedicated to your league?
If so, what type of stats would you like to see?

I would actually. And I like reading things like who is the top tackler, most meters gained etc etc.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Mexico City Rugby Cantina
Mick a stat I'd like to see is the amount of game time a player has got in a certain position.
So for example (completely made up stat - just using as example).
Fergus McFadden - Played 20 games in the Pro 12
- 10 of these were at Inside Centre
- 7 of these were at Winger
- 3 of these were at Outside Centre
etc.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Mexico City Rugby Cantina
Yeah, i would be interested in a stats site Mick.
I would love to see stats like :
Individual (missed)tackles, breaks, mtrs gained, kicks and passed
I would like to see the above for the whole team but also split between forwards and backs.
Lineouts won, lost, most catches, distance thrown and crooked throws.
Hell just give me every stat you can think of

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Mexico City Rugby Cantina
I would also like to see:
- How many lineouts were thrown to front, middle, back
- How many times a maul was set up after a lineout as opposed to throwing down to #9
- How many times the #8 picked off the base of a scrum.

Ha, it's not boring, Billy! The scoreline's the only stat that matters.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Mexico City Rugby Cantina
Thanks for all your feedback peeps. But please bare in mind that if i am to put together a bunch of stats I'll be doing so by pulling data from somewhere else, i can't watch every game with a pen and paper and count things. But I can pull game data like tackles, meters gained etc.
Stag, the amount of time in each position would be brilliant. But i can't see where i'd get that info. I get my scores from the Pro12 site, and i get other stats from Scrum.com. Does anyone know of another source where each match has a stats table laid out. Stat bunker is no use because that's just the front end, i'd have no information to the raw data.

Just a quict stat question. Is it true that D'Arcy will be playing his 200th match for Leinster this weekend against Munster?
As much as have been against him lately, that truely is some achievement.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Mexico City Rugby Cantina
There are several significant landmarks for two Leinster stalwarts. Wexford centre Gordon D’Arcy’s next appearance will be his 200th for the province, a milestone only bettered by Shane Horgan (207 caps). D’Arcy has played 14 years of professional rugby since making his debut away to Edinburgh in September 1998

I've just noticed that Rory Best has scored the same number of International tries as D'Arcy in 11 fewer matches.

Question.
Is Stephen Ferris more valuable to Ireland than Ulster at the present time?
Since the summer he has played 11 times for Ireland while only turning out 9 times for Ulster, including all 6 HC games.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Mexico City Rugby Cantina
Since Ireland haven't got any games coming up and Ulster are in the QF of the HC and in the running for the Pro 12, I'd say Ulster.
Also, as to stats, I won't go looking for them. If a writer wants to draw one to my attention then so be it. Halfpenny's tackle on Strettle will go down as a missed tackle in the stats, but it kept the Grand Slam alive. Figures on paper can't give that insight.

To be fair I have curtailed it. Its funny I dont know why it gets my goat up so much. I think Sexton is a much better all round player.

Ah no that will just spur on the team and create even more anti-Ulster press.
David Humphreys playing (or even get him to wear his old gear and trademark scrumcap from the stands) will rattle him.

Even better get David Humphreys to sit on the Munster bench with his kit on.
ROG will think he's going to be subbed on 55min and throw a wobbler.
