Be a nice push for Atlanta, they can definitely make another play off run in 2013. They will have to contend with an all-round better New Orleans I'd wager though

Eh, they need more playmakers on defense.

You told me I couldn't give Smith to the Chiefs in fantasy because he wasn't a Reid kind of guy but I always knew the Chiefs would do what is right

I told you that because this is a really stupid deal for the Chiefs. Andy Reid loves to pass, trades what is almost a first rounder for a QB whose best utilised in a limited role.

Re: Ongoing NFL discussion thread
All over twiiter and confirmed now that the 2014 pick is a third rounder that can become a second based on incentives. Now means, with a third round compensatory pick, niners should have a 1st, two 2nd's and three 3rd's. And then we have way too many late round picks. Will be a lot of wheeling and dealing. Once again, Harbaalke shock me

Doubt they can afford to give him a long term deal. Going to have to pay Crabtree and Kaepernick in the near future.

Aldon Smith is also going to want to be paid like an elite pass rusher too. I just don't see how the 49ers can afford to pay Revis on a long term contract.

If Snyder was liked amongst his peers then the Redskins wouldn't be in the position that they find themselves in. He has nothing to lose by going to court. In fact, he only has stuff to gain - much needed kudos amongst Redskins fans and potentially, although unlikely, salary cap money. He couldn't be any less popular amongst the owners than he already is. The only thing Snyder has to lose from putting the rest of the NFL on the rack is a few dollars - the sort that would make us rich men but that he would find down the back of the sofa. He should pull the trigger on this. No question.

Significance of this is that it is a little higher than teams have (reportedly) expected, so we could see a little more cash splashed

Teams ask prospects unusual questions to see how they respond. Whether he was gay was likely irrelevant.

I feel like there should be some form of boundary, but also some of these guys are going to get multi-million dollar contracts and they don't want to hand them out to the wrong guy who could cause issues in the locker room, but it's sad that someones sexual preference could cause that issue.

We should use this to re-sign Landry. Safety will be another box ticked in the long list of offseason needs.

I presume that sort of questioning is unlawful in the US. Because of the way the draft/NFL works though doubt any players will be taking legal action against the teams.Derbyblue wrote:Don't think this has been talked about but seems to me like teams went a bit far during combine interviews: http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2013/feb/28/nfl-teams-asking-gay-questions-nick-kasa

@AdamSchefter
Ravens and Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco have agreed to deal, as @JayGlazer reported. Expected to make Flacco highest-paid QB in NFL history.
If that's true his agent is amazing.

To be precise, Joe Flacco's deal with Ravens will clock in at six years and $120.6 million, a bit more than Drew Brees' in almost every way.

And there are lots of QBs on deck for deals. Rodgers, Ryan and Stafford might get done this offseason, Dalton and Kaepernick next year.

The numbers involved in Rodgers' deal could be terrifying now! The Packers' FO guys must be sitting with their heads in their hands now that Mr Average has just been made the league's highest paid player. Aaron Rodgers is going to become a filthy rich man even by NFL standards.

GSC wrote:Flacco averages 100k more per year than Brees this wont alter Rodgers deal much
It might not, but it should. The problem here is that the Ravens' Superbowl win has skewed Flacco's value. We all know that had more to do with emotional drive the team got from wanting to win it for Ray than it had to do with Flacco. That's the screwed up NFL though - QBs get too much credit for these things. There is no debate about who is the better QB when talking about Rodgers and Flacco. It's not even close. Their wages should reflect that and if Rodgers' agent's opening line in the discussion is anything other than that then he needs to be sacked. Normally I,d agree that the next top QB up for a new deal would get a few dollars more than the last guy but this time it should be different. The Ravens will have annoyed a lot of teams with this deal - guaranteeing so much money to such an inconsistent player raises the bar for everyone.

This is a little bit of fun/ interest on Bleacher Report. It mashes together free agency with the draft and mocks a draft with each team picking up a free agent instead of a college player. Here is a link:-
