Yes we are over reliant on Suarez at the moment , hopefully that will be addressed in january .
On a personal note if a club came in with a offer of over 50 million quid for Suarez then i would sell him as i dont think ANY player is worth that amount of money .

I would only sell Suarez for anything, particularly big money, if two or more strikers had already been brought in. No point selling Suarez for big money and then getting ripped off by the team we want to buy from.

Apparently we have offered Sterling a new contract worth £30,000 a week rising to £60,000 a week over 5 years .
If he keeps showing his current form that will go up , i think its just a contract to tie him to the club for the foreseable future

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
Apparently the club don't want to let him go on loan though, and I agree with them. If he goes out on loan, it's no guarantee of a transfer fee, which means no replacement can come in, which means Liverpool lose.
Downing is always a decent squad player if nothing else, his wages may be high, but at the end of the day Middlesbrough aren't going to pay them all anyway and are unlike to be able to afford to buy him at the end of the season.
If we can't sell him in January and therefore bring in some more players, should keep him. He's put in some good performances at times, he's a scapegoat in my opinion.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
Maybe not strictly a Liverpool topic, but I was wondering about fellow Liverpool fans' reactions to the Rafa appointment at Chelsea. For me Rafa will always have a special place in the history of Liverpool and in our hearts. I hope for him that he can be successful at chelsea, and that if he manages chelsea at anfield that we give him a great reception. With the managerial debacles that followed after his departure, it seemed that for many we didn't realise what we had until it was gone. Although I do realise that his stock with the media and other teams' supporters isn't very high. So fellow Liverpool supporters do you wish him well? How do you feel about his appointment?

I'm gutted to be honest, but still happy for him to take a job in England. He is a very brave man taking that job because the vultures will be out for him from day one.
I also agree with what Crimey said on another thread, I doubt he will stay with Chelsea past the season.
I'd be interested to hear Chelsea fans view on what they think Rafa would need to do to win them over.
I just wish we never got rid of him.

I also wish we had never got rid of him. The club was and still is in his blood. I sort of feel sorry for him, because I think he has taken on an impossible job, and I kind of what him to be successful - not for Chelsea's sake, but for his sake.

I agree, I actually want Chelsea to win the league now just because of him.
I think a lot of people in England just don't realise how good a manager he was for us. I've seen a lot of Chelsea fans saying he single handedly destroyed us (how wrong they are).
I just feel sick everytime I think, we sacked Rafa Benitez, and replaced him with Roy Hodgson.

True, don't think many managers past or present would have had the love for the club and the ability to cope with what was happening behind the scenes at the club with such dignity and still almost bring home the big prize. Liverpool legend.

Interesting team selection for tonights game with no recognised striker. The good news is that udinese have lost, meaning a win will guarantee progression to the next phase before our potentially tricky away tie in udine.

2 absolute quality goals stopped you winning tonight. More and more impressed with how Rodgers' team in shaping up. Excellent youth prospects coming through and with a new striker and about 3 maybe 4 new players, I see no reason why with a bit of luck along the way, you can't be challenging for a place in the top 6.
Nice to see Joe Cole have a decent game. Be like a new signing if he can get back to some fitness and form. I have always felt Cole is a confidence player, and its what's been lacking ever since that red card on debut (And of course injuries). Be nice to see if he can get a run of games under his belt.

I think this Europa League group was always going to be tough, but I think it shows the frailty the side has at home, that we can beat Young Boys 5-3 away from home but only manage a draw at home.

Overall i wasn't impressed last night , we should of put out a stronger side and really gone for the win then we could of rested players away to Udinese
If we weren't going to start Suarez then why not play Morgan up front ?

I think Rodgers, like a lot of managers to be fair, enjoys tinkering with formations and trying to get his players to adopt into new systems.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
Should have put the game to bed even with that side though so can't really hold Rodgers accountable. Suso missed a glorious chance, Cole missed a good one but also took his goal really well and Henderson missed a chance that really was guilt edged. Their goals despite being great strikes come from Liverpool errors, the first one Hendo was caught to far up the field, didn't once sprint to get back and when he actually got close he allowed the diagonal ball to go over his head to the striker.
Their second was another catalogue of errors, 2-1 last few minutes and instead of trying to kill the game off Suarez tried to take on 3 players, got tackled and allowed them to counter attack. Once they got in to our half we didn't press the ball once, criminal especially on the edge of your own box.

It is obvious the squad is thin and i dont blame the manager for trying things out , i just think sometimes it is like trying to put round pegs in square holes .
I agree about their goals coming from our own mistakes , but that is happening in most games at the moment and it's so frustrating ...it seems like everytime we have a lapse in concentration and give the ball away the other team makes us pay for it . With the ball we look good and are playing some decent football , but once we concede possession we seem to panic a little and forget how to defend

Agree I was going to post a very similar comment but then decided against I it seems I am repeating myself constantly.
I was like you also a bit bemused by the reports regarding downing, arsenal and 10 million pounds. If it's true then rumours of Wenger losing the plot have been grossly downplayed!

If the papers today are to be believed then Rodgers has said we wont be spending big money in january . I dont mind at all really as the market is way over priced in january , i would rather we went for players like Defoe , Long or even Hooper ... players who wouldn't cost the earth yet would score goals

Downing had a shocker in Sunday. Think he would genuinely struggle to get a start in any of the prem teams. Henderson was awful again.. Why did he play them?

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
I'm not sure at all.
I think Henderson has more of a future at the club than Downing, he's still only young and I think the talent is obviously there, it's just how to get it out of him, he looks totally low on confidence but I believe he can actually be a pretty decent back up to Joe Allen as I've seen him a few times do a good job similar to Allen.

What does Allen actually do. Doesn't break up play, have a killer pass or beat a man. A very mediocre player could so his job.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
Allen was awful(not for the first time), and i think rodgers just doesnt want to drop him because hes one of his big signings and managers seem to be totally opposed to admitting they were wrong and just dropping the player! Downing is done, any offeres above say 8 million(which we would be lucky to get) i feel should be accepted for him. On the brightside lucas is back! and should be playing first team again by mid-december.
Not to sound to repetitive but it realy bothers me that allen completes about 200 short passes, usually in our half and backwards, and people are fawning over him! He didnt even manage this yesterday to be fair.
All in all i think we may be lucky to get top 10 this year. But im seeing some 'fans' on various sites calling for BR to be sacked already, which is ludacris! We need to give a manager some time and a decent amount of money, not just have a revolving door of failed managers!

Allen is basically a young Carrick. Doesn't actually contribute other than a pass % because all his passes are 5 yards and backwards.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
While i agree 95% of his passes are sideways or backwards i don't always think that's all his fault ,when the ball is played to him other players should be moving into space more so he can pass to them ...some of the runs being made are terrible .
I thought Allen would be the pivot in our play as he would give and go and get it back but we dont seem to offer him a way forward or he gives it forward gets it back then the other player hasn't offered themselves again so he has to go back .

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
Based on yesterday Allen was p|ss poor. His passing wasn't good, he got caught in possesion far to often and he gave away (from my memory, could be more) 2 dangerous free kicks at the edge of the box.
I found myself cursing Allen more then Downing yesterday
But Downing is a liability at left back and I hope that Robinson gets his chance soon.
On a lighter note what does every make of Enrique's form recently? I think he has been fanastic in his more advanced roll . Attacking and defending!

What happened to the young lads Robinson/Flanagan?
Rodgers is a very funny man. And I will say the first appeal for a pen, it wasn't a pen. Second one, I don't think it was either. So I don't see his point on those

Flanagan has been injured, and he seems a little off on Robinson who would always make a much better option than Downing at left back.

I was impressed with the way we played last night. Going 2 goals down so early, I was worried. But we showed a lot of character and nearly got a draw.
Clint Dempseys' dive was pathetic. I doubt there will be a mutiny for him though.

I hope the rumours of Sterling and his advisors being peed off with the way Rodgers is talking about his contract discussions are untrue . While i agree with Brendon about Sterling needing to play and that this wont be his big contract , players egos are so big now that they dont want to hear that

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
Sterling would be mad to even think about snubbing a new contract at this stage of his career but this is probably just paper talk anyway, I'm always skeptical when a "source" says this and a "source" says that...
Regarding today's match I'm expecting a routine win against a Southampton side who ship goals for fun. Be nice to get a run of wins under our belts and looking at our next few fixtures this is quite achievable. But Liverpool being Liverpool nothing is that straightforward!

Early yet but the team looks so much more balanced with Lucas back in it, Allen is being a bit more adventurous with his passing and his runs and more people are getting into the box.

Really good first half performance, and a superb header from Agger from 12 yards to cap it off. Agree with you Crimey that with Lucas in the side we are seeing Allen try and express himself alot more and he's playing alot further up the field.

Re: Liverpool FC Thread: Numero Deux
While really we should have seen a much bigger gap than a 1-0 win, these days I think we have to be content with a win at home and a clean sheet, with a good performance as well.
Jose Enrique was my man of the match, but as I said before Lucas coming back added a lot more balance to the side with Allen and Gerrard pushing further up the pitch and having their best games in a while. Silly yellow card by Suarez, which means we miss him for the West Ham game. Think Morgan or Yesil has to start, not a fan of playing without a recognised striker...especially as the team struggles to get enough people into the box anyway.

Seeing how Brendon likes to tinker i can see Enrique playing up front against the Hammers ( that is tongue in cheek by the way at least i hope it is ) as he has been the stand out player over the last few games .

I'm just hoping he can keep it up this time, last season he was playing this well but then his form dropped off dramatically. The consolation is full backs is probably our strongest position with Johnson, Enrique, Kelly, Wisdom, Flanagan and Robinson. (I refuse to count Downing who shouldn't be anywhere near left back.)
