As rough as Rodgers treatment of Carroll has been - and I think we can all agree it's stunk - lets no go overboard here. His goals record is 1 in 4!
I'd like to have seen him stay because, as been mentioned, he offers an alternative but if he doesn't fit into Rodgers plans or more importantly his football philosophy then why keep him?

I think at West Ham, he'll get the service needed and I'm not convinced that Borini and Suarez will be getting that many goals on their own this year, I'm hoping that lots of people chip in with goals.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
I can see Suarez getting 15 PL goals at least. As long as he avoids silly little suspensions which does worry me with him.
Carroll will be perfect for West Ham's style of play and their midfield will benefit greatly from his knock downs and flick ons.
Chin up though Crimey. It's not all doom and gloom...is it?

I don't know, watching this performance....
Getting the Dempsey deal done, and hopefully signing another attacker as well as beating Arsenal would definitely raise my spirits.

Bringing in Daniel Sturridge on loan is the answer apparently.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
My delight at the departure of Charlie Adam is on par with the loss of Christian Poulsen. Always thought Adam was over-rated, looked unfit and made Paul Scholes look like the poster-boy for clean tackling. When Scotland played Brazil in a friendly a while back he was really shown to be out of his depth at the top level and why he was signed by LFC is still a mystery. However, good luck to him, but I shan't be shedding any tears for Charlie
I do agree that Carroll has been given a rough ride but I appreciate Rodgers' stance on him. However, are Sturridge/ Dempsey likely to be 20+ goals a season players?

I'd be happy with the signing of Dempsey, but to let Carroll go on loan and sign Sturridge on loan I'd be very unhappy with. Sturridge is the most selfish player I've ever seen, he's been living off one good run of form for nearly a year now.
I imagine players like Suarez and Gerrard, and Borini, who feed off give and gos will find Sturridge incredibly frustrating.

Only in front of goal, the fact that he can score sublime goals but struggles with easy chances is his most frustrating quality. I don't think he's selfish, he's quite good at laying it off to others and creating chances and spaces for other people.

Anzhi
Young Boys
Udinese
I hope Rodgers takes all the cups seriously this year, they are a good morale booster.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Always felt Suarez was frustrated with players he felt we're not on a par with him. I noticed his reluctance to play one twos with the likes of Kuyt (God love him but he was NOT blessed with silky skills)
As for Sturridge, if he's going to persist with his "double step-over to get past the defender on the right" tactic, LFC will be begging Rushie to come out of retirement.
Think I'd prefer Dempsey but my concern is that if he's behaving like a sulky teenager with Fulham, is he going to be any better if things go wrong at Anfield?

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
I think completing the Dempsey deal needs to be done this window and quickly. £7 million was accepted from Aston Villa, so if Rodgers can get him for that great.
Then he needs to move quickly to get a striker (please not Sturridge) to fill the hole left by Carroll, as Rodgers himself said that there needs to be 3 senior strikers. Not sure who though, best if they can sign somebody who can play across the front free like Borini and Suarez.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
What do you Liverpool fans think of Hearts' performances over the 2 legs? I thought they were good at Tynecastle, a bit unlucky with the OG. Then at Anfield they were great defensively and were a bit toothless although they received a helping hand (in more ways than 1) with the goal. Shows the SPL isn't quite as bad as it's made out to be.

They played very well in the second leg (didn't see the first), I think they were unlucky not to get more out of the game as although Liverpool had a lot of the possession they never really threatened.
They were quite clever and targeted Downing at left back and it paid off quite a few times.

What a complete and utter joke. Fair enough Spurs got Sigurdsson, but to let Dempsey slip through our fingers because we refuse to pay £7 million is pathetic. He wanted to join Liverpool for Christ's sake!
If they don't manage to sign anybody before the deadline, serious questions have to be asked.
Dirk Kuyt: Assaidi
Craig Bellamy: Fabio Borini
Maxi Rodriguez: Nobody
Andy Carroll: Nobody
Charlie Adam: Joe Allen
Jay Spearing: Nuri Sahin (loan)
The main problem of last year, finishing chances has not only not been improved on, I think the team looks weaker in that regard this year. How they can let Andy Carroll go without a guaranteed back up is ridiculous.
Really really frustrated with the management of the club so far.

Rubbish. He didn't put a high enough bid in. £6 million he went for. A player who scored more goals than any other player on our team last year went for £6 million. Aquilani went for more!

I'm going to put it out there and say as a whole the squad looks weaker than last year.
The first XI is probably marginally stronger, but the squad as a whole is worse off.

Really Really frustrated , how can we not seal any deals the "people upstairs who were working so hard to get these signings in the door " what happened ?
It has made us look a laughing stock if you ask me , that we cant afford 6 million for a player we had already announced we had signed a few months ago !
This has only put more pressure on Rodgers head

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Question for Liverpool fans,
did you really think Dempsey was going to be that important a player for you? Fair enough if you wanted another striker, but as a neutral it all seemed like a lot of hype around him, one good season last year at the age of 29 but I wouldn't back him to get a side higher than mid-table.
Looks from where I am like Rodgers wasn't given the cash he needed, but I don't think Dempsey was a big loss. To be honest, the way Rodgers sets his teams up, goals are supposed to be able to come from anyone anyway.

To be fair Dempsey has been decent for 3 or 4 years now and would have chipped in with his fair share of goals. Our loss is definitely Spurs' gain. I rate him highly.

The thing for me personally is that Dempsey was a signing that looked nailed on yet couldn't be done , it didn't matter who it was to me. Although i do think he would of added a few goals and been a good marketing player for the US .
Ayre and the board need to come out and explain things to the fans not let it all hang on Rodgers shoulders .

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
It's not Clint Dempsey that's the issue, it's the fact that NOBODY was brought in. Fair enough if another striker and midfielder were signed, but we got nobody.
The fact that the board weren't willing to stump up £6 million for somebody who seemed to be touted as our main summer target is ridiculous. Should never have left it to deadline day anyway.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread
Or to look at it the other way, the board didn't rate him higher than x-million and weren't prepared to overspend on a player yet again. It might look like a lack of spending power but I think that intentionally or not you've dodged a bullet, he has all the makings to me of another decent player at a club he's settled at, but neither good nor young enough to step up a level, at a more ambitious club and in new surroundings. It was all hype, and transfers on hype are never a good idea.Kenny wrote:NedB-H

Do agree that it needs a board statement though, else another manager may find himself up against it before he's even started. Needs to keep the more temperamental fans on his side.

I'd like to see us try for Ivan Klasnic if he is still available.
I don't see how we can cope with just Borini and Suarez, when Borini seems to be used more as a winger. Rodgers cannot rely on Adam Morgan.
