First topic message reminder :

Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The Pub has made its way to Amsterdam in honour of original publican Gibson who is finally back in gainful employment. One small step for man ...

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of former Corso Marauder Lawrence Dallaglio or young ice hockey prize winner (thanks to the v2ers) Chris Boyd.

I'm just thinking, I'm so glad a player of the calibre of Lobbe is playing in this comp. Finally an annual stage for a player of his quality to show that to the world. I really do believe that he is the best 8 in the world alongside Read.

It's very important for Argentina to be competitive this first year but from there their style of play has to evolve because if they continue with this style, a team as smart as the All Blacks will figure them out quickly.

Is Weepu really better than Kerr-Barlow? Or is it experience that they want from him?

Hernandez's banana kick? Ridiculous, sublime... ridiculously sublime!

I've got to say; I'm loving this game. Some of the tackling from Argentina is brutal. Players throwing themselves into contact with no regard for their own safety. Just massive physicality.

Hey question folks...anyone watch the Munster game yesterday? What was the refs calls at the scrum about? Instead of the crouch, touch, pause and engage it was crouch, pause and set. Has there been a change?

clap ABs but the Pumas can be very proud of a great effort guinness

All it seems is they've changed the wording without wanting to actually do anything to fix the scrum.

Think my earlier comment yesterday pretty much summed it up! Pure tripe, and not good enough. It might be the first time Kazhakstan have lost at home in like 2 years but the performance was pathetic. McGeady is one of the best at beating full backs and getting into good spots, does jack all after that. Glenn Whelan has to be one of the worst players to have amassed nearly 50 caps in a long time. Simon Cox shouldn't be in the team to begin with playing him out of position on the left wing for the second time was possibly the most idiotic thing Trap has done during his tenure. He has one of the better wingers in the premiership in McClean sitting on the bench and a very good one in Pilkington sitting at home. Not playing Seamus Coleman at either right back or right full is a mystery, playing O'Dea and St,.Ledger guys who play in America and the Championship is disgraceful. Move O'Shea to centre, Coleman to right full and pick Clark! Ward is our best LB but that's not saying much. I believe we have some incredibly talented players, the msot we have had in a long time. At present and in the future we will have several extremely good players. I talking the likes of Conor Henderson, Conor Clifford, James McCarthy, Dave Meyler, John Egan, Shane Duffy. As well as plenty of other guys. Trap is not the man to bring this team forward.

He is a symptom of the massvie disease that is the FAI. The worst run organisation in Ireland, don't support their local league at all and pay their CEO 360k a year. 400k until about 3 months ago. They are a disgrace.

Did you see the game? RTE's analysis was superb or at least it was by one person. Brady is blinkered due to his association with Trap. Sadlier may be a bit too dramatic in making his point but he has nailed it here, you don't have to watch all of it but some. He makes some great points.

Thanks for that. Is definitely agree with Richie Sadlier but I don't think he got his point across fully while all Brady seemed to hear was because of one performance he should be sacked.

I just really dislike where the team is going, the way they're playing and the pride of Trappatoni when it comes to admitting he may be doing it wrong. We shouldn't be looking just to qualify but to be the very best team we possibly can and see where that takes us.

Cant believe the shoite Brady & Giles are talking there. Sadlier is talking total sense and is being attacked by has-been gobshoites. This team is not good enough to qualify for any competition. Major embarrassment - as predicted, at the EC. Its needs re-building and it needs to learn to play football. Under a manager with some vision.

Just like Nederland were total shoite at the EC, Van Marwijk(got us to the WC Final) - was dumped. Van Gaal was brought in, ripped up the squad and played nine new players last night. We beat Turkey 2-0 playing some nice football. Trap must go. So should the massively overpaid FAI CEO. He's responsible for it all. I feel the same way about the IRFU. Browne AND Kidney to go. I wish O Shea was free to run it and let Schmidt take the coaching job. Dream Team.

I think what was saddest is that Giles seemed to agree with Sadlier but just seemed to not have the fight in him. You can see how downbeat Irish fans have become. People were able to get over the performances because of the results but the moment, those went at the Euros, I think it knocked most people back.

Like I said before, we should be aiming to be the best we can be, not merely just do enough to qualify.

Exactly Munsty, but the problem is, we keep looking for a quick fix - generation after generation. Instead of taking a long hard look at our setups from top to bottom and restructure, to ensure we can be the best we can. As T says, the FAI ignore the LOI. That is where they must start. And with the 1000's of clubs that feed it. But the fans also ignore it, follow and spend all their shekels on English sides and still want us to a have a competent international team at the big 2 comps. Its not realistic is it Ted? Irish soccer needs to look at Denmark. That's a realistic level and setup we could strive for.

I cant see it happening. Hopefully it will and is - in rugby, but soccer?

Afternoon all! How is everyone?

I have had a lush day so far.

Walked over to the village next door to go to a village country craft fair and vintage car/tractor display at a local farm. It was to raise money for the Welsh air ambulance service as one of the local guys I went to school with was in a nasty quad bike accident last year and if it wasn't for them, then he really wouldn't be with us any longer. Think we've managed to raise a lot of money for it too so all good Smile

Just an amazing day of sunshine, cider, great stalls and friends. Seen so many people today who I literally haven't seen for years!

One of life's beautiful days.

Hope everyone's been having great days too Hug

Grand day out at the Richmond Athletic Ground, enjoyed Pete's company for a high scoring game, quick pint in the Triple Crown, London Scottish lost comfortably to the better team but still managed to secure a TBP at the death by not giving up. Fair play

Spoiler:

Good to see Reve and hope it went well.

Well said T.

There are some very good and some very solid players in the Irish setup. Some are not utilised under Trap at all that's my main gripe. He has probably as good talent as nearly any Irish manager has or will have and he will waste it. This team can play ball, just let them do it instead of playign this caveman rubbish.

Fair enough T, but I would question your statement on there being enough good players in the team. Very few footballers in it. McGeady(you love him tho) apart. Doyle is a great link man and works his arse off. I would love to see them play football though. I have seen them try once. I also think foreign managers just don't see that in us and go for the "long ball down the middle, keep yer heid down and defend like phhok" tactics. Charlton was the same - only with far better players that Trap has now. By a mile. Charlton still styfled them. They could have played their way to the World Cup and have still done well. Or better.

Irish soccer needs an Irish manager. But failing that, Id go for Pardew. Think he is top notch. But why would should he take a step down?

Glad you had a lovely day Dreamer. Its great when that happens eh pal? Nice buzz in the Sun with friends. And for a great cause too. Grand. Totally grand. zen cider

Happy memories of the Triple Crown, As. Yet another sublime rugby weekend, orchestrated by yer good self. OK Ale

Aye Gibbo, just people from back home, some of whom I don't think I've seen for about 7+ years, others I only used to get to see every 2 years or so. Just nice to see people from the village that you don't usually see and to see such a good community spirit, tis hard to find in a lot of places these days.

Rugby time now too cider

How'd your first week go? all good?

Love the Triple Crown As. Lovely cider there Wink sounds you got to see some good rugby Smile

Ulster and Ospreys wasting all kinds of field position with handling errors. It's a greasy, wet ball out there. But the early season rust is just as evident.

God, I'm glad all the people who slag off the Pro12 aren't watching this. They'd be having a field day. This is jokeshop rugby from both teams.

Evening all, another fantastic evening for work today, and ive got to deal with lady Gaga at Twickenham later, not good for someone who is slightly hungover today. Ah well onwards and upwards.

I see Leinster are bossing it in RDS at the minute, 33-13 tries from Jennings Andrew Conway and Ben Marshall for Leinster and Steffan Jones for dragons

Dinner of chicken, potato, squash, cabbage, cauliflower and carrots. Everything bar the chicken came from the garden, love it!

This O's v Ulster game is a bit rubbish.
