aston villa thread
First topic message reminder :
well after the terrible frustrating long ball defend defend mcleash season ,villa have now a good prospect in Paul Lambert . when Martin oNeil left i was at first gutted like many villa fans but then when u add up all the average players he bought along with high wages then u can see why learner decided enough was enough .so Martin walked out . next come along gerard houllier a few weeks late in the season . lots of villa fans didnt take to him because of the early results but i liked the way we played under him and when he bought Darren bent and the players settled in his style of play we rocketed up the league .even beating Liverpool in revenge after that 4 nil beating and his infamous badly chosen words that didnt sit well with villa fans .poor health parted another manager . then come Alex .no more needs to be said on that . so now we have Paul . a few good signings come in and i for one now feels we can compete in cup games and perhaps a eighth position in league .

Re: aston villa thread
Di Santo definitely isnt great, but on a free and with his age I could see him being a Lambert squad addition.
Not surprised on Anderson, I really think something brilliant could be made of him though. Remember him playing brilliantly against Arsenal a few years ago and nullifying Fabregas, give him a regular place and responsibility and I think he'd do wonders in this league for a side of Villa's side, although Id imagine he considers himself worthy of the top clubs (wrongly)

Yeah, Anderson is all about fitness. When he's at 90-100% you can see his quality and I remember games where he used to dominate and he's got under-rated passing and through ball ability. Problem is though his fitness levels and Fergie's decision to not play him or trust him week in week out ahead of Carrick, Scholes or Fletcher at that time. Understandable. He's like Rooney, needs games to flourish, otherwise he'll just go missing for months. Can see him back in Brazil or maybe in Spain for a top club. I think it's always difficult to accept a move to a lower team after United and I guess you always see yourself as a top level player.

I'd expect Lambert to take a couple from the lower leagues as well, he has a good eye for a player

I would rather him give some of our youngster ago(as thats the age he likes to sign), that won the next gen.
Michael Drennan
Graham Burke
Samir Carruthers
Jack Grealish(who was on the bench this season).
Those are 4 that id love(hope) to see this season, hopefully if not this, then next.
Even if its off the bench the odd time, or if we get a few injuries, just to give them experience.

Have to keep hold of Benteke.
Looking forward to see how the new guys do.
Yeah, hopfully couple of the young guys get a run out.
Least we've made a few signings this summer.

Well with the money from him and Bent we should get in someone else world class:)
Not to sure what the championship is, as we've never been there:)
Shed some light on it for us Olly, and you Nick.

Good to see Helenius score on his debut.
Also Lambert gave all the new signings a run out.
Key factor for pre season is the fitness and for the squad to gel.
Results dont bother me, as long as the new guys settle in quickly.
Really hope these guys do well this season and Villa on a whole.

Great news that Tekkers has signed a new deal.
Was only a matter of time before the big dog changed his mind.
Few players signing new contracts.
Great to see.
Definatly do better than last season.

Great news he has resigned. Will this speed up Bent leaving?
Also, do you think Lambert will do much more business? Still could do with an attack minded midfielder in my opinion.

Re: aston villa thread
Apparently, Benteke asking for the move held up the Bent deal due to the uncertainty. Now Benteke is staying, you want to get rid of Bent, however we've been p***** off with your hardball attitude on the fee and his wage and now we've withdrawn our interest in Bent apparently and now are focused on Gomis.
That's how I understand it but you never know.

Rawa.
Not to sure. We've signed 6 player(ok none of them world class), but will all play a part.
Few players signed new contracts.
Centre midfielder would be good.
Main priority was getting Benteke staying, than Bent going.
Bent will go, someone will snap him up.
To be honest didnt know to much about Newcastle interest.
We have Helenius who has looked good in pre season so far.
Sooner he goes the better for the club.
Shame it didnt work out for him.
If the manager does'nt want him, then best he goes asap.

strange why bent been to so many clubs . the guy scores goals so it must be something to do with his attitude . wound be nice to keep him for the bench but at his age he would want to play regular . hope we get two more signings . players with experience Rooney would be nice lol

Re: aston villa thread
Think there was a few first teamers playing.
Heard second goal was a mix up athe the back between Vlaar & Clark.
Result isnt important in pre season.
About the fitness and new guys settling in well.
Think we have Newport County away this weekend.

Good win last night at Crewe 5-1
Weimann, Benteke(3) Bacuna.
10 changes made at half time, good to give people a run out, fitness, players settling in, what its all about.
Bacuna's goal was a bit special.

the bent saga taking its time .clubs holding out to get him on the cheap knowing villa want to get shot of him . i do feel sorry for him tho . well as much as i can feel sorry for someone on 50 grand a week . Ireland never wanted to come here and apart from one or two good games it really showed . hope it resolves soon because i think we would have one or two New signings in the bag before the transfer ends . Im getting excited . 3 more sleeps for the gunners

Lambert rejects man city loan out Barry .too right , great player when he was at villa but we dont want another man city player who doesn't want to be here . Lambert wants young , hungry players not ex internationals ridiculously high wages . there only two or three premier teams that can dish out wages like that .

Re: aston villa thread
If you weren't paying all his wages, Barry would have been a decent signing. I don't know what his attitude was like at the end of his time at Villa, but I got the impression that he still loved the club but the Manchester City deal was too good to turn down.
I felt last year that Villa really lacked the cutting edge and experience to get the results, Barry would be a good player to have as long as he was on low enough wages. I'd say he's an improvement on a lot of your midfielders, he'd be a good replacement for Petrov.

Lambert and moyes complaining about the fixtures . too be fair with villa there is just cause with chelsea being moved but at the end of the day (footballing term) you still got to play the big four twice a year . ok it be nice to have 3 weaker teams and get 9 points but it would be harsh if fans get on the teams back if we dont do well against the 3 we got . good luck tomorrow villa . hoping a draw at least

Dont like it when managers moan about the fixture list.
These are pros after all, should be able to play 3 games in a week from time to time.
As for tomorrow I actually think we'll sneak the win.
2-1 or 3-2.

Draw would be a great result after last seasons performance.
Think we'll lose by the odd goal.
