The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
First topic message reminder :
Hello and welcome to the Virtual Rugby Pub, a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The pub has made its way to Hopetoun House, Edinburgh - where the Management Team for the 2013 British & Irish Lions tour party to Australia was announced.
“This is the next chapter in the 2013 tour story," said tour manager Andy Irvine.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no tampering with the pictures of Warren Gatland,
Andy Farrell, Shaun Edwards, Kiwi Pete's Grandfather, Rava, Rodders, Andy Irvine, Graham Rowntree, Dr James Robson,
Paul Stridgeon, Kip Keino, Baggage Master Patrick O’Reilly and Lawyer Max Duthie above the bar.

Yeah and we have 3 bonus points already. 15 points from 4 games is not a bad return at this level.
We are capable of beating Glasgow well in our next Heineken Cup game at Ravenhill, we'll see how the group looks after that. You've got to say we're still favourites. A reality check is no harm at all.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
Bore da pawb / good morning all, I've just made a pot of tea if anyone's interested, but you'd better be quick!
I went to a carol concert by the Newport Philharmonic Choir at St Julian's Methodist Church last night (my dad sings baritone for them). Nothing makes me feel more Christmassy than carol-singing, and the congregation sang six of them with the choir. One of the songs the choir sang was 'Tua Bethlem Dref', which is a Welsh carol and centuries old. It's one of my favourites.
As well as the choir, there were two sets played by the Tongwynlais Temperance Band, a brass band, but they were only a five-piece last night. One of the songs they played in their first set was 'Danny Boy', and I'm not ashamed to say I had tears in my eyes. (And not because they were bad!)
Anyway, I'm looking forward to watching some decent rugby this evening.

Still waiting to hear about Tommy. Meanwhile, there's Heino highlights on S4C in a bit.

Maybe it's fortunate that they concentrate on the Welsh teams more. I don't want to see Tommy's injury again, and I can cope with the O's highlights today

Well I was right to fear the worst I think. Tommy's suffered lateral ligament damage an he's having an op during next week. They won't know how long he's out for until after the op. Poor man.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
There's a pic on the front page of TRP when Bowe copped the injuries. It looks like he wrenched his knee (the kneecap is pointing outwards) and that caused him to go over on his ankle.
Ouch!!
I'm sure everyone wishes him a speedy recovery.
Another Irish winger who may soon be on the radar is Gloucester's Shane Monaghan. 4 tries for him yesterday against L. Irish.

I feicing hate Owen Farrell, disgraceful carry on having a cut off Zebo and then moving the kick in, lacks class. World Player of the Year my arse. Kicking well from hand, his passing is occasionally awful ridiculous decisions getting intercepted by Downey is as bad as it gets!

Ha Thomond - you watching the Ireland v England match could be interesting then!
Notch - I am gutted for him too. He was doing so well and I know he hates missing out on playing. I'm worried about how long he'll be off for now. Could be anything from two months to next season. That would mean he misses such a big season what with Ulster doing so well in the domestic leagues, the Six Nations and Lions tour. Injuries suck.
Ound - watching it was painful. Could see him calling for help and gripping his knee. I just wanted to give him a cwtch.

Yeah, the sun is setting on a few. After last night I want Luke Marshall to get a run of games at 12 but Paddy Wallace still has a big role to play. He deserved to start last night, Wallace, doesn't mean he deserves to start against Leinster. There will be changes for the visit of Leinster for sure.

He should have been gone from last year, our backs haven't offered a threat in a long time bar the Northampton game, need at least one BP win, possibly two to survive.

Yeah, the cult of ROG. It's been a wee bit of a burden on Irish Rugby.
The same reason he's been so successful is the same reason that burden falls on rugby in Munster and Ireland.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
ROG is possibly the most overrated outhalf to have played for Ireland, he could never do two of the four basics of outhalf play consistently, tackle or run. Without a world class pack, he was nothing.
ROG never realised that. Ireland built a team to suit his strengths and it worked very well with that talent we had, ROG was never that good but he holds such a massive sway in Irish rugby that people are almost scared to criticise him. The IRFU are calling the shots in this area in my opinion, playing a guy like ROG the way Penney wants to play makes no sense.

Jeebus, how can you go to the wrong town. The first rule of Euro rugby touring is check the club website for their location. Google maps does the rest.
Mind you, Andy and I have got spectacularly lost in Rome, Toulouse, Glasgow and Bordeaux on previous trips (drink may have been partaken of ).
But at least we got to the right place first.

Good to hear you had a nice trip to the SW, Penfro.
In other news Worcester lock (ex Quins) has declared his desire to play for Wales. He played age grade rugby in both Wales and England and tops the Opta stats for carries and tackles by a lock in the Prem.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub, Edinburgh
Evening pawb, good to see the spirit of touring is alive, well and kicking.
By all accounts a great weekend of European rugby, I have much to catch up on, after sleep.
Two things that have popped up on my Bath radar, are that a QF in the Amlin against Wasps is a distinct possibility - fancy that one Hound? - and that there are rife rumours that Bath have caught the eye of Jon Joseph for next season. I'm not even going to ask on that score Ozzy.
Not a great weekend for the Irish regs, or what's left of them, I was particularly disppointed with my newly beloved Ulster's result against the Sinners, I was convinced Ruan was going to hammer in the final nail, but I guess the 100% record had to fall sooner or later. Still in it though.
Leinster were blown off course too, I only caught the second half of the second half and it looked pretty obvious that Clermont did the business early on in that game and did what they had to to stay in front. They look like the team to beat for any Heino wannabee champions, but Leinster are still in there too.
There are maybe 2 out of the 6 pools that are fairly predictable, but the rest are still wide open and I for one cannot wait until January.
Gotta love the Heino, it's the law.
Anyhoo, congratulations and comiserations to you all, you just have to keep on keeping on, that's all. I'm hoping the meet down in Exeter is still on for round 6, but with certain people being absent, I'm not sure.
Only 8 more days of work 'til Christmas...

Delighted for Mike Poole. After all his rotten luck with injuries, to finally get his first regional try. I need to see highlights. Sounds like we did ok, albeit against minnows. Hopefully ran through some moves before the big derby against the Blouse.

Out with work ones for crimbo dinner tonight, so missed spoty. Wiggo a thoroughly worthy winner, though I gots to be honest I liked Andy Murray this year. Why Ennis is in second ahead of Farah? Who knows.. (well we all know but won't let on) or am I being uncharitable?
Also got a text from a friend saying Nev was mentioned in the tributes so that was nice also.
