9 Francois Hougaard, caps 15
8 Pierre Spies, caps 47

Replacements:
16 Adriaan Strauss, caps 9

19 Keegan Daniel, caps 1
20 Ruan Pienaar, caps 51
21 Pat Lambie, caps 11
22 Wynand Olivier, caps 34
I am surprised and happy to see Eben etzebeth in the starting XV and Strauss on the bench, Meyer has gone for a 4-3 split on the bench which is interesting. The pack has 160 combined caps with 4 debutants, the back line has a combined cap of 302 caps.
I am actually rather impressed with Meyer's selections. The English may see this pack as vulnerable and inexperienced, but I think it is a rather exciting pack. full of mobility and physicality.
England Team:
15 Mike Brown, caps 3
14 Chris Ashton, caps 23
13 Manusamoa Tuilagi, caps 10
12 Brad Barritt, caps 5
11 Ben Foden, caps 26
10 Owen Farrell, caps 5
9 Ben Youngs, caps 17

Englamd are tackling too high most of the time. Poor technicque, especially when tackling strong lads.
That was NOT a swinging arm to the head. Skin is exagerating. Candyass.

Congratulations to SA. We kept with them in the 1st half, but they turned it on in the 2nd half and were definitely the better team.
The scrum most certainly needs some work. I want to see Flood start the 2nd test, sharper passing from Youngs and more runners giving him options.

Cigar time for the Boks supporters.
This was tight. Joseph should have been on in the midfield when Barrit went off.

Re: Springboks vs England, squad announcements and matchday thread.
Mears and PDJ are awful. Absolutely awful.
Lancaster is as fecking clueless as all the other lumpen headed buffoons we've had over the last decade. Why needed some grunt to beat SA. That meant people like Garvey. Instead, we get a tight five that now includes Mears, PDJ and Palmer. None of which are physical enough.
We're probably not good enough to beat a team like South Africa anyway, but with these sort of selections, we'll never win anything.

Not so sure the Boks turned it on the the 2nd. But they certainly took advantage of opportunities and England did not.niwatts wrote:Congratulations to SA. We kept with them in the 1st half, but they turned it on in the 2nd half and were definitely the better team.

Agree, though, Flood needs to start the next test. The series is still all to play for.

Typical Steyn. I've always thought he was a dirty cynical S of a B. Almost every game i see him in I want to see him get a shoeing. Top player though.

Re: Springboks vs England, squad announcements and matchday thread.
good try by foden,
joseph looked good for the 2 minutes he was on.
maybe a fairer score as it was close throughout, SA just pulling it out towards the end.
england still lack any attacking flair but have a solid defence

22-17
Great game, well done England, played really well.
Bok look good, lots of improvements for both teams. I think England need to reshuffle the team, its not right, no creativity in midfield.
Flood in, maybe look at a different inside centre option... Twelvetrees maybe?

I agree... England aren't going to outmuscle the Boks on their home turf....when they upped the pace there at the end they showed they could open SA up.

Well done South Africa, they deserved it as they were so much better in the second half than us. 22-17, not totally bad for England on this team's first trip to South Africa and we can only get better! Put Flood in for Farrell next Test and put Joesph in for Brown as we need extra pace to counter the Saffers long kicks - something which Brown appears to lack. 1-0, 2 to go and its 3-1 to the SH.
