aston villa thread
First topic message reminder :
well after the terrible frustrating long ball defend defend mcleash season ,villa have now a good prospect in Paul Lambert . when Martin oNeil left i was at first gutted like many villa fans but then when u add up all the average players he bought along with high wages then u can see why learner decided enough was enough .so Martin walked out . next come along gerard houllier a few weeks late in the season . lots of villa fans didnt take to him because of the early results but i liked the way we played under him and when he bought Darren bent and the players settled in his style of play we rocketed up the league .even beating Liverpool in revenge after that 4 nil beating and his infamous badly chosen words that didnt sit well with villa fans .poor health parted another manager . then come Alex .no more needs to be said on that . so now we have Paul . a few good signings come in and i for one now feels we can compete in cup games and perhaps a eighth position in league .

Re: aston villa thread
I was there last night(missed first 20 mins).
Very dissapointing again.
No width in second half, which is what we needed.
Ball kept going back when it should have been going forward.
Bannan & Delph, 2 of the worst players I've seen in a villa shirt in some time.
This defence is so shocking, what do they do in training.
Millwall friday night, probably end our fa cup run, although definatly need to concentrate on the league.
Hope to christ we beat Newcastle.
Jesus its come to something, when a Norwich fan is cracking jokes about us.
Jack. how, in your opinion are our fans dreadful? Some are poor indeed. Just wanted to know bud.

C'mon Villa lets get the win tonight.
Yes I know the league is more important, but would still like to get far in the fa cup.
A win tonight win bring confidence for Newcastle on tuesday, which is a massive game to say the least.

Well we've already knocked you out of onecompetition.
Another shocking defeat. Out of 2competitions in 3 days.
Young guys not up to it.
Lamberts just seems clueless now.
Not going to sign anyone by 31st.
Massive game tuesday.
Not confident at all.
Seasons going from bad to worse.

Lambert needs to go before its too late. With the young squad villa have this could be a perfect job for Nigel Adkins, however is it too much pressure for a man who doesn't have a lot of Premiership experience?
Alan Curbishley should go to Villa.

Re: aston villa thread
The loss to Bradford was a shocker but tonight's game was a nothing game for Villa just as the Brighton game was for Newcastle two weeks ago. Nothing's changed. It's a blessing in disguise going out the cup and now you can focus on the EPL and survival. How Bent has no played at all this season is just astonishing, Lambert should be sacked just for that. Bent = goals = survival....simple as that. I think your youngsters are just appaling and that Clark is woeful.
It's a massive game on tuesday against us. We haven't won away all season and I reckon you will be up for it. Probably a draw but if we win then we will be safe easy. I'm sure if you go down you will be financially okay and the bidding wars for Bent & Benteke would be interesting. I'd love either at NUFC.

I genuinely hope that Villa stay up, especially at the expense of QPR.
I wouldn't touch Alan Curbishley with a bargepole and it baffles me why he's linked with PL jobs all the time. Lambert will see this season out.

Lambert has been told his job is safe, even if we go down.
Thats what I heard.
If we do go down at least Lambert has experience at getting clubs to the prem

I think they'd be stupid to sack Lambert even if you do go down. You need stability. From McLeish to Lambert must be quite a culture change in the club, takes a lot of time to do that.
If you do sack him who else would you get? Adkins? Can't see him doing better than Lambert

May well be to late for a new manager.
Cant sign anyone.
Who ever it would be, would be a massive test.
RDM would be the man.
I'm hoping this week will be a real kick up the ass.
Lambert needs to pull the squad together now.
We need a senior player to step up aswell and have a serious talk with the squad.
That man is club captain Petrov.
I feel sorry for him apart fromm his illness, he has to watch this rubbish.
If we go down we wont be back up for a long time imo.

Lambert has alienated the available senior players.
Seriously anyone (including you or I) would have done better with villa this season.
He's made an absolute unadulterated mess of things there.

I just find it staggering how he thinks we can stay up with this defence.
Our keepers and forward players are fine.

Another defeat. Closer to the trap door.
Played well in second half.
Why cant we play well the whole game.
I've always said we would stay up, but now, I dont know.
My heart says we will turn this around, but the head says it'll be championship football next season.
Sad to think if we do go down, we've been in the top division since the 88/89 season.

Didn't realise it was the Euro final, quite an achievement. Frustrating how the Villa youth team are so good but it never seems to translate into club success.

Ben that way for a long time.
Our youth teams are very good.
Like to see a few more of these guys get a push next season(whatever league we're in).
Grealish, Burke, Drennan, Carruthers(palyed a few first team games), these are good young players.
Cant be to far away.
Lambert was there watching.

Pleased with the choice.
Looking forward to the new season happy to leave the old one way behind.
Few signings already, they have all played apart in pre season. Good to see Fonz score, hope Gabby can get back to his old form.
Great to see Guzan have a change of heart.
Was impressed with Weimann last season, hope he can continue his form.
Maybe give another youngster a run out in pre season (Drennan).
With the good players we have, I'm sure Lambert will get them playing to their potential.
I hope to be at Upton Park on the 18th and as many games as I can after that.
A new season ahead a new manager, the doom and gloom around Villa Park has gone(lets hope it stays that way).We were a laughing stock last season, with a new manager getting the best out of the players, i'm pretty confident we can do well next season.
Just reading back this topic(bored at work).

Re: aston villa thread
No way.
Great result. Hav'nt dished out a hammering like that for a while.
Fans were behind the team when they needed them.
Clawed back our goal difference, which was important.
When Sunderland scored, I must admit, I thought, god here we go again.
Even at 3-1 I was'nt to comfotable, considering we have given 2 goal leads away.
Knew Benteke would get a hattrick, was about time.
Great to see Gabby score, breaking Yorke's record.
Thought Lowton had if not the best, then certainly one of his best performances in a Villa shirt.
Sylla was decent to.
Great result, very happy this morning.
Need to get a result saturday at Norwich though.
Still think Wigan have a couple of wins in them.

Think so as well, just hope one of them isn't against Villa - if I couldn't take last night I hate to think how I'll be on the last day if PL football next season isn't assured. Longing for the days of mid-table mediocrity when I could enjoy watching the relegation scramble.
Having said that Newcastle are looking pretty vulnerable, Hammers (a), QPR (a), Arsenal (h) - here's hoping West Ham can do Villa a favour like they did against Wigan, QPR turn it on for their last home game in the Prem & Arsenal need a win to get into/stay in the top 4.

Did'nt know Newcastle's run in. Not the best.
West Ham safe, but tricky place to go to.
QPR will want to win last home game in prem.
Arsenal may need the win to secure top 3/4.

Amazing record of winning games they need to, that's 5 in a row against the other relagation-threatened teams (Norwich, Sunderland, Stoke, QPR, Reading), 6 if you include West Ham.

Re: aston villa thread
We're safe thank god.
Now on to next season.
BENTEKE
Cannont sell him. Hope he stays, has been great for us this season, he will get better.
Says he is happy with us, am sure he didnt want his last game in a Villa shirt to be one where he was sent off.
Also if he does go, who's to say he will do better at another club.
Look at Downing, Young, gone to bigger clubs, but been poor.
Have to keep him.
Although the £ signs talk in this game sadly.
We shall see over the summer.
Also need a left back, centre back, maybe another midfielder.
Who I think will leave the club, Makoun, Dunne, Bent(want him to stay though), Bowrey, Herd.
I think we can push for a top half place next season if the above happens.
If we beat Wigan sunday, I think we can finish as high as 11th.

Re: aston villa thread
Hope Benteke stays for at least another season, has 3 years to go on his contract so no desperate need to cash in yet.
As scary as this season's been the confidence they will have gained from seeing it through, especially in so many crunch games towards the end, will stand them in good stead. They've at least developed an ability to recover from defeats - hopefully won't see anything like the 8-0 humiliation again but if we do, I don't think the aftermath will be quite as horrific. I think during that part of the season Villa conceded 17 goals without scoring one.
Just hope they can pick points off the top teams, has been a perennial problem for Villa but it's annoying how easily they get rolled over. A total of 1 point out of a possible 30 against the top 5 this season is a bit embarrassing.

I was just writing something on Villa and found it very hard to think who Lambert would be looking to sign. He has scouts in foreign places unearthing players I'd never think of, probably never heard of.
However, domestically I think both Anderson of Man United and recently released Franco Di Santo scream out as Lambert types.

Home one I like, away terrible.
Yeah, these 2 guys Oroke(something like that), and Helenius, never heard of.
But then again, never heard of Benteke until last august, he didnt turn out to be to bad.
Will see how they do.
Anderson & Di Santo, no thanks.

I dont rate Di Santo particularly but on a free, young and always mr "potential" I could see just Lambert taking him under his wing. Anderson I think would add snap to the midfield, really feel like Villa need that. Although I also think they could do with a new wise head in there to replace Petrov, someone who isnt a guaranteed starter but will add nous and experience when needed.

I heard Anderson wants to move back to Brazil to enhance his chances of making the World Cup squad and get first team action. Can't ever see him going to Villa. Di Santo is not great, he scored the odd wonder goal at Wigan and then would go missing for months. He's a 5-10 goal a season man......not great. Can see him ending up in Italy. Must admit, I'm looking forward to seeing Tonev.
