The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has ventured to Cross Keys, as their team is in the British and Irish Cup Final.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Richie McCaw, George Smith, Robert Nash,Billy Holland, John Muller, Greg Laidlaw, Aurelien Rougerie, Leo Cullen, Rhys Thomas and Iestyn Thomas.

Dodgy driving out earlier. Really bad conditions.
Clermont supporters look brilliant. I like their warm up tops too.

Mrs Penfro - same here, have really liked Clermont since Stevo's days. Add to that Regan has now moved there and there's still a Welshman in the HEC through Lee Byrne playing for them...tis a no brainer for me (sorry Leinster regs! ) I just want it to be a good match

MrsPenfro I bet you werent too happy with the result yesterday
Rev do you think that any/many of the Cross Keys lads will make the step up to regional game?

I must admit I was supporting Edinburgh, yes.

Judging on Friday, Rhys Dyer could (9), Marc Jones could (3) and Gerwyn Price (2). Gareth David (15) had a decent enough game too, as did Leon Andrews (13) defensively.

Did you want Edinburgh to win or Ulster to lose. There is a difference.
Rev good to know. It sounds like their props did well in particular.

Based on opening 11 minutes this is best atmosphere of the season

And the Leinster fans are making plenty of noise, Stag!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
Should Leo Cullen have been given a card there, irrespective of the acting by the Clermont player?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
So presumably Leo Cullen's punch didn't merit a yellow because it wasn't as clean a punch as Stefan Terblanche's on Ross Ford yesterday...

Absolutely Mrs Penfro. It's a card. Terrible reaction by a prop though.

Leinster appear to be getting the benefit of the doubt on a number of calls from Barnes here.

They certainly do Ozzy. Id say Mick la Chef is going apeshoite
Mike Ross down nursing a small injury. The scrum could go messy for them.

But then Ferris- who DEFINITELY should have been carded was allowed to say on! God bless (damn) inconsistent refereeing.

The only question with Ferris should have been red or yellow.

I've never seen red for that like. Yellow for sure.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
Two things Notch, not only was he offside, but he was off his feet when he was interfering so no question what his intent was. Secondly he was five yards from his own line, Edinburgh had quick ball and were attacking. That ramps up the cynicism.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
Sorry Glas, misread your post.
Definite yellow. Not red.
Red cards are designed for serious foul play. This doesnt come under that category.
It would be completely unprecedented.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
Like Stag says, the point of a red card is to punish violent play. It's for punches, gouges, bites, headbutts etc.

I think Barnes maybe bottled that one. Still, if it was a lower-end punch surely a yellow would suffice?

That's not enough from Wayne Barnes. Leinster should have had a final warning there. Too many penalties.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
I agree with you Luckless. I am baffled by it. Leinster could and should have had at least two yellow cards so far.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
Shocking, shocking from Wayne Barnes. Yet more penalties from Leinster, on their own line, and still no yellow card. ASM have every right to be furious.

Sweet relief!!! Well done to Leinster.
A pity to hear Clermont fans booing. I hope they arent booing their own players.

Agree. I thought he was really disgraceful.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
Stag - they'll be booing the ref!
Lucky - agree with that completely.
I feel so for Fofana. So close, so so close.

The refereeing in the semi-finals has not been great unfortunately.

Neither Barnes or Poite should get the finals. Both bottled pretty clear cut yellows.

It's not all down to the ref though, Notch. The players have a responsibility as well

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
Ah thats ok I thought they were doing it to Fofana. You know that French booing your own players thing they do for national team.
Luckless, whats there to say. Leinster should have got at least two yellow cards and Barnes was apalling.
Nigel Owens should have refereed this. It is astounding that Barnes who was removed by the IRB elite panel was picked ahead of him.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
He should do Rev.
Apparently Cullen punched someone in the last ruck as well as his punch earlier in the game.
Two citings in one game for him?

Yeah to win the game. Which they did. Only Cullen did anything particularly heinous with his punch. Everything else was just indiscipline in the heat of the moment.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
Sorry the text says "apparently fishhooked someone in last ruck" I saw a Clermont player grabbing him around the head.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
They also have a responsibility to play within the laws of the game Notch
Rev - I hope Nige get's the final too, he was absolutely spot on with that penalty kick from Sextons, fair play to him
Stag - ah i did wonder why that Clermont player went a bit nuts at Cullen at the end then, seemed absolutely no reason for it at the time.

In the second to last ruck, a clermont player attacked Cullens head. It was so blatant and in the open that i am suprised nothing has been said about it.

Billy - aye I know, see above, apparently that was in reply to some more Cullen misbehaviour, not sure what it was though, but I couldn't believe no one seemed to notice it either.

Oh, i saw that now dreamer. Cullen stepped over and was told to retreat by Barnes and was then set upon.
