The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to "sleepy" Roswell New Mexico, take off point for the first ever supersonic free-fall this week.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Felix Baumgartner and Chris Budgen up on the wall.

Morning pub
Took me 2 hours to drive into work this morning! Not conducive to a productive day, I'm knackered now.
On the plus side, I'm the only one in the office today it seems so I can sneak in here for the occasional

I've got a lot of (paid) work to get done today though Rav.
We're approaching the end of this pub. Venue and pic nominations please
I'm thinking Hoani MacDonald and the late Sir Wilson Whineray for pics.

Well the curry cup final is in durban this weekend.
How about everyone move to durban.
Jackie horner tavern, a stone's throw away from Kingspark.
A photo f the next Springbok 10 would be welcome too.

Don't agree with that Pete, like a good ref Pete you should do your job without people noticing you.
Also
Do you not volunteer to do this. Surely you should expect things like that

Not really the point mate, you expect adults to behave in a respectful and mature manner.Suspicious lurker wrote:Don't agree with that Pete, like a good ref Pete you should do your job without people noticing you.

Great choice on the photos Pete.
Didn't do Safari in the end. We were told it's pointless unless you go early. Went to a giraffe sanctuary and and elephant orphanage. One elephant pushed another over with its head. Was funny, but it frightened me too, as obviously the thing fell with a crash.

Pete, if you have some space then a photo of Tony Greig and Martin Crowe. Greig was never the most popular cricketer mainly because of his involvement with Kerry Packer but I would wish him and Martin well as they battle cancer.

Apparently giraffes don't make a noise (as in a neigh or a bark or whatever). I don't know how true that is. Either way, I think they're beautiful animals.
And I've never heard anyone do a convincing impression of an elephant's noise (is it called a roar?). It ends up sounding nothing like it. You usually get a useless arm-as-trunk gesture in a vain attempt to make it more realistic.

Re: The Stratospheric Supersonic Dew Drop Inn, Roswell, New Mexico
JAMIE ROBERTS BACK FOR DOVE MEN SERIES
Rob Howley has named a 35-man Wales squad to contest the 2012 Dove Men Series at the Millennium Stadium this autumn which includes just one uncapped player and the returning Jamie Roberts.
Howley, Wales’ interim head coach in the absence of Warren Gatland, has selected six players who did not figure in his original 34-man summer tour squad to Australia, including talismanic Blues centre Roberts, with Ospreys tight-head prop Aaron Jarvis the only potential debutant.
Jarvis is one of six props named – only five travelled down under in the summer, which accounts for the larger contingent this time - with fellow Osprey Ryan Bevington and Blues front row Scott Andrews recalled to join incumbents Adam Jones (Ospreys), Gethin Jenkins (Toulon) and Paul James (Bath).
Scarlets pair Rob McCusker (flanker) and Tavis Knoyle (scrum half) both also return to the fold alongside Ospreys fly-half Dan Biggar, whilst Blues flanker Sam Warburton is retained as captain.
Knoyle returns in place of Ospreys scrum half Rhys Webb and Biggar alongside Roberts completes the 15-man backs contingent with Aled Brew (Biarritz Olympique) and Andrew Bishop (Ospreys) the players missing out.
Scarlets prop Rhodri Jones (shoulder), Exeter Chiefs prop Craig Mitchell (bicep) and Dragons back row Dan Lydiate (ankle) were unavailable due to injury.
Wales begin their campaign against Argentina on Saturday, 10 November, before facing Samoa the following Friday evening.
The arrival of New Zealand in Cardiff ahead of their clash with Wales on Saturday, 24 November will coincide with Gatland’s return to the national squad coaching staff.
He re-joins the squad for the clash with the All Blacks and to see them face the Wallabies in the series climax on 1 December, before returning to British & Irish Lions duties and leaving Howley in full charge once again for the 2013 RBS 6 Nations Championship.
"We are really pleased with the strength and depth of the squad with some pleasing individual performances over the last three or four weeks, but we all understand and realize the skill, physicality and intensity will go up over the next five weeks,” said Howley.
“This is one of the reasons we are going back to our training camp in Poland to sharpen minds and bodies.
“Argentina are first up and after the experience they have gained in the Rugby Championship they will be a challenging and tough opponent, but this is a challenge we will look forward too.
“We know how important momentum is going into any series and the bigger picture is the Rugby World Cup draw at the beginning of December and how we perform against the Pumas, Samoa, the All Blacks and the Wallabies will have a direct effect on our seeding in that draw.
“We need a successful November to back up our performances at the RWC in New Zealand and the Six Nations Grand Slam earlier this year and we are determined to achieve it.”
The Wales squad will begin their preparations for the Dove Men Series with a week’s training camp in Spala, Poland, beginning this Sunday, 28 October – the same Olympic training village which they visited prior to the 2011 RWC.

Doing the arm-as-trunk gesture plus shouting "trumpet" became our team rallying call in Spain a couple of years ago (following the playing of a "what does a <insert noun here> sound like" drinking game at our villa the night before the tournament)

Didn't do Safari in the end. We were told it's pointless unless you go early. Went to a giraffe sanctuary and and elephant orphanage. One elephant pushed another over with its head. Was funny, but it frightened me too, as obviously the thing fell with a crash.
Surely your used to elephants falling over from playing in the valleys?

The dog left after the poor rugby we played last year (got tired of getting kicked around), now we just have a cat.Rava wrote:Biltong, I have a dog and some Guinea Pigs

That's why it's a post and not an article.
Tbh it's the worst squad I've ever seen selected, not because of the individuals named, but because it just confirms our coach is a complete and utter stooge/patsy.

It's actually better to go there during our winter, in summer the rain really gives the grass plenty of oomph, so you don't see as much as when it is dry during Winter months.MrsP wrote:We visited the Kruger National Park when we were over.

But great place yeah, I would still love to go to the game parks Botswana and Kenya, they are bigger and more place to really get lost in the wilderness.
The Kruger is quite commercialised.

Funnily enough, getting lost in the wilderness doesn't appeal to me as much.
Priestland is not a confidence player, he's a lack of confidence player. When he can convince himself that it is not all a dream he's going to suddenly wake up from he can do some decent things,. But then inevitably reality hits home, he realises he just does not deserve to be there and the true Priestland emerges. The fluffing, fannying, flaky Priestland.

Dangerous places, elephant orphanages. You just never know what they're going to get up to

That's terrible! Ban him!
I did think of a joke to go with that but my internal moderator has erased it.

It might not be such a good idea to take the pub to Durban, if that's the kind of photo Pete's going to put above the bar...

Someone wouldn't ever put that really long post of Glas's in a spoiler or something, would they?
That's if Glas doesn't mind of course.
It's doing my head in having to go past it!

Don't worry, that elephant orphanage is in Sri Lanka.
