The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The Pub has made its way to Amsterdam in honour of original publican Gibson who is finally back in gainful employment. One small step for man ...
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of former Corso Marauder Lawrence Dallaglio or young ice hockey prize winner (thanks to the v2ers) Chris Boyd.

Well lucky he has instilled some sort of belief that none of his other coaches could and deserves a shed load of credit for it.
I think a lot of it has to do with his approach to slams and how he adapted Andy to it, just hope he can get him.to win Wimbledon now

I'm torn now though, I really liked Andy because he was the plucky Scot who always lost the big one, what happens now??

Re: The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
I think Tom Fordyce hits the nail on the head in his article on the Beeb, about how Lendl doesn't feed Andy's aggression/temper tantrums when he has them. He's the only coach Andy's ever had who literally doesn't react. Doesn't smile, doesn't shout...nothing. So I think that keeps Andy on track to just get back to the job in hand instead of indulging him, if that makes sense.
Hoog - he's the plucky Scot who's now winning, you've followed him on his 'journey' (I hate that word), and now you get to sit back and enjoy the success.

Still can't see past Bradley Wiggins, altho Murray, Sarah Storey, Chris Hoy, Kath Grainger and one or two other must be in with a tremendous shoutOzzy3213 wrote:Morning all
What a performance from Andy Murray last night. Just watching him being interviewed and have to say that over the past year my view of him has completely changed. He has been humble but sure of his ability without coming across as cocky. A real champion. Absolutely chuffed for him.
Jayzus Sports Personality of the Year is going to be a tough call this year!!!

Mickado, Just messing around with your spreadsheet at the mo - have you found an easy way to import the data from espnscrum other than copy and paste? The latter requires extensive reformatting, so just wondering if taking the data to a text editor and parsing it there might be quicker?

SPOTY is a public vote and a lot will depend on how each nominee is portrayed. Unfortunately there is a fair bit of "regionalised" voting so that can move things around a bit.
One thing for sure this year there are many more genuine contenders than in previous years.

Re: The Corso Marauders Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Amsterdam
In a year of outstanding british achievement, in my opinion Murray, Rory McIlroy(politics excluded) and Mo Farrah stand above all others. Three guys at the pinacle of their relative sports, with historically significant achievements that people will talk about for years.
Murray, who was already up there before the US open trumps the lot now. Just. A wimbledon final, destroying Fed in the Olympic final and beating Djoc to win the US open is incredible by any stretch. In maybe the greatest era ever in mens tennis Murray is arguably the best player in the world right now.
McIlroy isn't far behind. Destroyed the field at the USPGA to be the 2nd youngest player to 2 majors and has won 3 out of the last 4 tournaments to confirm himself as the best player in the world.
There's been some amazing achievements this year but these guys are something else, far beyond the norm. Way beyond the Lewis Hamiltons and Amir Kahns of this world .
Thats just like my opinion though man

Is the answer Roy? Roy of the Rovers, Roy Keane... er, Roy-Wan Kenobi... okay, I think I'm a bit wide of the mark there.

Being a munster car does that mean that it'll do well in congested traffic (maul) but when it tries to open up it'll be passed by a shinier, newer, blue version and have the white version edging ahead of it too?!

The problem with that colour is that it looks great to start with but fades quite badly.

I am still of the age where I go for whichever has the best offer (i.e cheapest) in the shop Glas, so can hardly say they are "good" (I also don't remember what any of them are called )

Yes Rava, Costa Teguise. Flying out on Sunday for a week.
That reminds me, when I went there last year I was in the air while Wales were playing South Africa in the World Cup. I remember how gutted I was when I overheard someone at baggage collection say we'd lost by a point.
