Week 14 discussion thread
Couldn't see a thread so thought I'd create one
After defending Carson Palmer for a lot of the season my patience has finally gone with him. Threw a brilliant ball deep in double coverage for Streater, then on the next throw throws a pick after throwing behind the receiver, once again causing us to miss on a chance to put points on the board....again, and also brings this shocking Oakland defense onto the field.
I think as well as knapp, Palmer needs to be cut, he isn't earning the money he's getting this year so god help next year when we owe him a heck of a lot more

Despite my first post, credit where it's due, Palmer put together a good drive ending in a McFadden score. Still a costly turnover in the redzone earlier and he needs to start putting drives like that together consistently

For all the criticism of McKenzie and Allen they've inherited a pretty crappy situation, it's going to take time to fix Oakland

Re: Week 14 discussion thread
I think Palmer will be given another year if only because we have more gaping needs. He needs a better OC, and the running game needs to be consistent - and we need to stick with it. That said, McFadden has apparently been injured again.
McKenzie and Allen should be given a little more time too, in my opinion. They need a proper draft and a chance to really clear away the crap we don't need. I do think Allen is beginning to feel the heat though, I can't imagine patience is high with him right now.

Re: Week 14 discussion thread
The situation in Oakland is proper messy. You need to sort out that roster, I remember either Soddy or Gazzy saying that the punter was like the 5th highest earner or something which is bizarre. Things like that need to be rectified.
I think Allen should get another year, although it is probably better for the team if you lose the remaining games and take advantage of a higher draft slot

Re: Week 14 discussion thread
Yeah I think we have the highest paid special teams unit in the league, but the problem is we don't give Janikowski enough opportunity to put points up. We either go 3 and out in our own half, or we get into the redzone and throw a pick.
Think McClain is going, most of the secondary can go (barring Huff/Branch and Hanson), and potentially our DTs, but particularly Kelly, are at risk.
Offensively I think we only need to change our OC. We may benefit from another back to go with McFadden and Reece, but aside from that I don't see an issue there except with play calls and Palmer's sometimes shaky decisions.

Re: Week 14 discussion thread
I reckon Palmer will get another myself. If there was a chance of him being cut they would've thrown Pryor in by now to see what he can do. I've defended him for much of the season but last night wound me up. Can give us so much momentum one minute and then take it away the next with a stupid play.
For once last night it wasn't the defense that cost us, they were aggressive and made some good plays to limit Denver to field goals. Was impressed with Adams, got another pick and got some good tackles for no or short gains
Did you watch it sodhat? The McFadden TD drive was brilliant, first time they've been like it all season and it was short simple plays that did it, I know Palmer likes the Hollywood pass to Moore or Streater (who was class last night) now and then and this is were his turnovers cost us, but consistently getting first downs with short plays should be the way forward for our offense instead of airing it out and hoping for the best

Re: Week 14 discussion thread
I haven't watched it yet, but I have it recorded and I will watch tonight. Stupid bleacher report app spoiled the score this morning so I know what happens anyway!
I like Streater and Criner, I think we have a solid core of WRs and Myers has stepped up. We need a stronger running game and to stick with it whatever happens. We always seem to be 2 scores back though, so it's difficult to do at times.
I think we should give Pryor a shot in the last 3 games - there is no reason at all not to now, and I want to see him play a proper team. Preseason vs Detroit he was electric with the run, but can he pass?

Darnell Docket receives a 6 figure fine for spitting in Kerry Rhodes face. 1 digit for every pass the Cards complete then.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
I can also confirm. Awful RT @Matt_Barrie: Can confirm, Josh Brent was driving car involved in a fatal accident that killed Jerry Brown Jr.
Just what Dallas needed

Our run defense had improved quite a bit these last few games, but Jamaal Charles just took the 1st play 80 yards for a TD. Think that equals our average yards given up over the last 5 games in just 1 play, could be a long day!

Hmm Bowe should have been flagged for some Offensive Pass Intereference on that big 40+ yard play that got them near the end zone, but good defensive stand and it ends in the Chiefs hitting the upright from just 27 yards.

That OPI call on Richardson seems to be rubbish... If they had been set the play before we wouldn't have had that issue.

Re: Week 14 discussion thread
Anyone else just seen the personal foul called on one of the Bengals DBs? Awful call that just sums up how much the NFL are ruining the game by making it so so soft. Beautifully clean hit on Dez Bryant that knocked him out of bounds and broke up a pass and he gets called for a hit on a defenceless receiver. Terrible call. Defenders basically just have to let WRs catch the ball nowadays. Wasn't an over the middle pass either - it was down the sideline.

So with Chicago seemingly losing to Minnesota, that really tightens up the wildcard race in the NFC especially with Tampa winning as well.

What is and why do the refs throw what looks like a piece of plastic onto the field during a play?

It is a flag, and it signals there is a foul on the play which could result in a penalty. If that makes sense

No not that. I know about penalty flags. It's something else. They chuck it onto the field at either the end of a play or say when a punt is caught and the returner sets off...

Browns win 30-7, allow a TD on Chiefs first play then shut them out rest of the game. Where's Grizzly when you need him?

It's there to mark distances etc. in case the play gets called back or altered.

Can't believe the Skins have tied this up! I'm so not used to us playing so well late in the game. Still won't be surprised if the Ravens grab a fieldgoal at the death here though. Would be classic Redskins!

Jeepers, Skins win! Can't believe it!!! Never thought we'd get to that after losing to Carolina to drop to 3-6.
Still though, if RG3 is done then our season is probably done too
Looking to the long-term though, gotta be pleased with the guts the team have shown to hang in there this season.

Hats are for Out of Bounds and related illegal touching... plus its if one ref has two fouls to call or looses there flag.
They throw the little beanbag things on Punt Returns etc to mark the spot where the catch was fielded in the event of the punt return requiring a penalty markup based off the point of the catch. They use them for similar reasons in other scenarios, just to leave a mark of where some event happened.
