First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to "sleepy" Roswell New Mexico, take off point for the first ever supersonic free-fall this week.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Felix Baumgartner and Chris Budgen up on the wall.

Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
Taking my lawyers hat off Ozzy, the question I tend to ask myself as a largely reactionary, grumpy old git is 'where are/were the parents?' How many 'blind eyes' have to be turned by those who don't care or worse accepted it as collateral damage in their child's quest for fame, fortune and stardom? One concept in civil proceedings which does not apply in crime is contributory negligence i.e. the impact of a civil wrong is reduced if the other party was partially to blame themselves. The victims and their families need to have that explained to them before the inquiry proceeds.

Taking my custodian helmet off Glas, I couldn't agree with you more. Speaking now as a dad with a child who is theatrical and having attended auditions with her for various shows, some of the other parents absolutely astonish me. It is abundantly clear with many of them that it is in fact the parent and not the child who wants the child to get the part and will go to extreme lengths in order for that to happen. I have no doubt that there have been, are now and will continue to be those parents who choose to turn a blind eye to some dubious practices in order to progress their childs 'career'.

Glas,
It would seem that a significant number of these kids were "looked after" in modern parlence. They were vulnerable or in care or hospital or some sort of institution. Not all I grant you though.

Sorry, on the Savile stuff. I believe an investigation is needed to expose the failings at the BBC. If what is being said is true, there was a massive cover up. There also appears to have been a culture of allowing routine breaking of the law at the BBC.
Plus the Beeb is funded by the taxpayer.

I can only guess how far some of these parents will go to ensure that their child finds fame. Honestly, I would not like to believe that any parent would allow their child to be sexually abused for any reason, but with my custodian helmet firmly back atop my head, I know that it happens, and more regularly than you might imagine. I have not encountered in a professional capacity where a parent has allowed stuff to happen for fame, but I have encountered parents turning a blind eye to abuse for other reasons. It is not much of a stretch from there to the 'for fame' scenario.

+1 Also and god forbid its awful to suggest but who's to say there wasn't a culture of this in the Beeb at the time.

If there are any fellow Rhod Gilbert fans out there, he's taking over Steve Wright's slot on Radio 2 in 10mins. He's got Greg James with him so should be 3 hours of abuse for Mr James.
Unfortunately, it's for one day only.

Do ye lot ever do any work? Jayz, I dunno. No wonder the Economy is in the state its in.
Howyiz all regs?
Had a blast on Sat. The Chiefs team and fans are really going to make a great name for themselves in the Heino. We could hear them chanting all game. Specially the one sitting directly in front of me. 1st Class.
We made hard work of it. They wouldn´t let us play either. More goys coming back for next week TF. Onwards and upwards to Llanelli this weekend.
Hoog, wont be able to make Devon on Sunday after all. Not practicable. Flying out of Gatwick at 09.20 on Mon morn. Will head back to Paddington -> Ealing from Wales bud. Sure I will see the Chef down there in December.

Great bud. I´m working in a Mainframe Hippie Wonderland. A smiling, joking, experienced, pish-taking, load of aul bollixes they are too.
Bit like the mutual craic I have with Rav, PJ, As, Chef and Penfron. I´m loving it. Cant remember being this happy in a contract.
IBM will probably go Chapter 11 now, knowing my luck...
Hows tings yersel handsome?
PJ, I think that answers your 1st vraag darlin.
As for Leinster? Sure we start like this every year man. So many players being integrated, added to a ridiculous injury-list ... there is no fluency as a result. This year is the worst I´ve ever seen though. 17 players injured at one stage. Healy & Leo are now integrated. Think Rob Kearney will play this Sat also. Darcy will be back in the squad. As will Boss. Young Kearney & Ruddock are playing with with Leinster A´s and are both well on the way back. It will click. Just hope it is this weekend.
MUST get 4 pts at Scarlets. I would consider an 8pt haul from 2 games, a major achievement in the circumstances... Scarlets will be hurting and will come at us like demons. They MUST win on Sat too. It will be HUUUGE.
Then comes the yearly double-hearder with ASM in Dec. Should be a lot healthier by then.
I also think that Chiefs & Scarlets are going to do some damage to ASM at Sandy Park and PYS. This is a heavy group.
Don´t stop... Belieeeeving

Yes. The institutions that perpetuated Saville's (and possibly others) abusive behaviour are still around and they should be held accountable for their collusion in these things. Just like the Catholic church was forced to address the child abuse by priests allegations in various parts of the world. The BBC certainly had more than enough opportunity to deal with Saville themselves a lot sooner and they dropped the investigation so they've shot themselves in the foot a bit there.
Anyhoo, welcome back Gaffer and anyone else who's returning from being on their travels.
Also, big well done to Prop on the half marathon in Cardiff A couple of my colleagues at work did it. Sounds like a great day out was had by all.

Very strange goings on in Warsaw where a roundball game was going to be played between Poland and England.
The pitch is so waterlogged the ball wont bounce, to say it's like a bog is an understatement. Why is that so strange?
The stadium has a feckin roof!!!
Bunch of clowns.

Apparently, they were going to close the roof an hour ago - after 8 hours of continual, biblical style downpouring mind - but they couldn't... because the rain was too feckin heavy!!!

Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
FIFA have just issued a press release to say that they are doing everything in their power to get the game started in the next 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, the ref has just been out onto the pitch tossing the ball about, and it's just like landing on a swimming pool.
SPLAT!!
King Canute - eat yer feckin heart out.
Apparently the stadium press officer has said they were expecting heavy rain but not a downpour... eh?
If this game gets played tonight, I'll bare my arse in Tescos.

Evening one and all
What a farce in Poland, game off. How that can happen in a stadium with a feckin roof beggars belief.
Awful scenes at the end of the England U21 game against Serbia with the England left back Rose being subjected to monkey taunts from the fans, and worse still, apparently also from some of the Serbian players and coaching stuff. Bit of a punch up ensued and Rose was red carded. FIFA need to get a grip of the racism that still blights the sport across Europe.
In other news, I had a lovely chinese tonight. Singapore noodles and spare ribs. Lovely.
