Barrel's Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub & Restaurant, Luderitz
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat. The pub has stayed in Africa this week as part of its build up to the Heineken Cup final, and attached itself to Barrels restaurant in Luderitz, Namibia, known for its beer, Eisbein and sing-a-longs.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the pictures of Simon Danielli, Federico Aramburu and the possibly Auckland-bound Joe Schmidt.

As long as people buy into this tribal, parochial, small minded tripe, and many do, big Georgie North and the English scrum is going to keep pushing us around the place.
Only when we're all ready to stand shoulder to shoulder for real .... fans, media and players..... will we add to our embarressing return of 2 GSs and break our RWC hoodoo....

I have the opportuinity to go for a new role in my department. it would be another step up but I’d be dealing with an area that I currently have little experience in. I’m in a real dilemma here, not sure what to do. They say you make your own luck don’t they, grasp the nettle and all that, nothing ventured nothing gained… ah my heads wrecked!!

Mick - is the own downside that you currently are inexperienced?
If so its an easy choice.

Re: Barrel's Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub & Restaurant, Luderitz
No the downside is that I might not find it as interesting. But it’s more challenging and it would be another promotion (2 in 9 weeks if I got it).
You know what. Fugg it, I’m doing it.

No, it's a product definition in our hardware business. Probably a better long term prospect than software which is downloadable and probably won't be sold in retail outlets in 10 years.

Ah no I love the Heineken Cup and I love attending neutral games too so its no biggie for me.
Im happy that I can meet up with you lot. Originally I had a busy schedule of landing in Luton at 10.30 and being on my way back to Ireland less than 12 hours later.
But we have a lot more overnight guests than we thought so I get to stay overnight now which is a bonus - get to meet up with all this lot probably.
This will be my 4th Heineken Cup final and I've only see Munster once.

The only ever European Cup Final I've been to before is the won Ulster won in 1999. I'm excited to see what a very, very different experience the whole day is now as compared to 13 years ago. 13 years ago it was wall to wall Ulster fans and a very small contingent of travelling French fans.
At the weekend it will maybe be as much as 75-80% neutral fans from all over Europe. That's exciting because I've never been to a XV aside rugby event like that.

3rd tier of French rugby. A massive shame for a club who had Fabien Galthier, Yannick Jauzion, David Skrela, etc.

OK serious question......
Has anyone here had any experience of subsidence on a property?

US Colomiers? They are a small club had a really, really good team for a while that just never sealed the deal. They had won the European Challenge Cup they year before they played Ulster in the Final. After getting to the Final against Ulster they competed in the next two Heineken Cups but never reached the Finals again. They got to the Final of the Top 14 the next year though. Lost to Stade Francais.
Now? They are in the third tier of French rugby. A real fall from grace for a side that reached three finals in three seasons between 1998 and 2000.
We never really rated them at the time, once we beat Stade Francais the consensus was we'd beaten the best team in Europe. But looking back they had a really good team. They had David Skrela on the bench! Fabien Galthie was their big star. Similar to us and David Humphreys; homegrown team punching above their weight with one or two local heroes and internationals.
Closest thing to the Final in 1999 was the semi-final this year with Edinburgh, nobody really expected those two teams to be there

I remember very well as I had a rather.... ...unfortunate conversation with him one time and then realised I had been posting in MrP's account by accident which just made things sooooo much worse!

Surely no one expected Munster to reach the final in 2000 either?

The shame is they, and all their other good players, all left in the space of about three years for richer French clubs.

Its a tough place to have a small club. In Colomiers you are 11km from Toulouse and certainly Skrela and Jauzion didn't have far to go to end up there.
