The Jets were never going to play Tebow this late in the season. They couldn't risk starting him and the Jets winning. Imagine the fans reaction.GSC wrote:Nobody is starting Tim Tebow at QB. Everybody stop thinking this.
The Jets would rather start a 6th round pick whose speciality is handing off
It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Tebow had started at QB from week 1. I still think he deserves a season as a QB starter somewhere in the NFL on the back of leading the Broncos to the playoffs and not sure Tebowmania will go away until he gets a proper chance.

Tebow never had a chance of supplanting Sanchez because Tebow is terrible. That McElroy replaced him is down to the fact that McElroy can do things necessary to the QB position that Tebow can't, namely read defenses and make accurate passes

It wouldn't surprise me to see Greg Jennings turn up in Miami.
Alex Smith has been heavily linked with the New York Jets.

Think a lot of people will be interested in Jennings, wonder if he'll be persuaded by money or chances of returning to the Super Bowl. I would happily have him in Cleveland but I imagine there will be "better" offers.mikeygnfl wrote:It wouldn't surprise me to see Greg Jennings turn up in Miami.

Can Jets afford to spend $8million on Sanchez and bring in another quarterback through free agency?

Other rumours have Michael Vick to the Bills or Cardinals, Tebow to the Jaguars, Dwayne Bowe to the Vikings or Jets and Mike Wallace to the Redskins.

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread
Because the Redskins haven't spent enough recently on WRs? Who would want to go to play QB in Arizona unless you enjoy being injured? Thought Bills were definitely looking for a franchise QB in the draft, plus only extended Fitzpatrick recently. Tebow one is only talked about because he would suddenly make fans turn up but he's worse than Henne. Would rather Bowe came to Cleveland but again unlikely I imagine.mikeygnfl wrote:Other rumours have Michael Vick to the Bills or Cardinals, Tebow to the Jaguars, Dwayne Bowe to the Vikings or Jets and Mike Wallace to the Redskins.

The only other team that wanted Tebow last year was the Jags, namely the owner because hes a merchandise dream. Nobody wants Tebow the player sadly.

Seems as if Tebow is all but a Jaguar in 2013. Will be interesting to see how he does

I'd feel sorry for Tim Tebow, he never asked for special treatment from the media, but that same treatment gets him an NFL job.

Well he has won more playoff games than Matt Ryan
This will be his last shot. Seems as if the Jags don't like the QB's in this years class so will basically get a stop gap in and improve other areas of there awful roster first

Mark Sanchez has won more playoff games than Tony Romo
Christian Ponder has more wins than Drew Brees.
Wins are not a QB stat.
And Tim Tebow will not start in Jacksonville, because the Jaguars coaching staff does not like Tim Tebow. Hes a gimmick player whose best use is as merchandise. Football people (bar Josh 'Stalin' McDaniels) don't like Tebow

Ooh, if I was a Jags fan I'd be foaming at the mouth at the prospect of signing Tebow. Imagine Tebow competing and again losing to a worse QB than Sanchez. Lucky, lucky Jags fans.

Shhhh it was a poor argument
Anyways I don't get the hate for Tebow. I reckon he'll start for Jacksonville next season, I mean he isn't any worse than Gabbert is and I don't think they'll give Henne the starting job long term

It isnt hate for Tebow. Its realism ultimately. He can't make accurate throws, he doesn't read defenses and he takes about 2 seconds to release the ball.
Assuming Gabbert and Henne return, Tebow will be 3rd string with some gimmick plays

To be fair there are a lot of QB's out there who can't make accurate throws and can't read defenses.

I personally don't think he's as bad as you make out. Well he is at times, but last season at times he did show he can make the throws.
But I agree I don't think he'll be in the NFL for long as a QB. I dunno what will happen with him

The only time he made throws was when the Steelers put 9 men in the box and Demaryius Thomas destroyed Ike Taylor.
The Patriots took note and proceeded to destroy them.

Questions then for Pittsburgh as they miss the playoffs. Defense needs youthful playmakers and Mike Wallace set to walk in FA

Also yes Wallace is leaving but their new offense took what he did best and stopped him doing it.

I would agree with that. But I do think with the right offensive scheme (read option/wildcat) he could be effective

With a defense to keep the offense in games until late in the 4th maybe. Even then you could find a variety of read option QBs in the draft/UFA to do the same job. Hes a publicity tool who occasionally plays football.

On the Mike Wallace thing, wouldn't outright shock me if Haley got canned, pretty clear Ben doesn't like his offense and hes nullified Wallace's best attribute largely

Haley was a strange appointment at the time and has proved to be a strange appointment.
They have the number 1 defence in football (even if it doesn't create many turnovers it still gets off the field) so the offence is the problem. With the talent they have on offence they really shouldn't have one either

Be interesting to see which way the Chiefs go with the number 1 pick assuming they "clinch" it next week.
What about your Eagles GSC? It's been a long, long time since they've picked that high! Which way do you think they'll go? Be interesting to see who is making the pick too! What effect would a meaningless win over the Giants this weekend have on their draft position? Would hammering the final nail into the Giants' coffin be worthwhile?

Roseman wil be the GM. Doubt they'll take a QB unless they fall in love with one, will need CB, safety and wouldn't rule out a big WR. Trade down seems likely

Barkley over Smith? I could see the Chiefs making a move for a Alex Smith in free agency and spending the 1st pick elsewhere. Not a QB worthy of it really

After 5 teams routinely make/fall out of the playoffs from the previous year, only 3 will this season, as the Steelers and Saints are done, and the Giants. needs a miracle, to be replaced by the Colts, Seahawks and 1 left to be determined

A QB drafted by the Chiefs hasn't started and won a game for the Chiefs in like 20 years, they need to find their guy. Regardless of whether its Barkley or Smith (I'd back Barkley) the Chiefs are pretty nailed on to grab a QB.

Beyond that, the trading fun might start with Jacksonville. Though Gene Smith is the last guy invested in Gabbert left there and hes going to fired.

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread
Hmmm, might be tough to trade down from 4 in a year when the QB isn't knocking anyone's socks off. Still, you never know how desperate someone might become - Skins managed it a couple of years when they traded down from 8 so the Jags could pick Gabbert!
What's your thoughts on Foles? I thought he looked a good bit better last night than in his first game against the Skins. Two really bad mistakes at the end though...

Pretty much every pick bar 1 got traded from the top 10 last year haha. Rams got a 2nd to move from 5 to 15 or so which I'd be delighted with
On Foles:
Inconsistent mechanics is the main problem, he generally makes good reads and is comfortable on the rare occasion he gets a pocket. May top out at middle of the road. Either way in a draft which isnt loaded with QB talent, theres no harm giving him a year with a Matt Moore backup.

Re Skins/Cowboys - part of me can't wait while the other part is dreading it. Would just be so like the Redskins to raise our hopes and then let us down at the end. With two iffy defences involved, it's got shoot-out written all over it........ which prob means it'll be a low scoring bore!
