The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has ventured to Cross Keys, as their team is in the British and Irish Cup Final.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Richie McCaw, George Smith, Robert Nash,Billy Holland, John Muller, Greg Laidlaw, Aurelien Rougerie, Leo Cullen, Rhys Thomas and Iestyn Thomas.

Touche Rodders. You get the Ulster biscuit bud.
One of the very few teams in Europe - who could.
It makes the Final all the more righteous.
Dyin to meet you for pints mo chara. Im so like me Norn Iron lover - Rav. Only much purdier. Its an Ulster v Leinster thang.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
I would have loved to play ASM, because I would have seen us as favourites with a full strength team. The difference is mental. We believed we could beat them twice in the groups and had no fear- okay, we lost away but we did well against them. It would have been 50/50.
I think we put Leinster up on a pedestal. I think we buy into their hype. Ultimately they are a great, great team like ASM and deserve respect for the quality of rugby they play and what they have achieved. But they are still beatable- not if Ulster are beaten in their minds before they go out there. I think our tight five has the edge on them if we are at full strength and then we'll see... just need to get the mental side of things right. We didn't against Edinburgh. Occasion got to us and we under-performed.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
Its going to be great Notch. Lets stop phhoking around here. This Final will be tight. By design. The joint passion, brought by both sets of fans, will be a showcase for far more than the HC. No one has mentioned this yet. But, these two teams, are replicating one of the oldest club games on the Planet. In the HC Final. Just add History and mash it tall up mon. Its fantastic. Its far bigger than rugby. This occasion could even emulate a certain rugby game versus England. The one played at Croker? The silence for God Save the Queen (in Croke Park roysh?) - was quieter than quiet. It was unbeliveable. I cried that day. A day we grew up a lot. We are all Irish. We just have some past (pre-conceived) differences, that will hopefully evaporate even more, on a sunny day in London.
I just know Rav and I will cry before the Final kicks off. I know that already. We lived through it. Grew through it. And grew out of it.
And its all being celebrated at "HQ" too.
Lets just all enjoy the build-up.
Leinster by 25. Madigan came on, mid-dream.

You'll all be emotionally worn out before you even get to Twickenham
Ulster should turn the clock back and wear red shirts, like in '99.

The scoot back homewards on the tube.
The London regs should meet up for a summer pub crawl. Either Marylebone or Tower Bridge to Borough Market (and maybe on towards Waterloo).
Wouldn't fancy doing it in the sort of weather we've been having recently.
I'm up for that. Could bring the teulu bach up to the smoke for a 'city-break'. As long as Miss G doesnt take it too literal like.

Evening pub Hope everyone is well.
Belated congrats to Ulster and Leinster
Busy, busy few days and I'm shattered! I'm just gonna take my and slump in one of the comfy chairs. If I'm still there at 8.00 am tomorrow will someone please chuck me out the door. Thanks.
And a summer pub crawl sounds grand, you could twist my arm

Aw, Gibbo man, it's going to be special. So, so special.
Maybe so Hound! But I think Humphreys Snr. has banned mention of 1999. Stop harking back to old glories and go and create some new ones is the message from Ulsters Head Honcho to his coaches and players.
It is going to be a very emotional day, if Ulster win especially. My first season as a season ticket holder was 2007/2008. Ulster were bottom of the league for almost the entire season, we only just pipped Connacht to 9th place and Heineken Cup rugby... there were reports of fights between certain players, disruptive influences in the dressing room, the coaching was all over the place, discipline was non-existent. Rory Best, Paddy Wallace and Stephen Ferris all had bigger money offers from other clubs; Biarritz wanted Best, Montpellier wanted Wallace- the French clubs would have asset stripped us as thoroughly as they have done some of the Welsh teams and it would have been a long, long way back. The only reason for those guys to stay is that Ulster Rugby means so, so much to them.
So if I see those guys who rolled up their sleeves in the darkest of times and just got on with bringing us back up to where we are today celebrating a Heineken Cup win... man, I don't think I'm going to be able to keep it together. Tears will be shed, dances will be danced, hugs will be exchanged- and thats just the fans.
Just hope the players can put the emotion of the occasion aside until the final whistle blows.

Do me a favour Leinster. Send yer kids to Dave Parade on Saturday and I'll support ye on the Heino final day. I'm undefeated watching Leinster in stadiums roysh. Ye can't sniff at that stat (beat Cardiff, beat Dragons and beat Northampton)
Thanks in advance

Still no indication as to whether I'm involved tomorrow, but I've enjoyed the buildup and training again immensely. Getting near the fittest I've ever been. Loves it.

Glas/swanny - a summer pub crawl doesn't have to be in London. So long as its not in Brum!
There will be plenty heading over to France in August, sadly I won't be able to make that. Too many on my team take their hols with the kids then, and I'm needed at work.
Welsh beer fest on 8th June is booked though.
Very impressed last year

Munsty, I have a bit of a major fascination with the Burj. I was amazed by it when I went, but didn't go up it. I want to watch the new Mission Impossible just to see him climbing on it. Stunning building. I know that's quite nerdy, but it really is amazing. Hope you have a blast.

Its all lovely. And all. But as yer online Leinster Attorney, Id strongly advise ye to psychologically prepare to lose and just enjoy the day out in London. Do some shopping an tings. To take yer mind off it and wander round Hyde Park. And stuff.
Limerick? Dublin? Then London? Ye goys must be getting vertigo at this stage. Id hate to steal that misguided thunder. T'would be crass to do so.

Hound, of anybody can call a pub crawl it's you. By the 8th June this blasted audit will be over and I may be looking for a release.
Chester is a cracking little town for a blow out. I've even had a blast in Stratford. My mate knows a good place in Evesham, and there's always Brizzle.

Hound, I agree with Glas, your pub knowledge is without equal. You live in London yet you know about the Cat and Fiddle!
I'd be happy to have a trip to the big smoke. Though I have just worked out that there are 8 pubs within 5 minutes walk of my house! A classic case of ignoring what's on your doorstep, with a couple of exceptions! They're not all great though
And Chester is utterly lovely, great place!

After witnessing Leinster B/C robbing us last year at RP, I don't expect to win.
I am already annoyed about the match anyway, as Darren Edwards has cast aside Tovey and Martyn Thomas again. They should be given a chance to play their last games at home I think. Others are.

I just lifted this from the Heineken Cup article. Pot Hale has suggested that the pools should be by country and this is the Irish one: -
Pool 1
Leinster
Ulster
Connacht
Munster
Do my eyes deceive me or are Connacht listed as the third best team in
Ireland
Could happen soon actually. Give them regular HC rugby and they will grow

Evening, amigos. Well, what lovely day here in deepest Perthsire. Mowed the lawn in shirt sleeves, even considered changing into shorts!!
Thanks for all your input, seems my bro has managed to get a ticket for the final. What is the score with the pre and post match meets? 'cause, if numbers allow, I will be mob handed with my bro and his mates - makes 6 of us altogether. Afraid Bert's mates are Ulstermen - sorry, Hugh. (heh, heh - not really)

Could happen soon actually. Give them regular HC rugby and they will grow
God forbid we get to play sides from different rugby cultures and mingle with fans of different nationalities!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Cross Keys
Glas, from memory Evesham had two decent pubs. The Trumpet, err and the name of the other one escapes my memory!!
Chester is a place I've never been to, but would very much like to see. Maybe some time this year.
Munsty, if 'Declan and friends' (well, him and his mate) are playing Fibbers on Thursday then you'll enjoy it. A rollicking evening right enough . Keep your eye on the filmed backdrop - hilarious. Gawd, I wish Ireland still fielded a 7s team. The fans added so much to to the craic in Dubai back in 03 & 04.
You could also check out The Irish Village on the other side of Dubai creek. I love the work that went into that bar, with the carved wood, stained glass and all. It's a bit quieter these days, with the expansion of the city along the coast, but I love the place. The Irish stew is pretty damn good too.
You can only go about 2/3 up the Burj I think. I've walked up higher mountains in Wales with much better views at the top
Whatever you do, enjoy!

4th best team in Ireland?
Did they get promotion last year, or did I miss something?

Morning all
Hope all is well this morning, just had to wake swanny and send her on her way, she was curled up in the corner with a copy of Loaded a jug of creme de mont and three marmite sambos
Coffee and tea is brewing and I've just slaughtered the pig so Bacon will be on its way soon

Puma, I think that it would be fine for your bro to come with you beforehand (private room) and for his mates to attend afterwards (open venue), but that's just my own personal view and I'll happily go with the general opinion.perthshirepuma wrote:Evening, amigos.
Morning all, usual for me pls: &
Not the best start to the day for me - two for two on blue screens of death on PCs that I've tried to log into - thank god for my macbook!

blue screens of death
Is that the Scotch version of being black balled?
Nice night last night, even got a fire going. Looks a decent day so far. The birds sound relieved.
