The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to the historical city of Rome, the owner Giiovanni, is a Canadian-Italian, and welcomes all after a great day of rugby.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Dane Coles, Aaron Jarvis, Samson Lee and Schalk Brits up on the wall. Erm, actually there is a second rule. No elephants, unless they're Effervescing - we can't be barring a Chiefs fan

I went on a day trip to Venice from Austria a few years back. My friend decided that it would be really convenient not to mention her deep fear of birds until we were on the far side of St Marks Square from where we were to meet the rest of our group!
St Mark's Square is flooded at the moment so I think you'd need to buy wellies before you bought anything else in Venice!
We've been there a couple of times, both in Feb/March and the contrast in the weather was unbelievable. The first time we nearly froze to death it was so cold (they do great hot chocolate there btw), the second time we nearly melted it was so warm. A bit strange really, but I'd rather that than paddling.

Morning all
Hoe everyone is well this freezing cold morning (well it is where I am). It's nearly the weekend. Am so nervous about the London Irish game tonight, Sale will be fired up massively, I'm just praying that we can perform.

Away in the frozen north luckless. I really wanted to go but I don't finish work until 4 so wouldn't get up there in time. Will have to see if I can find a stream for it somewhere (unlikely) or make do with radio commentary.

Ahhh, the red lights too eh? And the mushrooms ...
Seriously, the van Gogh museum and other art museums are well worth a visit. And the Anne Frank house can provoke powerful emotions (warning, one of those can be irritation at all the other tourists). The Heineken factory tour is a better tour than the Guinness one in Dublin (shame about the beer mind).

Was great but I was only there briefly so I'd like to visit again with some more time for leisure. Very friendly city, centre quite reminiscent of the nicer bits of Oxford or Edinburgh

I'm genuinely worried.
Was going to watch rugby tonight and completely forgot about Scrum V until I just read Rubyguby talk about Blouse v Munster. I was all set to watch Ulster v Embra. Maybe I am on the turn?

Well dude, ye always have an open invite at Chez Gibbo.
On the article, I think its a good decision. A logical one. An adult one. Why go the way of Britain & Ireland - whose major cities are being ravaged by crime & murder because of their draconian stance? This place is one of the safest places on the Planet. Go figure.
I actually hate the foreign perception, that this City is mainly about sex & drugs. That is just a minute part & corner of the whole sphere that is the Dam. Mainly fed by young Brits, Paddies and Yanks, as it happens. There is so much more to it all. And that´s the bit I love. Its just a feeling of calmness, safety and wonder, as you wander through its streets. It has a deceptive pace. Like less than 1st gear. Its hard to explain. Ask Cari, she got it in one. Once you do, you fall in love with it.
Howyiz regs. Its Friday. Its payday... its Craackerjaaack!

I'll bear that in mind, Gibbo. Maybe a long weekend in the spring?
Also, if you do end up coming over when Leinster visit Dave Parade, there's a sofa with your name on it (just push the pup out of the way).

As far as the UK goes there are only a handful of grounds I'd love to get to:
- Kingsholm, Welford Road and Rodney Parade
The rest I've either been to before or think its indifferent.

Welford Road is special. Like Thomond Park. Its not just their capacity and them being magnificent stadia, you can just feel that rugby runs through the very core of both Cities. They have so much in common in that respect. History and a great understanding of the game, everywhere you go in both cities. That matters.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
What team has the best away supporters do you think.
I must take my hat off to the Saints fans. Three times they've been to Thomond Park confident of causing an upset. Three times they've lost. Three times they have been great after the match.
Tigers back in 2007 were excellent too. You mightnt think it based on 606 but they were extremely graceful winners. They took our record at Thomond Park and weren't rubbing it in peoples faces. Just celebrating their win and happy to party with the locals.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual La Botticella Pub, Rome.
I remember years ago when my dad and I had season tickets and we had Munster in our Heineken Cup group (yes, Heineken Cup, it was that long ago). There were hundreds of travelling fans and the banter was great. When we gave away our first penalty (hands in the ruck or something) a Munster fan behind me shouted, "he's at it all day!"
The Chiefs fans who came over last season were a good bunch, too.

Clermont Auvergne in my experience Stag, zero shadow of a doubt.
Stade Francais would be up there too but yeah- Clermont by some distance.
