Randy Starks being franchised means, officially now, that OT Jake Long, WR Brian Hartline and CB Sean Smith will be free to hit the market.

Would be quite happy to see either Hartline or Smith in Cleveland, think both could be signed for cheaper than the bigger names this year.Olly wrote:Albert Breer @AlbertBreer

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread
I wouldn't be so sure, to me it seems like Flacco will be getting restructured within 3 years as apparently his 2016 cap hit would be $29million, unless there's a big increase in the cap he'll be close to a third of their salary bill.Number-25 wrote:GSC wrote:Flacco averages 100k more per year than Brees this wont alter Rodgers deal much
It might not, but it should. The problem here is that the Ravens' Superbowl win has skewed Flacco's value. We all know that had more to do with emotional drive the team got from wanting to win it for Ray than it had to do with Flacco. That's the screwed up NFL though - QBs get too much credit for these things. There is no debate about who is the better QB when talking about Rodgers and Flacco. It's not even close. Their wages should reflect that and if Rodgers' agent's opening line in the discussion is anything other than that then he needs to be sacked. Normally I,d agree that the next top QB up for a new deal would get a few dollars more than the last guy but this time it should be different. The Ravens will have annoyed a lot of teams with this deal - guaranteeing so much money to such an inconsistent player raises the bar for everyone.
@AlbertBreer
Flacco deal ... 2013: $29M signing bonus (fully guar), $1M base (fully guar); 2014 $15M option bonus (guar for inj), $6M base ...

Flacco deal cont ... 2015: $7M option bonus (guar for inj), $4M base; 2016: $18.2M base; 2017: $20.6M base; 2018: $20M base

So Dallas changes D, but then spends $10.6m to franchise a guy suited to play in the old D? Man, the Cowboys are amazingly consistent.
Sums it up.

Spencer's case also raises an interesting tag issue -- new DC Monte Kiffin plans to use him as a DE. Tag number for DEs is $11.175M.

He will only have been tagged so that the two parties have longer to come to a contract agreement without a team like the Eagles whispering in his ear.

Albert will play Guard or RT. Joeckel will be the #1 pick. I've had Reid for the last 12 years or so, he won't miss out on a LT.

It was an example of a team moving to 3-4 with a lot of cap space. Obviously rushing the passer isn't his strength, but he's a decent enough player.

In any case, Reid wants a dominant pass blocker at LT. Tra Thomas and Jason Peters. Brandon Albert is not close to that. Sliding him to Guard is a better move for him despite his preference for Tackle.

Only one I have a problem with is Spencer. Smacks of desperation.

Where do you guys foresee Darrelle Revis going? Still reckon he's a top 3 cornerback going into this season despite the ACL injury. Not a Pats fan (Skins supporter) but I believe New England is the ideal destination for him as their secondary really needs a leader to complete the package....

There's no chance in hell he is traded to the Pats. I would go on a personal mission to kill Woody Johnson if that happened.
Obviously the 49ers will be interested because they have few holes and a multitude of picks. Broncos are another team I can see taking a look at him. With Peyton Manning, they only have 2 or 3 years left to win the SB. Chris Harris is promising and Champ Bailey isn't quite finished yet, but Revis is a different breed. The Falcons need help in the secondary as Brent Grimes, Dunta Robinson and William Moore are all FA's. The Bucs are looking for a CB too, have plenty of cap room to pay him and have spent big to get players in the past (Vjax, Carl Nicks and Eric Wright).

Yeah no way Revis is traded to New England would be a riot haha.
Could walk at the end of his contract though, since there is a no franchise tag clause in his contract

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread
As others have said I don't see the Jets trading him to Patriots, could only happen if they were offering a crazy deal nobody else's offers were close to. Only the teams with a few holes will be interested as they'll have to give up a fair few picks to secure him, I imagine Denver and San Francisco are interested, maybe Houston or keeping him in New York but going to the Giants?ALPanorak wrote:Where do you guys foresee Darrelle Revis going? You could add the Dolphins on cap space but unlikely the Jets will want him to go to a divisional rival. The 49ers and Falcons seem like the teams most interested. You could also throw the Bengals name into the hat.GSC wrote:Throw in Indy as a contender. Happy to get aggressive with picks for CBs, 40m of cap room to play with.

I know the GM isn't going to want to trade to a divisional rival but the prospect of him leaving for nothing next year might force their hand...
They're reporting today that he is definitely going to be moved - I'm thinking the 49ners are going to come with a serious offer with all their draft picks to tempt the Jets. Jim Harbaugh knows this team is so close to being dominant.
How bad are these Jets going to be next year btw? This rebuilding job isn't like the one the Redskins have/had undertaken - there's no RG3 to build around, no offensive talent and a defensive front which is coming apart. Rex Ryan must be extremely worried...

There's still a lot of players to come in/out that it's too early to say. A decent draft (with two 1st rounders) and we could be an average team with an average QB again.
I don't think we'll have the number 1 pick in the 2014 draft like some have projected. Although it would be nice to draft a franchise QB in Teddy Bridgewater.

No probably nobody better than Revis in the first, especially not a CB, but they have more than one need on their team.

Via @mortreport: 49ers' interest in trading for Jets CB Darrelle Revis is ".001 on a scale of 1-10," a source said via text message.
There goes that plan then, well potentially, always a chance it's no true.

Woodson isnt particularly good anymore.
Nonetheless, I think he's more likely to wait and see what NE do with the secondary, if they don't get Reed thats the best fit. Which is probably why this report references the Jets and Dolphins
