The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Antananarivo Arms, Madagascar
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Antananarivo Arms Virtual Rugby Pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made it's way to Madagascar, where 35,000 raucous fans recently watched the home side upset Namibia in a 110-point thriller.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of the Madagascan team war dance, Japan/NRL-bound Sonny-Bill Williams, Bradley Wiggins and the prematurely-retired Mark Boucher above the bar.

Fairly inspiring speech by this man, he has a great story and the move to sign him by the team was quite classy.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Antananarivo Arms, Madagascar
Rory was a Cork blown-in. If you are not born in Cork, you will always be a blow-in. Same in Limerick. You have to be in-bred to qualify. I knew a Dub who spent 40 years in Limerick, they still called him a blow-in. Its the same in Cork. It was because he was the 1st real Irish World Rock Star, they began to own him in retrospect. Had he failed, he would have stayed a Noordie.
Rory was from Dongeal. And he sounded NOTHING like that knacker Keane. (He owns houses in Cork? Caravans more like)
Rory had a lovely soft accent. Also, his Home tribute gigs are always in Ballyshannon. Ive been to 3 of em. Ive been to loads of em around Europe also.
Believe me, I am the resident Rory expert here.
Cork was good to him. Dublin was better for his career. He loved Ulster and played there at the very height of the Troubles - when no other musician would. Young Prods & Kafflics loved him for it. Never any hassle at those gigs, they all rocked under the one freak-flag. Which at the time, was unheard of. That really defined Rory G. His Ulster gigs. He never forgot where he came from. He was the purest defintion of Rock & Roll & R & B. Van Morrison was the same.
But he was really Made in Germany. Rory was... and still is, an Honorary Kraut. They really made him what he was. Bought into him fully. 60/70 % of all fans at tribute gigs around Europe, are made up of German Rory fans. Including this Irish Clog.
So, in effect, he was a Ballyshannon, Cork, Ulster - Kraut.
End of lesson for today.

You're trying to get me to bite Gibbo, with the Keane jibe, so I will. The guy came to a school for Autistic kids recently on top of doing a raffle with a fair bit of match worn gear he had from his playing days. He spent most of the day with the kids of the school. If that's being a knacker and a scumbag then all of us are scum of the earth.

That is one of the most inspirational things for me about Rory. All that guff just didn't matter to him, all he cared about was the rock & roll. And so did the people who came to hear him. Nobody cared about any of that when Rory was on the stage.

+1.
True to the name you took Rory. That's him in a nutshell. He coulda had religion, or have been provincial and small-minded about it all. He wasnt. Everyone owned him. And they still do. That's why he is even bigger now, than he was then. A whole new generation are into him because of it. Thats the very essence of it all about him.

'In a hilarious misunderstanding, John Terry was asked to repeat evidence that he had been sent off four times in his career.
“Can you say, please, four times?” asked his QC, George Carter-Stephenson.
“Please, please, please, please,” Terry responded.
Guffaws of laughter broke out around the courtroom at the misunderstanding, which was a result of the judge asking Terry to speak up.
The footballer appeared confused by response from the courtroom.'

He is an honorary Cork man, Rory is a hybrid really we can both lay claim to him. Us more so because he would be nothing without his early career which started in Cork You're getting wound up easily Rodders! He is both really.
Howletts a cork man?!
Only yanking your chain Thomond. I'm not disputing Cork was his home but his auld boy was from Derry and he was born in Donegal so I suppose people are proud of that link.... some of my older friends used to watch him play in a wee hall in Strabane back in the day, I'm just a blow in fan.....
Agree keano is no knacker, man tells it like it is..like Mr T..the rest of the country is a shower of wasters..... ....

It was somewhat true, not really now. You can't really ignore those problems like . They have done a lot to improve things but there are a few problems there. Cork has a lot of problems too, every city does.

I bet ya wear em inside too Rodders. I bet your babe of a missus beats you up.
I wear purdy frocks. People leave me alone, for some reason...
Is it me or are Irish Cities getting so much worse? When I was in Dublin, I had to pass thro some rough terrain, on the way to the Mater. There was barely a day when I didnt see something or someone, very dodgy. Nothing happened me, but man, I didnt feel comfortable. Was always on my guard.
I never feel that way in the Dam. Even at 3 in de mornin.
Just talked to Billy. He's just beautiful that guy. So is his missus - The Viking Lady. We laughed a lot. I think thats a good sign. Sounds totally grand. TG.
