The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has ventured to Edinburgh, as the team has made their first ever Heineken Cup Semi Final.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Martyn Williams, Shane Williams, Paddy Jackson, Paul O'Connell and Tim Visser.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
Bore da pawb / good morning all, sounds like there was quite a debate here last night!
The lead story on BBC Breakfast this morning was that the government is looking to bring in legislation requiring all puppies in the UK to be microchipped. Fine, I'm all for that; but the reason they're bringing this in is because they think it'll reduce the number of dog attacks. That's so stupid it's untrue. Is a dog going to think to itself, 'oh, I quite fancy savaging that person over there, but I'd better not because I've been microchipped'? What the government should be doing is making it a requirement for everyone who gets a puppy to take it to training classes, and have a certificate to prove they've completed the course. Dogs attack people not because they're a 'dangerous' breed and certainly not because they haven't been microchipped; they attack people because they've never been taught how to interact with other people and other dogs. The government should be addressing the cause, rather than just increasing the likelihood of owners of dangerous dogs being caught and pretending that that'll solve the problem.

Morning Lucky. I read that debate as it happened. I stayed out of it though. Better to remain impartial on that one methinks.
Lucky, micro chipping became compulsory in NI just this month. I don't think it was for the reason you stated though . I wouldn't disagree about the training though.
Morning everyone else. for me please.
Oh and a big for Dreamer this morning.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
Well said Lucky. Doesn't microchipping just hold info on the dog? The gov need to address the problem of morons who own or buy dogs as a status symbols ( divs in tracksuits with a staff leap to mind) or those who just don't have the facilities to keep a dog as a pet. Its all about the environment the pup is in and the training it has had. Our old GSD dog was lovely, brilliant with kids, cos it was brought up in the right way and trained.

It's just common sense, isn't it? Compulsory training would reduce attacks. Compulsory microchipping won't. They shouldn't lie and say it will.

Indeed
For what its worth, I quite enjoyed the debate last night. Looks like things got a bit heated after I went to bed but getting heated isn't a bad thing in itself. It shows you're passionate. I think there were good points made on both sides.
I think it's very unfair that people were making out that dreamer is only complaining because her team is on the receiving end- clearly the ethos of being a Scarlets/Welsh fan and the brand of rugby they try to play has influenced her viewpoints quite strongly but her concerns are obviously global. And at the end of the day, she just wants rugby to be the best sport it can be. Though I fundamentally disagree with her on a lot of things, she got a bit of a hard time of it there. But I know there was nothing meant by it either. We should be able to have a debate like that, knock seven bells out of each other verbally, and then get on famously the next day. Thats being a passionate rugby fan.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
Morning all. very lazy and quiet weekend for me, had a few cans watching the Ulster match on Friday but hardly took my arse off the couch on Saturday and Sunday.
That’s all going to change this weekend though, out Friday celebrating my promotion with the crowd from work, Ulster match on Saturday and Leinster match on Sunday. Even took the Monday off, just to recover, I think I’ll be getting souped either way on Sunday. Nerves are already in shreds…

It's amazing the difference here in Laaaannnnddddaaaannn between paddys day and Georges day.
Put it this way, I didn't even know it was Georges day until hound mentioned it, whereas you can't get away from paddys day. Always found that very peculiar

I just read that piece by Matt Williams This bit made me chuckle. So true
At almost every ruck the defenders are offside, because the referee cannot watch the tackle, the ruck and the offside line with accuracy. By necessity the referee has to spend most of his time looking at the ball. The players know this, so they cheat. It is human nature. Just watch where people park when the clampers are on strike.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
I'm feeling quite confident, which is unsettling, but I have deep reserves of belief in this current Ulster team. I know how much it means to them, I know how much they want it, and I know they truly believe they can win the Heineken Cup and have done since the start of the tournament. That's the reason they are where they are.
Thats not enough to win a game of rugby, but I do feel they have everything they need to do it in terms of personnel, gameplan and mental strength. If we lose, it will be because Edinburgh played an amazing game and deserve their success; I'll applaud them and wish them well. But I believe we can end their fairytale and write a new chapter in ours.
Ask me in three days. I'll probably have turned 180 degrees and be petrified
