The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Amsterdam in honour of original publican Gibson who is finally back in gainful employment. One small step for man ...
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of former Corso Marauder Lawrence Dallaglio or young ice hockey prize winner (thanks to the v2ers) Chris Boyd.

Kilkenny. Galway are playing this like a Gaelic Football match, their running angles, and the way they are bringing the sliotar into the tackle and giving. Cork can't do that in either code. They have been doing it for the whole year and it is one of the most innovative and creative bits of management I have seen in any sports

I shall take your word for it! Don't think I've ever watched hurling before.
Argh no we've just had a delivery of wood. Am going to have to make myself look busy in case I'm roped into moving it.....
(it was one of my least favourite things to do growing up, having to shift the wood up to the top of the garden. Sooo so not fun)

A good game of hurling will beat the best most sports have to offer, it is an unbelievable game but not for all.

Yeah my Dad says it's good. Think the scar he's got on his eyebrow is from playing it. Will have to double check with him!
Oho, Chiefs ended the first half 13-12 up away at Saints! Hope they can keep it up and get the win, would be amazing for them.

Is your dad Irish? Or did he live over here? Americans described it last week as " a mix of Lacrosse and second degree manslaughter" somewhat condescending but contains some truth. I wasn't much good at it, but it is a truely marvellous game.

Nah my Dad was born and raised in London, his Dad was Irish and I think they as a family used to travel over a bit when they were younger (my Dad and his siblings like). Think Dad played lacrosse at school so had a go at hurling when he was over. Then again, maybe he just got the injury from lacrosse....

Super goal and I can't emphasis how imprssed I have been with Galway this year, it shows what good management can do for you. Cork football management should be taken notes. That's how you play football, never mind hurling!

A very very good cause Cari, don't think the family who arranged it were expecting it to get so busy, so I'm just really pleased it all went so well. Such a lovely day too

Fair play to you Dreamer sounds like a super cause.
Galway still at it, ahead loving that KK are finally getting caught out for their ditry and cynical tactics. Just desserts.

I'm good, ta. Been very lazy on my time off, but I needed to be. My body seems to have a way of telling me when it's time for me to take time off. I've been pottering around the house, met up with some friends I haven't seen for a while and did a bit of shopping. I got a bargain this morning. Got an official 2012 Olympics Cadbury's mug complete with Hero's chocs inside for 49p. The chocs were lovely and the mug is a nice little momento from the event.

Sounds like a pretty ace way to spend the week to me Cari! Sometimes lazy times are just what's needed Nice one on the mug
Aaah merde, Hartley has just scored for Saints, and that's a BP for them. 24-16 with about 15 mins to go I think.

Saints no8 gets a yellow card on 77 mins,
Try for Chiefs on the 79th min 24 - 21 to Saints now, think there's time for a restart....
Fair do's this one sounds an absolute cracker!

Exeter have pulled it back to three points. Good bonus point for them.
Why though have Sky to announce Man of The Match in the 74th minute? Really annoying.

Replay for the first time in a while, might be the first in my lifetime, first I remember anyway. Pulsating game, Galway changed their tactics and still had it with 2 shocking wides. Why change winning tactics infuraiting!

Thomond - I wouldn't mind getting to catch a hurling game soon, I think I would really enjoy it. Any good games coming up that you could recommend? I am guessing RTE or TG4 do coverage.

The replay of this is on 30th September, TG4 will have club games from October or so on. Highlights of this on RTE 2 at 9:30
You've missed the season really, they are on RTE from May to September every year though, I know it isn't too popular in Ulster but a bit surprising you have never really expereinced any of it!

Re: The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
There was no hurling at my school (despite it being mixed) and the primary sport was rugby, which literally everyone played. Then of course most of the other schools (whether protestant or catholic) seem to have one or the other, not both. Which I hope will change in the future. However a few of my mates did play hurling, before eventually switching to rugby. I never got the chance to actually play it myself though.

Re: The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
I was pretty poor at it, it's a magnificent sport to play and to watch though, scrum halves would be good at hurling, it's all in the wrists. Why TOL was such a hurling talent. It's easy enough to understand too, Galway kind of implemented rugby tactics with a bit off Gaelic football thrown in. They drew the man and gave it. They ran at KK and caused them problems.
They then stopped doing that and it is one of the reasons why they are not holding the trophy a loft right now.

It is going well mate, it is hard work like but I am certainly enjoying it! There is a lot to learn and remember, so I am just trying to take it one step at a time, and asking for help if I don't know what I am doing. The guys I work with are brilliant though and always willing to help.

Just back from a game of squash. Definitely my favourite way of getting fit and boy do I need to get fit. Started the match on fire but by the end was struggling majorly. I should be played at least once a week from now on though and that along with a return to football will increase my fitness and decrease my body weight.
All Ireland final sounded like a cracker. Watching the Saints-Chiefs game on speed by at the moment as I'm going to a BBQ in a bit. Looks like there is some really good quality rugby being played here.

Nice one on the squash Munsty Never played it myself, think it's best not too, knowing me I would either injure myself or whoever I was playing with!
Murray will play Djoko in the final tomorrow in the tennis. Tough tough game for Andy. Really hope he can get it, would finish off a superb year for him in the slams.

Thom. Forums like this are not representitive. By their nature they attract wums and 'my team's better than your team' types. Leave them to it.
Some stuff I've read on here (but moreso the old 606) would make me hate loads of people. But I don't know them, so I couldn't give a rat's arse.
These days I just ignore the trolls. Or post something on their article that tries to encourage proper discussion.

Rodders we will see you in Ravenhill at the bar before and/or after the game. We will be watching with Notch on the Prom. No real plans for after. Probably just hit a bar in town. Went to the Duke of York with Asbo last weekend and it is just beside the hotel. Also I fell in love with the barmaid, so I need to go back to see if she is pining for me

By all accounts Asbo the US don't have much interest in Paralympic sport, it's v v much secondary to the able bodied athletes which I think is a huge shame. Given a country of their size and wealth, they should really be doing much, much better.

Shame on them, Shovey
1. Yes, it is
2. Not for a wee while yet, they are the main act - I'm actually preferring this closing ceremony to the able-bodied one, altho they have to be careful it doesn't just become a Coldplay concert.
Nevermind, we know one of the Kanduko dancers (with CP) who is having the time of her life

I would hazard a guess that people in the US eligible to compete in the Paralympics are seen as 'not winners' in the great scheme of life. Life as seen through the eyes of most Americans.
Their treatment of disabled Vietnam war vets was shocking. Because they lost that war.
That always told me a lot about America.

Hound , it's strange tho, for a society that is tolerant in so many ways, and would like to be thought of as tolerant is so many others, they are missing a massive point imoHound_of_Harrow wrote:I would hazard a guess that people in the US eligible to compete in the Paralympics are seen as 'not winners' in the great scheme of life. Shovey, yes, I do. It's curious, they have a greater % of haves and also of have-nots imo, yet they are by far the quickest to forgive those that try something in work terms when it doesn't succeed. Bankruptcy in the US is no obstacle to getting up and trying again - in the rest of the world, it remains a stigmarugbydreamer wrote:Do you really think the US is tolerant, Asbo?
